#hydrangea #garden #gardening #summer #nature how are my hydrangeas doing? deer ate my Bigleaf hydrangeas which planted in the ground. I propagated some last year in flower pots, and they are blooming almost to the end. But now the panicled hydrangeas begins the show. The vanilla strawberry grows very fast, even more fast than limelight. The quick fire fab blooms early though.

    The deer were not the ones who ate your marigolds. Those would be the rabbits LOL. Deer don’t like plants that have a lot of fragrance. That’s why you’ll see them avoid mint and other herbs that WE like for that scent and flavor. They detest it. Rabbits on the other hand don’t have that issue and go CRAZY for marigolds. They eat them like candy LOL. Best way to stop that? Invite birds of prey to your property like owls. Install an owl box in one of the mature trees on your property and I promise you you’ll notice a reduction in rabbit pressure.

    • @PresentGarden
      @PresentGarden 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It makes sense. I have planted marigolds for many years and they never been touched! Very surprised to see the marigold flowers are gone and some leaves! Now have the rabbits🐇 issue to deal with. Probably an Owl box! Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge here! Thanks.🙏

      @@PresentGarden oh yeah rabbits literally multiply like crazy so once you have a breeding pair in your property you'll have a whole litter of bunnies soon LOL. I live in the woods so naturally I don't have to worry about it. One year I had a massive issue with the rabbits then the next year I had 30 bard owl living on my property then a year later only 5-6 of them since the prey reduced. It's funny how nature had it's own way of balancing itself out. But once we show up we throw that whole balance off entirely lmfao

    Tragopogon dubius (commonly known as yellow salsify, western salsify, western goat's-beard, wild oysterplant, yellow goat's beard, goat's beard, goatsbeard, common salsify, and salsify) is a widespread and common plant native to southern and central Europe and western Asia. It grows well in warm, protected spaces with moist soil. When cooked, the stems taste like oysters.

    Finally! It’s burdock! Arctium is a genus of biennial plants commonly known as burdock, family Asteraceae. Native to Europe and Asia, several species have been widely introduced worldwide. Burdock's clinging properties, in addition to providing an excellent mechanism for seed dispersal, led to the invention of the hook and loop fastener.

    Finally got the name! The plant name: flame azalea The ball thing: azalea gall

  • @PresentGarden
    @PresentGarden หลายเดือนก่อน

    azalea gall This is a common disease caused by the fungus Exobasidium japonicum that disfigures, but does not kill, rhododendrons including azaleas. It spreads by airborne spores. Azalea gall is a very distinctive and curious-looking disease; Galls varying in size from that of a pea to a small plum form on the leaves or flowers. The leaf or flower involved is practically replaced by the fleshy irregular gall. Galls are at first pale green, or very rarely reddish. One of the best ways to prevent leaf gall is to ensure that your Azalea plants are spaced out and properly pruned each year. However, if leaf gall has already begun to appear on your Azaleas, fungicide treatments are the best way to remove existing spores and decrease further development. The growth deformities these diseases cause are unsightly and sometimes grotesque, but they are not particularly serious, except on very susceptible cultivars. In fact, the fleshy galls on azaleas often are referred to as “pinkster apples” and are edible!

    Kerria japonica, commonly known as Japanese kerria or Japanese rose,is a deciduous, yellow-flowering shrub in the rose family (Rosaceae), native to China, Japan and Korea. It is the only species in the genus Kerria. In the wild, it grows in thickets on mountain slopes. Japanese kerria has been used for medicine and is also planted in gardens. A double-flowered cultivar, K. japonica 'Pleniflora', is commonly called bachelor's buttons.

    Finally got the name: Lewisia. Lewisia is a plant genus, named for the American explorer Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809) who encountered the species in 1806. The native habitat of Lewisia species is rocky ground and cliffs in western North America. Native Americans ate the roots, which have also been used to treat sore throats. The Lewisia is also used by many caregivers to help those who are in the last stages of dying. Approaching death, the body becomes small and fragile, yet the soul widens toward spiritual immensity. Lewisia helps one to surrender, and to feel the physical breath releasing itself to the Spirit Self.

    This time the google Lens did a great job! Houstonia caerulea, commonly known as azure bluet, Quaker ladies, or bluets, is a perennial species in the family Rubiaceae. It is native to eastern Canada (Ontario to Newfoundland) and the eastern United States (Maine to Wisconsin, south to Florida and Louisiana, with scattered populations in Oklahoma). It is found in a variety of habitats such as cliffs, alpine zones, forests, meadows and shores of rivers or lakes.

    Finally got the name from my local nursery today. Obedient plant. The name is so strange, but the plant is so beautiful! Obedient plants send up tall (3-5 foot) stalks, then cover the stalks with a runway of pink or purple flowers, each the perfect-sized cup for a pollinator to dive into. Obedient Plants have a reputation for being invasive and taking over gardens, but taking care to divide or remove shoots in the spring can keep them in check. They love sun, flower for a month in the summer, and are very drought tolerant.

      According your clue the soil, I searched, can’t believe what I get, never thought of this: The color change is due to changes in the pH of the cell sap, and, like some hydrangeas, plants growing in more acidic soils will have flowers of a deeper shade of blue.
