Unnecessarily confusing. Why in God's name did you have to have TWO external drives named the same?? Sorry pal. You are flimsy as a techie.

I believe that the drive has to be reinitialized once the board is removed.

Very good detailed video. Was in a pinch to find a quick reference video while upgrading my Mac Mini 2014 last night and found your video to be very helpful. Been playing with the Macs for hours the last few weeks and learned something new from your video on using the startup disk feature. Very useful.

I recently made an installer usb drive its 64gb. It has 4 partition on it with 4 different macOS. It took me a while to make it, I’m new to the macOS environment. I wanted to make a backup of my usb to store away Incase of corruption that may happen down the road. How would I copy the whole usb to another usb of the same size? Thank you.

it's not a good idea to have the source and target hard disks all the same name.

Worked perfect on my 2015 MacBook Pro I used a ssd stick idk if that’s the correct name for it but I followed the same steps

Great video, thanks for uploading. I was able to extract the hard drive from its case/shell. But how do I open up the hard drive itself? I think the heads are stuck so I need to rotate the disk and move the heads back to the "parked" position.

And to add to that, I have the latest sync module. I have the latest outdoor cameras from blank and I had acquired a couple of cameras for my friend never used the XT two cameras that I had got from him and they work just fine. We’re very compatible.

Very, very nice. No need for any 3rd party apps. Just needed to boot into IOS Recovery. In my case, the internal and external HDD and SSD all showed the same silver metal icon. However, if you clicked on those icons you could read the sizes of the drives. I was retiring an original 2011 time frame HDD with a current SSD. Too, I was required to upgrade my MacBook Pro from El Capitan to Catalina so that my IOS.16.1 would continue to be recognized by my ancient MacBook. Another note, if you pay attention in the video, it was said that the cloning could take anywhere from minutes to hours. My half full 320GB HDD took about 1 hour and 50 minutes (110 minutes total) to complete the cloning. Seemed like a long time, but it is installed, boots, and all is working well. As a previous poster said, you did need to unmount both drives at the beginning. On the back end, I only mounted the new SSD. When I went to the Startup Disk routine, it only showed 1 drive to select for the system boot. Hope this might help someone going forward. Thanks to Never Stop Tech.

I was following another tutorial because want upgrade from HD to an SSD. But after the restoration process and try to initialize the system using the SSD, get the white screen with ? folder. So, the difference (and what I think gona be the game changer) is the final step when you set the drive wanted to use as the System default starter. Trying this right now, hope works for me this time. Thank you!!!

When you said the data source needed to be unmounted as well, the video showed that it's still mounted then you proceeded with restoring to the external hard drive. Which one is correct?

2022 now, but exactly what I needed. I had the tool set with the guitar picks, but I needed to take it apart without breaking any tabs. My house caught on fire and I wanted to save my external drive hopefully by cleaning the soot and smoke from it. With blessings from above I was able to clean my computer and it is running (I don't know how long it will last, but happy it is still running) I just needed to save my WD Easystore drive for back up and now maybe I have. Big Thank you.😃

Cause my usb flash drive doesnt has led.

Except for the inability to reuse the housings. Kind of kills the appeal. I love how they look on a shelf but its pointless over a drive rack if you can't upgrade them.
