Here's a novel idea, why doesn't Canon give their customers what they are asking for instead of telling us this is the camera you really want, that's how GM got their butts in trouble in the 70s and 80s, by not listening to their customer base.
Well if GM made this mistake in the 70-80's is it a "novel" idea? Just kidding. Canon did give customers what they want. Not everyone in every way. It is impossible to give everyone what they want is kinda my point. Technology will only let so much happen at the same time. I'm happy with them. All good. Thanks for the thoughts.
I agree with you 100%. My photography buddy started out with Canon then he switch to Sony while I'm still a Canon fan boy. No matter what camera brand you use ur going to get great pictures. All these hateful comments on any camera brand is just silly.
Love my canon gears but we need to have an open platform for lens
They will get there bud. It's business. I'd rather have one RF 24-70 or 24-105 2.8 than 3 knockoffs at the equal value personally. RF is amazing. But I get what you are getting at. All Good.
@@scottievee7467 I need smaller and lighter lens Prime
Stick with your canon gear. All gear now is top gear. Some may have a feature that one person may need and that fine. But no bad cameras anymore.
Agreed.
Theres a ton of people whining saying its dead on arrival, the R1 isnt meant for you or most of us, its for the sports professionals who work fast and know what there doing
Some truth to that too though. R1 has it's market. I'm not heading to Japan for the Olympics.
@@scottievee7467 i’ll head over to japan.. in 20ish years
I totally agree with you.
You gotta fix that sound bro.
The audio? Yea, not my strength. I have a bunch of recording options but still have trouble getting a good sound.
I don't understand at all and even I find it a bit strange to be grateful to a company that doesn't really respect its customers and thinks mostly about its profit? To be grateful because they still can't open the rf mount? To be grateful that they use the old digic x processor that was still on the 1dx iii? Canon probably thinks that customers will still buy and continues to work lazily and inefficiently to market products that competitors released 3-4 years ago. And I should be grateful to them for this and buy their not quite successful cameras? Technologies are developing and it is very natural and normal, what is the difference between Canon to be grateful that it lags behind the rest and forgive it?
I said, We "should" be grateful. You want more. All good. You have every right to think that.
Both amazing cameras. It’s just that price tag that is kinda crazy compared to competitors on the market. Also, having to invest in a new grip and new batteries just feels like a money grab. Value to dollar there is a lot to be puzzled about with the R5ii and that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a fantastic camera.
I get it. But it's new tech. The fan grip is brilliant. But not always necessary. I like that.
Agreed and as an owner of the R6 ii, R5, C70, and two R5 Cs, I wish that price point was more competitive and I wish these new cameras had things like shutter angle. I love the Canon image but for that price they can do better. Just my grievances with them.
@@Imaginelotus Yea. Shutter angle is ridiculous. I used to chuckle when FX3 shooters complained about not having it. I'm not laughing anymore. Odd.
@@scottievee7467 😂😂😂
Thanks for this video. I’m a Canon fanboy since I picked up my first one - the Canon TX nearly 50 years ago. When I got back into photography after a 35 year hiatus, I purchased the R6MkI. What a camera! I was immediately able to pick up where I left off. The fit, feel, ease of use, and IQ were next level. It just makes me wanna take photos! Nikon, at the time had nothing to compete. I also considered Sony, but I didn’t like the ergonomics nor the fit in hand. I now also own the R6MkII which improves on the original as the R5MkII represents a significant upgrade and tremendous value for money. I’m planning to pick one up in the fall. A lot of TH-camrs are poo-pooing the R1 and R5MkII (mostly the R1) questioning Canon’s decision making. They didn’t become #1 for nothing. Time will tell if the R1 - and to a lesser extent the R5MkII will be successful. No camera manufacturer is perfect. Not Sony. Not Nikon. Not even Hasselblad (slow AF in 2024? and asking $7500 body only? - yes I want one 😉). Yes Scottie, we should be grateful for the tech, quality of glass, and the sheer flexibility of today’s cameras. Thanks again for this video.
