    Does the wifi mesh work the same way? Put mesh in db box then connect using wire to d4 plug then in the room is another mesh ?.

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It works. Although it will also have a similar problem, the one in the db box will affect the signal.

    • @Kalimatullah_Yoh1-1.14
      @Kalimatullah_Yoh1-1.14 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ im not sure how it works. Maybe u can enlighten abit😅say If we take bto layout, hack the wall so bedroom and living become one, place the “additional” wifimesh there, so even though 1 mesh is placed in db, will the signal still get affected despite having that additional mesh? Also, i thought bto nowadays provides internet sockets in every room so any additional mesh can b connected via wires and therefore inrpove the signal?

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If the mesh node is in the db box, having another node in the bedroom/living works but if that's your entire network setup, then assuming you have the layout in the video, the master bedroom will likely suffer from bad wifi and your living room would have overlapping wifi ranges. Yes there are usually data points in each room. But you'd have to "feed" the data in using the data points in the db box, similar to how you've described, plug in d4 then d4 to another mesh node. If you want more rooms to have it, you'll need to ensure the mesh in the db box has enough ports to allow for d1, d2, d3 and so on for each room.

      @@SherBooga i just watched ur part 3- very informative 👍👍 so can we use switch to plug into mesh in db and frm the switch, connect wire to the d1 to d4 - will the rooms have better signals?.

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes you can! If you're considering this approach, I'd recommend OTP connect to mesh node in the db box. Mesh node connect to a switch, switch connect to D1 to D4. So now each of your rooms' data point would be ready to receive the signal and each room would be ready to attach a mesh node if you ever need one. Thanks for the compliments 😅

    I understand that buying good ethernet cables to connect from router to D1, D2 etc. is pointless if the cables connecting from db box to various rooms behind the walls are Cat 5 or something. Is there a way for us to find out what Cat cables are those behind the walls? Do we ask Town Council for that information?

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should be Cat 6 for the newer houses. You can get 2 network devices and test point to point to see if they support 10G if the house is older. Otherwise you'd probably have to ask HDB or BSC for that information.

    Hihi if I were to go for dual router for my 4rm bto, I subscribe to Singtel 2gbps with 1 ax5400 router at 38.90/mth then I go carousel buy 1 more ax5400 Singtel router, is this doable?

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga หลายเดือนก่อน

      Doable. But please check with the staff on what kind of setup you are looking for. 2 x 1 Gbps is 2 lines and will not be in the same network unless more configurations are done. If you're using SingTel then they should give you an ONR. Connect both the routers to ONR and you should be able to get a single network. I think there's a setup diagram on Singtel website to illustrate this

    Is it possible to branch 4 ethernet cable out from the ONT to D1, D2, D3, D4 and have 4 individual mesh routers link via wired to D1, D2, D3, D4 output?

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga หลายเดือนก่อน

      Best of my knowledge, not possible as the ONT will have to go through the modem and then the modem to the router as the first device. The router will then route the internet traffic to the rest of the home connections.

    Very useful video! Can i confirm my understanding (4-rm hdb bto): 1) If I opt for the mesh option and place the 1st mesh in the living room (not db box), does that mean the 2nd mesh can only be connected via wireless backhaul (in study room)? 2) Will wifi strength in Master bedroom be weak if 2nd mesh is connected via wireless overhaul? 3) If 1st mesh is inside db box per your video, will devices (TV, handphones) in living room and kitchen not receive enough wifi strength?

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. Yes, unless you've asked a contractor to line an Ethernet cable to the study room or back to the network patch panel which can link to the study. 2. Most of the time, the best wireless backhaul connection requires a line of sight from one node to another. The signal between the nodes will not be very good and thus, overall speed lowers. 3. The wifi strength will be slightly deteriorated. However, the router model that I have has enough range that even being in the db box, it provides enough wifi strength to reach my study. It's a calculated risk for my setup, but make sure you check the specs of the router you have.

      Modem usually don't give off wifi, unless it's the one by singtel where they combine modem and wireless router into a single device. Hi there, it's a 2 year old video but still very relevant for new homeowners like myself! I am getting a old 4 room resale house (~early 2000s flat) and the DB Box is in the bomb shelter which is situated in the kitchen, what would be the best mesh network configuration for someone who is planning to have a home office in bedroom 2 (just beside the master br), but also want consistent and strong wifi signal across all bedrooms + living room?

    • @SherBooga

      It's very hard to gauge without the actual home plans. But I'd guess to install the modem in the db box but try to connect it to a master router in bedroom 2. And then connect another mesh node in the living room. As for specific cabling connections, there are multiple ways to go about doing it but it depends on the house layout.

    Thank you for the video, it is very informative. If you put your main router in the DB Box, will the WIFI signal be degraded when the cupboard is closed? If i want to put my main mesh router in a central area of my apartment, does that mean that I need 2 ethernet ports at that location? One for WAN and one for Wired backhaul

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the signal will not be able to reach as far as it could have. Supposedly you have 2 mesh nodes, the main one will have to take in the WAN, and then 1 more for Ethernet backhaul, the other node will need to have 1 to accept the Ethernet.

    with a 3 part video, i dunno why i was expecting you to bust out a full on network rack LOL! but this is barely overkill, no router can cover 1 full house entirely. is the d1 to d6 a patch panel to the different rooms?

    • @SherBooga
      @SherBooga 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya the d1 to d6 is a patch panel to the rooms for all newer hdbs. As much as I would like to do a video one a full rack, the general public won't find it helpful.

      Hi, as you mentioned, it's been quite a while and our experiences might differ. We don't keep track of what they are doing now, but their carpentry for our house is pretty good. Be sure to read up on forums and other groups for the latest reviews as renovation companies usually have a lot of moving parts and experiences differ a lot in a short time

    Can I connect ONT to a switch in the dB box. The output of the switch will connect to each of the input of D1 to D3. Router will be place at the output of D1 which will provide network for TV and Wifi. Output of D2 and D3 will have wired network

    hey i recently faced an odd issue where my router RT-AX56U LED lights all are not turning on but according to the APP, the device is connected. I tried using the APP to force turn on the LED, turning on/off the router and even pressed the reset button, but the LED lights are still off. Anyone encounters this before? :/ have been using only for 7 months..

    • @SherBooga

      It is possible. But if you need to connect another device to the router from the bedroom, for example, a pc. it is not possible to do so unless you have a way to get the router in the living room to connect back to the db box and then to the bedroom pc. If you have no such requirement, then putting the router in the living room is no issue.

      Depends on the use case, if you're only doing basic web browsing and nothing heavy duty, then there is little upside of getting a 1Gbps plan in my opinion. I think there's an article on seedly that kinda explains it.
