Pulling the engine from my lowrider F150
มุมมอง 2543 ปีที่แล้ว
I bought this truck last year for $1000 and have been daily driving it for a couple months now. [would be impossible to drive in the winter with no rear brakes and a welded diff.. and no heat!] but I've decided I want more power, also my buddy is looking for a 302 for his 1986 mustang so it all works out. so I'm pulling this engine out to make room for a new one! next video you can see the tear...

77 Dodge Break in Analysis
มุมมอง 2553 ปีที่แล้ว
we check in on how the break in of the new cam went and a little update on where the truck is at
Does your 77 have the Chrysler “Lean Burn” computer? I’m looking at a 77 W200 and just learned about this. It would be a deal-breaker for me.
351 no power model. Just listen to this clown who is fascinated by his junk motor.
lol it deserves a whipple charger man American 👍🏽 lol
Great video man my 1992 F150 302 would melt the tires off back
rear posi?
Nice clean engine for what you paid!
Awesome video. I’m hoping to also upgrade my 302 to a 351 Windsor. FYI: 250,000 Kim’s equal about 155,340 miles.
Like that engine room
When removing a stuck fastener, you can keep the entire engine stand from running away from you by standing on it as you apply the leverage. Should a cylinder head really give you a struggle, spin the block so the deck is parallel to the ground--when it's at an angle, it's easier for the head to want to slide off and meet your feet. If its an aluminum head, consider taking out the rocker arms so all valves are closed, getting a cylinder to TDC and use a leakdown test fitting to pump the cylinder full of air. great video!
Time for the rebuild!
I know it's an old video, but, what's with the allthread with a nut in some spots instead of a regular headed bolt? I first noticed them in my bronco's Windsor. Always wondered.
Where can I get this engine, I have a perfect 1974 d100 dodge just needs an engine any help I'm a rookie industrial millwight and haven't tackled a car yet
This is just a small block mopar 360, they were used in cars, trucks and vans in the 70s-90s
With all that piston, you should spring for a set of the stock length forged rods from Scat. You get a much better cap-bolt vs through bolt design and the strength that comes with it. They really are pretty cheap, as forged rods go. Almost as cheap as new ARP bolts and re-sizing stock rods. (I'm building a 1994 5.0 and can't believe how cheap these parts are. The reviews reflect that they aren't a waste of money.)
Check out my newest video, you’ll see plans changed
Now I’d like to hear it explode in several places
What kind of intake will you be using ? Or you upgrading the distributor/coil ? We're those file fit rings ?
Not too sure on the intake yet, probly a single plane, most likely run a pertronics distributor as my buddy put one is his car and loves it. And yes they are file fit rings
@@huculak302 I used a Weiland stealth dual plane and it worked great for a street application with a 750cfm quick fuel carburetor
I rebuilt my 351w four years ago, put GT40 heads back on flat tappet motor with a comp cam for towing with headers . It was bored .40 over.Put a 3.90 gear in her . She had a lot more towing capabilities after the makeover. These engines are so easy to work on. I'd love to do another. That motor looked way better than mine which had a 107,000 miles but she still ran ok. Good luck with your makeover.
Well get with it get er done
Nick has his new 528 HEMI build on the dyno for a few pulls while he tunes it. You wont believe the numbers the HEMI is making. !
upgrade to L19 or ARP2000 bolts have block thats broke because of 8740 bolts in my eagle 6.200 rods at 6500 on N/A engine just spend the extra and rods with hold up much more.
Me too brother, I love new parts. It's like Christmas getting to open them up. Clean and new and some shiny. Lol. I am thinking about building a turbo 351w for my 03'Crown Vic. My cousin gave me his 85' F-250 351w. I know I can get the roller cam conversion for a few hundred. Comes with the spider and dog bones and shorter roller lifters. The link bar conversion roller lifters are almost 800 bucks. I know their good but man that's up their. I just need to find out if the spider rollers are strong enough for boost. Then again I might just stroke it to a 408. I'm still researching which way I should go. I can boost this 4.6l 2v as well and have less of a headache doing the swap. No worries brother. My wife is wanting me to start a channel of me building this 03'Crown Vic. There is not alot of videos that go into depth building these Vics.
I’m in the process of building a turbo 351 for a shortbed pick up. I went with aftermarket rods as well. Almost as cheap as reworking stock rods.
Yeah there not a terrible price for what your getting
Just noticed you’ve got a D200.. I wasn’t going to mention the fact my 351 is going in my dodge D100. It’s currently got a 289 with a ZF trans and 8.8 rear
@@jasonmorgan336 that sound pretty cool, I’ve got a big block in the pasture I’d like to build for my d200 someday, only a 383 but they have some zip
SO glad to see this video!. A friend of mine asked me to rebuild his 351w, and honestly I have NEVER touched a Ford engine. HOWEVER!, I've built a few Sbc 350s, and this looks like an almost Identical process, with nearly identical architecture. Thanks for sharing this.
The vacuum line for the PCV valve should be connected to the front of the carb and the brake booster line needs manifold vacuum.
Yawn zzzzzzzz
Any upates on this stuff?
Recently ordered some parts for the 351 not sure when there showing up yet, hopefully I’ll have another video out in January
@huculak302 great, looking forward to it.
Those tapered ring compressors work great. It's totally worth it.
