why does 2(3k+1) turn into 2t???
Here, t=3k+1 so it becomes 2t. Whenever any number multiplies by 2 it becomes even..

I didn't understand why you take n=2k ?
n = 2k stands for some even integer (because for any integer k if it is multiplied by two it is even), if you need to assume n as an odd number then it is 2k + 1 (because an even integer + 1 is odd).
