The Expansion of the Port of Takoradi
The Port of Takoradi, Ghana’s premier commercial Port, was opened in 1928 to facilitate international trade. The cargo that comes in through it feeds many multi-national trade ecosystems which are vital to the economies of other nations within the Sub-Saharan region.
Ibistek Limited a wholly owned Ghanaian company in a concession agreement with Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has accepted and proposed to expand the port of Takoradi by developing the entire terminal that will handle the New Post-Panamax vessels, with a maximum length-0verall of 360m, and a maximum draught of 16m.
The completion of the project is expected to create a competitive environment within the maritime sector for maritime trade through Ghana as competition triggers improved service levels and lowers tariffs to the advantage of the Ghanaian economy. The expansion of the port will aid in making Ghana’s economy work again.