I hear great things about the R6II. Perfect all-a-rounder. I had the R6.
Don’t you know? Only Fuji has “color science “ film emulation. When Fuji users grow up, they become Nikon users. And then when they really know their stuff they use Leica. Amazing then that the unsophisticated plebs manage to make do with Canon and Sony - the 2 brands with the most sales by a country mile. I love my R7. It kills what I could do with my 1D3 and 7D. And this R5ii is worth dreaming about.
Yup.
Well said.
Thanks. Just a quick thought.
You are not the only one to be shocked by the hate since the R1 and R5II are out. But what is striking is that all this bs comes from America based reviewers - not at all from Australians or Asians or Europeans. And I think this is probably Sony trying to steal the American market from Canon. We can also say that the quality of information given by Canon at release was poor. For instance we learned yesterday that the sensors are 16EV+ dynamic range. What? 16EV+? Well done Canon! We will have wonderfully rich images! I paste the link here of a great UK broadcast where this is disclosed th-cam.com/users/liveeyfB8WY8RS4?si=1qRkJcbThazIYaEQ
Interesting point.
Love your honesty here. I face the same on my channel. The ones that are always complaining when you ask them to show their work they go silent. These people have nothing better to do in their life. There’s nothing that they will produce that’s worked while looking at regardless of the camera. This seems to be like a favorite pastime going after folks that are really trying to make a difference and truly bring incredible value to the folks that actually use the cameras. I know you don’t have a lot of subs but I honestly see you going very really appreciate you thank you.
Looking forward to the results people will get. That might change minds.
Getta grip! Lol 😂
yeah, I dont know if expressing gratitude to multibillion dollar companies is reasonable. the r1 is the only 24mp flagship. that is worthy of questioning. save gratitude for ur family
I have room for the most Gratitude for my family and God too. I don't run short.
Thank you for the video ! This is not just about canon... this is the 2024 society unfortunately .... Ive ordered the R1 to replace my 1DX III, I can't wait ! :)
Yea. A bit of truth to that.
exactly, i would be gratefull if i can at least upgrade from 650d to just a 2nd hand full frame dslr... im soo broke... hahaha...
Been there.
Well as a wildlife photographer (and landscape) there are several disappointments. I loved my 1DX 2 when it came since it had incredible autofocus. But the resolution is too low for distant animals. So what are the options. R5 but it has too low buffer and the auto focus is not good enough for animals. Then you look at Nikon and Sony. They have had better image quality for landscape and wildlife and has had that for a long time. 24MP cannot compete with 45MP when you need to crop. 45 cannot compare to 60 either.
What lens/glass set up are you using?
You are shocked? Do you think that there a global conspiracy against Canon and everyone is irrational apart from you? And why be grateful? People buy the cameras for top $, Canon doesn’t gift them.
Enjoy your Sony my friend.
I never had a Sony and probably never will have because I don’t enjoy using them. I have Fujifilm, Lumix and Nikon, had Canon in the past and will have probably again in the future. Your comment therefore is irrelevant.
I agree. We are so fortunate to live in an age with all the amazing cameras are available to us!
Agreed.
These are the same fanboys of other companies trashing anything another company puts out. Pay no attention to the noise. Canon will sell these cameras by the boat load. And when they are out of stock people will whine about that too. This is the same as what happened with the original R5 all over again. When the camera hits the streets the spec sheet critics will calm down.
Can't wait to see what people do with it.
Agree. People just focus on the negatives. So much entitlement.
Especially where wea re now. If you just started today with an R5II... you'd be so far ahead of the game.
Grateful for a $4300 price tag? Yep, I'll get right on that. But I think I may be more grateful of Nikon's Z6III at $2500, or the Lumix S5IIX at $2350 WITH a 20mm-60mm zoom AND a 50mm prime, or perhaps Sony has a new camera in the works that COULD be announced just before Aug. 20. in time to cancel preorders. All that said... It's great to see this camera out there... will keep an eye out for the reports, pros and cons, and real world performance... then when the price becomes reasonable.... maybe.
