Mountain Bikers should UNICYCLE - Here's why | Share this with a mountain biker
I see a lot of bikers on the trails - which makes sense. They're MOUNTAIN BIKE trails. I also see some hikers, which also is understandable.
What I'd like to see, is mountain unicycles out there - and I think it might be better overall for the trail-user community. Here are my arguments on why YOU should take up unicycling. For both the overall benefit of the community, trail maintenance, and actually, potentially your own mountain biking.
Let me know what you thought of this video. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the benefits and drawbacks of unicycling on mountain biking trails.
This video took me about 8 months to compile and complete. I hope you enjoy!

It's taken me three weeks to build and ride this but I really think it was worth it. I'm in the process of building a Mountain Unicycle trail in my front & backyards and this is the first feature on it. I think I went a little over the top - both in my ambition and during my falls. I'm really excited about how this turned out - it's really scary and really rewarding which is the best was to pus...

GROW or Grand Rapids One Wheelers - is a small organization teaching people how to unicycle - something they potentially never thought they could do. Here's an event in August with Beyond the City, Grand Rapids. These kids were incredibly impressive and made it fairly far within the two hours we were out there. Did I mention that it rained on us for a good 45 minutes? It was either brutally hot...
My wife taught HERSELF how to unicycle
มุมมอง 224หลายเดือนก่อน
I've recently been on a kick of trying to teach people how to unicycle. And the first victim probably should be Kelly. I arbitrarily decided that going 10 feet would be a decent threshold to reach before being able to say you're "able to unicycle". So that was our goal - to go 10 feet. We're using a 20-inch unicycle. Those 20 inches signifies the diameter of the wheel. To calculate the perimete...

Unicycling the Outer Banks of North Carolina - Hot & Humid Morning

It's become a little bit of a tradition to make a scenic video of a vacation destination on a unicycle. This year's video had to be the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Although this location is a yearly tradition within my wife's family - it was such a great spot nonetheless. I could not overstate how hot and humid it was though. Not only was my shirt drenched, my pants were as well. I'm surpris...

It's been a little over a year since I first took up mountain unicycling. Now when I say "mountain unicycling", I mean whatever I can find around the Chicagoland area for anything close to "mountains". But either way, taking a unicycle on a recreational mountain biking trail is no joke and requires considerable thought and planning. But it's nice to know that I ONLY have to plan and think about...

    • @HoboDan
      @HoboDan 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I believe I explain in the video but you’ll have one hand with your index finger and your thumb with a loose grip toward the top and your second hand (also index and thumb) will be a tight grip about 2-4 inches down from your first hand. A loose grip means some air can pass through where you’re holding when you blow and a tight grip means no air can pass through where you’re holding when you blow. I hope that makes sense!

    My favorite thing so far is all of the progress I have made. Ok, admittedly not as fast as some other, more talented, younger person might have made, but it is all mine. I definitely think that mountain bikers could benefit from another benefit, better balance front to back. This should help them from wasting energy from imbalance. Interested if this is real. I don’t know any mountain unicyclers here, so I need to convince the local bike store owner to ride with me, or that is what somebody told me should be my plan. I don’t know. I don’t think he needs better balance front to back though, so I need a better plan. I may try to somehow get him watching your channel!

      Progress should be celebrated! There’s always going to be someone better but that doesn’t take away from your improvements! Hey yeah, send them this video or something you think they’d connect with! I love biking and to have the ability to challenge myself on a unicycle too has had such an effect on me as a person. It’s such a blast 😁. I bet you can convince him. He can advocate for it in your community and create more customers 🤣😉

    I have a bike because I broke my foot falling off my unicycle. Also it helps me to get to work much faster than my unicycle and my bike is fixed gear so it's still a challenge to ride. Also like you said riding unicycle helps you to be a better bicyclist

    • @HoboDan
      @HoboDan 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m sorry to hear you broke your foot! That’s rough… yeah a fixed gear would be a good rehab when you get to that point (if you’re not in that stage of recovery already). I’m unsure if riding a unicycle helps you be a better bicyclist but it does remind you of the luxuries you do have when biking. Which I found to make biking, and unicycling, both more enjoyable honestly

    Thanks for the tips. They're helpful for beginners like me! I wonder, though, if there's some other/additional explanation for the wiggle. If you hold the unicycle with you hand, turn the wheel two or three times, and let it go, it will continue to wiggle, right? • @HoboDan
      @HoboDan 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@yanickgenest1324 depending on what you’d like to do. 27.5 is slightly more agile and maneuverable compared to 29 but 29 you can pick up more speed and can roll over small obstacles better. The good news is you probably can’t go wrong. If you have the option of trying them out through a friend then definitely take advantage of that but maybe even consider what you normally ride. If you’re a distance rider and rider a 32/36” wheel, you might be more comparable transitioning to a 29” but otherwise a 27.5” might be a better transition. But again, you probably can’t go wrong😀
