Let's make one thing clear...The Beatles were "really famous" long before they recorded this song in 1967. From Feb 1964 when they had world wide fame they put out shorter songs as required by radio stations who said no longer than 3 minutes, wanted to keep their advertising time up. All dog groomers lol, MUST take chronological journey, they invented the long haired look parents and authorities,saved rock and roll from sure "death on the vine."They stopped touring in 1966 and went into the studio to make more complicated music and really were already at it by the time they did the Rubber Soul Album in 1965.

Drugs yes, but the Beatles had stopped touring, and starting pushing hard in the studio, trying all kind of new things. the middle part was obviously written by Paul who sings it. Ringo was allowed to cut loose on the drums.

This is one of my top 10 for creativity! I had every Beatle's LP produced. Lost them all in flood in '81. One of the saddest days for my music collection. Mind you, I'm also the girl who shoved Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water album (that I saved to buy) between the fireplace mantle and wall so my older sister didn't take it to school! It remains there to this day. Slipped right in there without a trace. The house was a hundred years old then. Still standing, as is the fireplace! Haha! What this song meant to me when I was 21 isn't the same as listening at 72. I have listened for over 50 years, but I am still not tired of it.

Sgt Pepper is NOT a concert album really. The idea behind it was that the Beatles were tired of the insane fame. So they decided to make an album as if they were a different (fictional) band...called Sgt Pepper's lonely hearts club band. (They also stopped actually performing concerts live...deciding to only make studio albums. That is why this album was so different & creative)
