Debdencycle
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ก.พ. 2016
Debdencycle was created by me, Brian Lindsell, welcome to my TH-cam channel. I am always looking for ways to bring Debdencycle to the notice of a wider public. Here you will find cycling videos and things completely unrelated to cycling. Every view of every video brings more eyes to the Debdencycle cause. So what is it that I/we do?
The village of Debden has a military base, formerly RAF Debden, now known as Carver Barracks. This is the permanent home of 33/101 Engineering Regiments. Serving and veteran troops are supported via a registered charity, The Felix Fund. Everything we do supports the fund. Our main event is a local, bi-annual cycle ride open to all.
See Debdencycle.co.uk or Facebook, Debdencycle Lindsell for more information. thank you.

If you're after an MGF that will run and run and has had everything done, this is the one for you.
I've tinkered with it for 8 years, improving and repairing it.
In addition to the video I should add that I've changed the oil and filter every 6k miles and it gets those grease nippes on the sunframes greased every two years. You know, the ones most owners don't even know about.
It has a relatively new battery.
Wiper motor and linkage replaced with newer TF unit spring 2021.
Clutch slave cylinder a couple of years ago.
Coil packs replaced.
Loads more.

Excellent video; many thanks as I have now removed the rear spheres and the front offside sphere. However what I need is a similar video for the front nearside sphere as there's a great big servo in the way - how do I get to the top nuts on the plate that holds the sphere in position?
Panic over. I removed the nearside front sphere from the wheel arch - I didn't have to worry about the servo. All I had to do with the pipe was ignore the joint on the back of the sphere; I separated the pipe by the schrader valve instead and took it all out through the wheel arch. Then I removed the pipe from the sphere on the work bench. Easy.
I found this useful, just replaced all 4 corners, I didn't lift inspection cover, I had no arch liners at rear, and managed to bend the metal work enough to reach top bolts. And front liners I cut 2 neat cuts and lifted it up. By far the worse side for both spheres was the passenger side, poor access rear, and even harder front as brake servo in way, took me an hour to undo sphere pipe nut!! Ebay pump worth it's weight in gold, I was very surprised with minimal tools and some time and effort this is a DIY job can be done at home, with trolley jack and axle stands. Saved me hundreds.
cheers mate, great video..people always bang on about how alfa's are supposedly difficult to work on...this video proves otherwise...could do this whole job in a couple of hours if taking your time. thanks again
Great m8 have you got the part number on the 82 degrees thermo thank you tim
great work. i am not going to do it myself on drive way, but now i know what is there and how it works. if you have access to a large jack to move the car 2 meters up life will be easier.
Dude you are a legend this is going to help me out a bit on my desperate attempt to save a brick that didnt even roll when i got it i need to get a boot panel also as you can see the petrol tank thrugh the top
Does your car have a PRT as was only a clear valve you took out ? Can you run the PRT and the 82 with the jiggle valve ? Great vid btw 👍
Excellent video thank you for posting. John is indeed a great guy and gentleman too! The Benetton B190 is a stunning looking car from an era where there were so many beautiful cars racing.
Great help. Thank you.
Man i really need a link or a serial number of that thermostat
Can you give me link for 82 d thermostat
I wonder if filling in the numbers on the gearshift with white enamel paint might set the tone off better?
Hi Brian I'd like you to help me with an ODB apparel alfa romeo compliance issue. Indeed, I own a 166 V6 from April 2000 ( bought in Switzerland). I have a motor issue, for which I have the indicator in the panel of the car lightened. Looks to me that it is an injector related issue (by the weird behavior of the car...). I've bought different aftermarket ODB devices in order to read the issue, but I find no compliant apparel with my car protocols.... Would you know by any chance if there is an ODB device available in the market that might fit my car? Obviously, I'd like to avoid buying an hyper expensive thing. Thanks a lot in advance and congrats for the nice and clear videos you perform. Cheers. Luis
Sorry Luis but that's not an area that I have any knowledge. I'm a spanner guy. Good luck, sorry again that I can't help and thank you for the kind words about my videos.
@@debdencycle5237 thanks a lot anyway Brian. Cheers
Oh wow, what a fantastic video. I can see you did this a few years ago..... please come back and do more, so good! Your Busso engine looks immaculate, clearly extremely well cared for, love the detailing as well. It is a real pleasure to watch a really competent person at work and your tips are so useful. More videos please

