At Around 10:02, I have 2 different interpretations of the info given in the Video and after asking DESP41RR Himself, He Confirmed that Both assumptions are correct and for the question at 09:31, the Altered are Pure carnivores, still terrifying considering how much of a threat they are. Another theory I have is that the guy testing out the flashlight (Which I Forgor to mention in the Video, My Bad 💀) unintentionally lured a Altered just like the CARF stated in 07:30, leading to (What I can safely assume is) his death.