Awesome work, been procrastinating pulling the 351 out my wrecked f150
Im a 49 year old sbf man .. i build em one after the other for fun … ive done this since 1988 im gonna hang around here because its also fun to watch somebody else build sbf engines … have dun with it and ill have fun vicariously thru you ole buddy !!!!
I have always upgraded my oil pump drive rod in all my engines. Your the first one i have seen who has showed that.
I thought why not it was 25 bucks
@@huculak302 safe cheap insurance and is so much bigger than the stock.
You have to get GT40 heads! please dont waste time and money machinging those E7 heads. get a set on ebay fresh off a motor 200-300 bucks and spend your machining money on those heads. I left my E7 heads in an abandoned chicken barn where they belong!
Around hear GT40 heads are worth there weight in gold, I’ve had a few things change over time thinking about it and I’m prolly going to buy aluminum heads, they’re lighter, flow better and aren’t that much more than GT40s for what I can find. Most people selling them local to me want 600 dollars and they still need to be redone!
Look at a late 80's shroud and measure for fit. Some spacers may be needed to get the fan properly located. Good Luck
I’ll give it a try 👍
I wish I had a time machine to go to spring so I could see a update on the truck
You got a good buy on that engine! 👍
AWESOME...DID MINE IN 1985 STILL GOING STRONG...MOPAR 4 EVER.
A 351 w with big money thrown at it made 748 horsepower. I don't remember the torque. All motor.
That would be nice but I don’t have big money sadly, a turbo will have to do!
Which one is it a 302 or a 351?Now. I see what you have going on. Get your health straightened out and don't rush it I am 53 and I had pushed my self all my life and now I am going to spend my supposed best part of my life half crippled. So my opinion to you is do anything but rush your health because you have one time around and if you wear out or abuse your joints or something like that to be in a hurry don't. The older I get the worse health care gets.
These are good, strong engines that respond well to heads, cam, and intake swaps.
Good luck in school. I enjoyed your video, I was curious what your studying. It's Beneficial have a degree.°
I actually finished that year of school (3rd year) in February and hopefully going back soon to complete it, I’m in trade school for automotive service tech or as some people call it “mechanic”
keep up the good work
great video
A 351 is not a small block it is the smallest big block ford made in the day
The 351 Windsor, which is what I have, is a small block. The 302 and 351 Windsor are the exact same block for the most part other than taller deck height for more stroke, bigger main journals and a few other things. But ford also made the 351 modified and 351 Cleveland which is kinda up for debate if they are small or big block for some people, I’ve personally had a 351 modified and I will say it was much larger than a 351 Windsor
@@huculak302 I'm 52 I grew up on the 302 351 Windsor and Cleveland I was brought up on the concept that the 351 Cleveland was a big block on the basis that it was eventually turned into the 351 modified then the 400 but when they went to the 351 modified they also changed the bellowing bolt pattern to what is considered the big block
@@paullowery4593 yes the Cleveland and modified are very closely related, they are both what I would consider a big block, from what I understand the 351 and 400 modified use the same block with a few little changes because of the displacement difference and the 400 is a big block so I’d say so is the 351 modified, but the 351 Windsor is a small block platform based on the same block as the 302
@@huculak302 yes yes finally someone with knowledge
Do you want a 351 Cleveland 4 barrel block crank and heads
Neat, lets see your wife tear down her clothes next
I have the same engine in my 79' B300... an LA360... I plan on rebuilding it some time over the next couple of years if it lasts that long... Nice build!
When you start back to work on the 351, flip the engine upside down. You can guide the cam from the inside while pushing with the other. Minimum chances of scarring a new bearing. I’m loving the content.
Top notch editing
Lite hone and new rings and bearings?
We actually ended up getting another block, so it got punched out .030 over to fit the pistons, new rings bearings, gaskets, new ford racing cam stock heads for now. 4bbl intake and comp cams valve train
Ok so im watching your video n i enjoy watching the young generation wrench on old v8 motors .. you said your not profesionals i get that .. let this ild guy give you some advice so you can get better .. your already an asset to the hot rod comunity … ok so when you take an oul pan off you should take it off with the engine upside right .. that way any metal shavings junk or whatever may be in the oil pan will stay in the oil pan … when you flip the engine upside down if theres any junk in the oilpan your letting it fall into the crank n rods wich could be a bad thing .. lucky for you yours didnt have alot of junk in it so ur good … i enjoy your videos … btw im 49 years old and have ben racing the 302 and 351 w motors for decades i build all my own engines … im not here to critize im here to teach/help ..keep up the good work brother !!!!
Ok so what i have learned is when ford built their engines …. Lets say in your case yours is a 1980 .. they may have built 1.5 million heads in 1979 and when it came to 1980 they just kept using the 1979 heads until they ran out .. same way with the timing cover it may have ben left over from the previous year and have the previous year date code on it or they may have ran out early and marked E1 on them at the end of the year for the next model year …your intake is off a 83 mustang those don’t make alot of ho but it will get u down the road .. you said the rods said D1 if im not mistaking .. the reason for that is is the rods was such a good rods they continued using the same mold for years .. ive pulled 1995 mustang motors apart and the rods had a C8 casting number from 1968 ..idk if i remember a 1971 casting number on the rods before .. im about to go to my garage n get busy im curious ive got several sets of mustang rods laying around im gonna look at em n see what mine say …