Just changing the thermostat housing on my MGF Trophy 160 as it was leaking. I don’t know how people replace the thermostat without removing the inlet manifold. Getting to the thermostat was straightforward but putting things back together is a nightmare, especially the 2 bolts on the steel coolant pipe bracket on the back of the engine… 😢
Great video! I have to do it on my 'F' and it's reassuring to see what you're in for beforehand.
Going a bit beyond this, why not the PRT mod ? Some have it at the front or rear of the stainless pipes. I've just changed mine and also doing HGF so as result thinking to reduce future shock, but improve access - surely better to leave the straight through flow that you had and more the PRT into the system elsewhere where it may be easier to change if it fails ?
Hey, I recently became an owner of an MGF, thank You for filming your repairs. How well does the Hood (soft top) deal without colder parts of the year? Did you consider a hardtop? I see that you fitted the 57i K&N induction kit on your car. Could you share how you figured out the cold air intake? I see that you do not have the standard air box. The MGF I bought came with MGTF airbox without the resonator and hence I was wondering how to get around the cold air intake issue. So for I have been purchasing parts from Rimmer Bros., if you can recommend any other shop, maybe with upragdes not only stock parts it would be great. Thank You in advance, best regards
I've done 2 thermostats with everything in place ofc with a ramp in a workshop. But there's no point taking all that off. Also you can get the housing and thermostat for £20 at euro car parts
So glad I found this vid as this route is on my planned long distance bikepacking trip from Norfolk to Weston Super Mare. This section is day 1 of 6 and I'm now going to re-plan it and get to Cambridge by road instead. Not ideal as I'm avoiding roads where at all possible, but I can't be dealing with all of that on day 1. Many thanks👍
great route from ely to cambridge using the NCN network - goes through Wicken Fen. Lots of off road and quiet drove roads
@@tiglen1 Thx for the info. Looking forward to the trip
I used to live in the village of Debden also i learned to fly at RAF Debden with the 614 gliding school.
Many thanks for this helpful video, may i ask what type of pump you used , and the fluid regards
Hi. It's basically a grease gun with ungraded seals and I refill with hydrogas fluid which is widely available.
Great video, very helpful, thanks for shareing.
I have found this video very helpful 😁 I am about to tackle a subframe swap at the front of my MGF. Fortunately, I don't think I need to disconnect the pipes to the front spheres, but I will need to depressurise the system. Having never worked on hydragas before, this video has just given me enough insight to know what to expect. Thanks for sharing
Just wanted to say thanks for the vid. It gave me the confidence to change the sparks and coil packs on my 2004 166 3.2 which is basically the same but with the ecu and wiring to contend with. The rough idle is gone. Really appreciate it. Thanks from 🇨🇭
Super detailing on that engine. Thanks for the vid. Happy (Busso) days!
great video and your encouragement at the end just motivated me to try and work on my own mgf. Just out of curiousity, did you by chance joined/went to the mgf 25th(+1) anniversary event?
You tell it,but don’t show it.mmmmmmm
Look out for "Part 2" coming shortly. Yes the varnish did give the structure stability but the surface became tacky with the heat inside the car on hot days. I racked my brain and came up with another, far better solution.
Where is part 2?
It would be great to show the entire process, including lifting the soft top.
What a great video....very inspiring. Keep up the good work mate. Cheers
electrical tape on the extension... my first spark plug change took 3 days and one inoperable vehicle during those 3 days. I HATED myself. I actually undid the spark plug with the extension; ripped the rubber inside out and used a magnet to hold the SP in untill it's threaded correctly. electrical tape on the extension...
Seen a few of your videos, like em, like your no nonsense common sense approach.............great work and you ave taught me a bit.thanks
Fantastic video watched it a few times now. I feel as if I'm with you on the tour..
Thanks for that Ken, really kind of you. Summer 2021 (covid allowing) I'll be cycling the length of France. St Malo to Bilbao. Video to follow so look out for that one!
Super thanks 👍
Hello, this video is great :) I love your "you can do it" encouragement! I'd like to do this on my MGF, what is the part number for the Borg and Beck thermostat you used? Also how has it been since doing this? Thanks!
Thanks Louis. Runs like a dream. I have an 82C thermostat fir sale on Ebay ay the moment. Lindselltrees1969 is my Ebay name (don't ask!). Will have a look in my garage and see what else I have on the bench. Will message again tomorrow.
@@debdencycle5237 thank you, I'm afraid I can't find you on eBay...
What a sight 👍🏻👏🏻
Brilliant video, planning something similar next Easter with my son. Excellent advice all the way through and it looked fun
I’ve been trying to buy the tool you used to release the clips but wanted to ask you what it’s called please.
Dave, they're called, Hose Clamp Pliers. All the usual places sell them, Halfords, Laser Tools etc.
@@debdencycle5237 thank you; on it 👍
You are a champion sir!
Well put together video - no BS and a bit of prep with the screw driver cut out the crud. Just tells us just what we need to know.
Great vid Tnx man
I watched the vid while riding my exercise bike in my study in Australia. I loved the scenery but would have enjoyed it as normal speed. Also the music was a bit like a science fiction movie soundtrack. I think natural sounds would be better of music such as In the Fen Country by Vaughan Williams.
thx for this it was actually a really good video VERY informative and helfull!!
Great advice 👌
how can i buy the 82 deg one pls i live in nz
I am in NZ you can get it here qedmotorsport.co.uk/product/thermostat-82-78/
There is a decent route available via Wicken Fen which is mostly traffic free and meets back up with the Cam for the last few miles
End of Wicken Fen when you hit the main road turn left and you will eventually come across a bridge over the Cam, wouldn't recommend it as field rides along the river from there either to Ely or back to Cambridge.
What a great video.Nothing better than riding with one of your boys.Did you manage the 2019 return trip?If so where i is the video?
Rachael, thanks for the kind words. We did manage to complete the trip the following year. We rode the same route, had five punctures between us (which was bizarre) but no mechanical issues. We also had torrential rain some days but we made it. If you go to our Facebook page you can see the daily updates, you'll need to scroll back to July 2019. The page is: Debdencycle Lindsell I didn't make a video of the trip as it was a repeat (all bar the finish) of this trip. There is another cycle adventure video on here that I've posted. Northern Europe, that's a great trip to do. Also, I should be doing a Caledonian canal and isle of Skye trip in late summer 2020 so look out for that. Then they'll be the 2021 ride, Cambridge to Bilbai!

great video, you don't really need to drill a hole for the top bolt as an open end spanner can fit in there & you need to undo it from the inside of the engine bay where the nut is with your socket. The shop pump system has a vaccum pump on it so if you got that done later on, you could remove the air from the system. Altering the system so it is not connected together is not great. as it was designed so when you hit a bump at the front it pre- pressurized the rear ready for the bump.
