We did get four additional congressional seats on the Democratic side. However, if gerrymandering gets in the way next cycle it could be a problem. again couple points to be made and I live in one of the reddest districts in the state, congress has shot consumers in the foot repeatedly by cutting very valuable programs to help better themselves like the enip-expanded nutrition information program run by Cooperative Extension which is federal state and local participation far as money goes and funding it. And another huge program was the work to ride program which operated from the mid-nineties at least 2 2012 when the Tea Party took over. a most valuable program which instead of continuing to help people without cars needing a ride to work and helping them pull themselves up by the bootstraps, they cut the bootstraps! And then there was a disaster Clunkers for change which benefited a lot of upper-middle-class when perfectly good cars ended up being crushed for for brand new cars and those cars could have been made sure they were roadworthy given 2 low income workers. another travesty. Another valuable program Republicans love to hate and it is definitely partisan because they'd rather give tax cuts to the wealthy rather than helping Empower low income workers. And housing is another debacle we have here in North Carolina as well as around the country we have so much substandard housing again thanks to the Republican legislature in North Carolina they forced the repeal of a very important strong ordinance we had in the City of Morganton to assure housing properties were safe and up to code and that ordinance was forced repeal in 2011. Legislators wanted to be sure counties or Municipal governments could not be stronger than the state law as far as I can see these legislators chose to line their pockets with money from Realtors and property managers or owners rather than do what is for the highest good for the residence. especially in rental properties, tenants have no recourse except move which was not possible during covid. And we definitely do need more Democrats in the state legislature- no if ands or buts but the people out here vote against their own best interests. it looks like we have a green light now for Medicaid expansion after six years of stalling Again by the Republicans. However it took the former Republican governor of Ohio John Kasich to come here and give the house speaker and Senate pro-temp president Tim Moore and Phil Burger respectively a heads up about the economic value a Medicaid expansion.