All good. It's not for you.
This is basically the same price as the R5 had when it was released. You have to take inflation into account.
@@goldfinch2283 $3899 when announced July 9, 2020. Global shutter will be the next big step up.
I think sensor speed improvements. They are so close to Global now.
@@scottievee7467 I know and that is great, but close in the case of 5R2 means about 160th flash duration or so? I meant global shutter with 2000 or more will make a big difference, it's like having a leaf shutter which I'm looking forward to.
Btw you can use the adapter with the in build filter switching + "old" lenses to get filters before the lens!
I just ordered the Meike version. I understand it has less colour shift than Canons version and is a lot More cost effective. Can’t wait for it to arrive so I can shoot wide open in bright light
I’m also a Canon shooter, since 1981. Thank you for this video as there seems to be a lot of people making videos about a camera they don’t have and probably will never have.
Oh I'm sure. They have a camera but prolly not a Canon. All Good.
The R1 is what it is. I'm neither excited or disappointed in it. My two complaints about the R5II is that the sensor read speed isn't where it should be and that they ditched the sensor shift super res for some AI fake super res. But the sensor read speed is the big one. Sony and Nikon both have a similar size (or larger) sensor and read faster than that. But I still preordered a 5II. I'll just have to work around the sensor read speed.
Sounds like the R1 is a good fit if you are concerned with sensor speed.
@@scottievee7467 That's where I'm torn, because I like to crop in at times too. I guess I could plop down $16k USD (R1+100-300 2.8) for a more optimum setup than just plopping down $4500 on R5II (70-200 I already own a 70-200). It's not like I was expecting 60 fps with unlimited buffer depth and 25 stops of dynamic range on a global shutter. I'm fine with all the other specs, I was just hoping for a sensor readout speed a little closer to what Nikon and Sony offered.
Hello Sctottie, thanks for your work from Germany. Your attitude to be thankful is really great - why not bring thankful for technical equipment as it can make us creative. Anyway - the R5ii has one caveat that worries me a bit: it does not have oversampled 4k 60p. The C400 does have it but does not have autofocus in 4k 120p - but ok that´s life.
Wir mussen immer das gute suchen, das in allem verborgen ist.
@@scottievee7467 WOW what a great answer Scottie. You beam me up to a higher level!
You should always be unhappy with intentional crippling and market segmentation within a company. Otherwise, you’re just a sucker and target.
People want good but only cost 50.00, it’s not going to happen EVEN JESUS COME TWICE!!!
Firstly all these people who claim the R1 is a failure, a disappointment don't seem to understand Canon do not design their flagship for us they do it for the media and sport professionals for which it is going to be immensely popular. The R5ii is astounding but oh it doesn't do this or that, the Z8 is better, the A1 is better, these are all great cameras but the features the R5ii offers are best for me.
I fully agree.
😮
Thank you for making this video. A lot of popular TH-camrs lost my respect for their complaints and negative reviews of cameras that aren’t even on the market yet. The truth is Canon is not creating products for TH-cam’s idea of what cameras and engineering should be. They are making cameras for professionals who need those features. I actually feel sorry for all camera manufacturers who seem to have some of the most entitled customers in the market. Maybe Canon has a better idea about technology than the average customer, since that’s literally their profession. Have a great one and good luck with your channel.
I do that too but I realize my confirmation bias.
Canon cameras never failed me :)
As an R5C owner I agree the R5II is an impressive stills focused hybrid camera but an R5CII it definitely is not.
Clog2 would have kept me from selling mine. But I understand the sensor would not allow that. As explained by Ollie Kenchington.
@@scottievee7467 Yeah I know. The rumours pre- release were saying that basically the R5II is the upgrade from the R5C (ie that an R5CII won't be needed) but that is definitely not the case. I hope Canon doesn't forget about the R5C line and kills it like it did the EOS M cameras!
TH-cam pushed you to the #1 spot in my feed today. Canons have awesome AF and color science and the best ergonomics in the industry. Subbed!
Thanks Bud!
I agree. The new R5 mk2 literally addresses everything I was hoping for after having the original R5 since launch. I also shoot Sony and simply appreciate how much all these brands have improved their cameras. They are all quite impressive.
Right!
You give a very reasonable and well-thought perspective. Thank you.
Thanks.
most people who complain don't use Canon so it's just noise.
Ain't that the truth.
Well said. Amen!

Ha. Hey bud. To be honest this was just a shot set up in another spot I have. I was just playing with lights/looks. I needed something to talk about. So the C400 my favorite new topic it is...
Hi Scottie! Am I crazy for wanting to sell my 1 year old FX9 in order to get a Canon C400? The C400 does everything my FX9 does and more. All this while being smaller, lighter, and way less power hungry. I never use my FX9 for live work where all the SDI ports might come in handy. Mainly I do corporate videos and commercials. My main issue with the FX9 is that I must crop in on the sensor to get slowmo, and once I do that I lose the amazing autofocus. With that said the camera looses its main point by being full frame for me. This also means that I have to sell my two lenses, Sigma 24-70 2.8 and Sigma 35mm 1.2 Art. But what can you do. Am I totally out of my mind?
I'm sure Sony shooters don't want to see your comments here. :D. Although your comments are honest and correct. I think the C400 competes with the Burano more than any other camera in the Sony line-up (minus Venus). But Sony shooters are loyal. So are Canon people. One thing Sony had over Canon was the Codecs/Looks were more universal with all the cameras from low-end to top of the line. Makes for easier post. Not having Clog2 for all Canon's got some users annoyed. But recently I saw a Sony Shooter try to get a matching look with a Burano and an FX9. IT was a tall order. They looked way off. For me, the C400 will be my do all for a long time. I love the Canon look. Come September you might wanna rent the C400 for a day or 2.
@@scottievee7467 hey thanks for your reply! But with C400 Canon has solved all the codecs and Clog2 is there right? I can’t see what my FX9 does that the C400 can’t do. It’s so crazy for such a small package and low price IMO.
@@sa.t.2507 The only cinema line Canon camera that doesn't have Clog2 is the Canon R5c. I have one. A little annoying I can't cut with my C70's or with this new C400 unless I shot in Clog3 or WDR. @@scottievee7467 thanks man, I truly appreciate your reply. If I’m not misstanken the C400 offers full frame even in the 4K mode when not shooting in raw, right? There’ s no crop going on, I would just get a really sharp 4K image since it’s using the full 6K sensor?

Hello Scottie , tell me in your opinion, I now have a Canon C300 Mark III, should I change it to this new Canon C400 camera? or not? And why?
C300 Mark III, That's a great camera. I'd never advise someone about what is right for them. I shoot with C70's. It's the same sensor as yours. I don't need to chase the camera trends. For me, it's the lens collection I have. All but one is RF. And that triple ISO could be real handy for the work I do. I can sell 2 cameras to offset the cost. You should probably rent it first Felix. You'd be familiar with the operating system. Only you would know if it were right for you, probably that same day.
I bought the luts off of your recommendation, but im running into a problem. When I use the conversion luts they make my image look way too saturated and contrasty. Ive tried tweaking the luts but I can't ever get the image that's advertised. Im using a canon r5 in clog 3.
I shoot on Canon C70's (Clog2) and the R5C (Clog3). R5 is not a cinema camera and I can't speak from a place of knowledge here? I know in my usage the LUTs are fantastic. I use them daily and saturation is not an issue? Sorry. I shot this with R5c using Clog3. Not the best work but it was something I shot in a day. th-cam.com/video/_DaK74dbxl4/w-d-xo.html
