The shining light (Acts 8:4–25)
The light is shining, breaking through barriers. Philip arrives in Samaria. He has there a mighty ministry, marked by miracles, and many heed him and are baptised. Among them we see a marvellous profession, that of Simon the sorcerer. When the apostles arrive, they validate the work, laying on hands so that the precious gift of the Spirit comes upon the converts in a distinct way. When Simon sees this he makes a wicked demand, to which Peter responds with a plain rebuke, for Simon's heart is not right. Simon's ambivalent response makes us feel the weight of the moment, but none of this can stop the spreading word, as the gospel continues to spread through Samaria.

True masculinity #1 (1 Kings 2:2; 1 Corinthians 16:13)
มุมมอง 3512 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
As we continue to look at life under God, we need to make sure that we embrace biblical conceptions of basic categories and identities. That means we need to understand true, scriptural masculinity, the distinctive manliness of the man of God. We must assess the wrong questions that are asked, consider the ugly truth we need to face, remember the perfect example God has given, embrace the helpf...
Lessons to learn (Acts 1-8)
มุมมอง 15วันที่ผ่านมา
In the opening chapters of Acts the infant church faces a number of assaults which Satan intends to bring down the kingdom of God. In each case, in God's mercy, the church is guided and directed in a right response, keeping the new covenant community faithful, pure, united, and focused. Persecution is addressed by prayerful faithfulness, corruption by principled faithfulness, division by practi...
The bounds of life (Psalm 139:13-16)
มุมมอง 29วันที่ผ่านมา
As we return to our study of life under God, we are reminded of our need to grasp the dignity and value of life made in God's image. In a society that craves life for some but seems to little regard for the life of others, the Christian understands that God is sovereign over the beginning, course, and ending of the life of each of his creatures, as well as exercising a distinctive care over his...
Heaven’s favour (Psalm 106:4-5)
มุมมอง 2314 วันที่ผ่านมา
This prayer is both individual and congregational, neglecting neither the one nor the many. It begins with a profound conception of one heart of love, God's particular favour toward his chosen ones. It rises into two pleas of need, the desires for God to remember me, to visit me, to show his favour toward me. It expands into three desires for grace, the fruits of God's favour: sharing in the pr...
A new you-pursuit (2 Corinthians 5:17)
มุมมอง 1814 วันที่ผ่านมา
We have seen the root of the new life, union with Jesus Christ, dying to sin and being made alive to God. We have seen the fruit of the new life, the sea-change that follows in every part of our humanity, considering the transformation that follows on from regeneration. Now we consider the pursuit of the new life, for this life is for living, more merely for pondering and discussing. Every sinn...
Scattered (Acts 8:1-4)
มุมมอง 33หลายเดือนก่อน
There are times when everything seems to be going wrong. It may seem to be that way at the beginning of Acts 8: a time of great persecution, of great scattering, of great lamentation, and great havoc. And yet, in God's wisdom, here is also a great spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The plea (Psalm 109:26)
มุมมอง 31หลายเดือนก่อน
How do we respond when we are weak and our foes are strong? This psalm, full of distress and comfort, offers a plea wide in range and rich in blessing. The plea is made simply, suitably and sufficiently. The plea is directed to a faithful God. The plea is measured by nothing less than the mercy, the covenant love, of the God of heaven. The plea should be improved, by our learning from it, prayi...
A new you-fruit (3) (2 Corinthians 5:17)
มุมมอง 16หลายเดือนก่อน
When the Holy Spirit makes someone a new creation in Christ, then the old is gone and gone for good, and everything becomes and remains wonderfully new. That newness is both fundamental and incremental, for a new heart means a new life. There is new faith, new hope, and new love. From the new heart flows an entirely different way of life, no longer dominated by sin and death: there are new appe...
Abraham’s boast (Romans 4:1-3)
มุมมอง 25หลายเดือนก่อน
How can someone be right in the sight of God? When answering that question in the letter to the Romans, Paul draws attention to Abraham. "What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? 'Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him fo...
A true witness (Acts 7:54-60)
มุมมอง 24หลายเดือนก่อน
Stephen has preached his last sermon. This one provokes not repentance but unbridled rage. A thread of violent hatred runs through the narrative, against the backdrop of which we see Stephen's glorious vision, clear testimony, gracious spirit, and peaceful death. In the background stands another young man, Saul of Tarsus, upon whom Stephen's witness will have a profound testimony.

Salvation’s hope (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10)
มุมมอง 202 หลายเดือนก่อน
The true Christian wears the helmet of salvation (alongside the breastplaate of faith and love) as he walks soberly through this world, living in the light. Paul explains something of what that means, drawing our attention to a mercy most marvellous-that God has not appointed his people for wrath, but to obtain salvation. He identifies a sacrifice most precious, for this salvation is accomplish...
Temples and traitors (Acts 7:44-54)
มุมมอง 392 หลายเดือนก่อน
As Stephen reaches the conclusion of his seminal sermon, he completes his survey of Israel's history and then brings it powerfully into the present. He reminds his congregation of God's presence with them in a tent, divine faithfulness and mercy revealed in the wilderness and in the conquest of the Promised Land, despite Israel's sins. He reminds them that, when the temple was built with men's ...

Glad the Lord blessed it to you!
What a wonderful message! Thank you for sharing this and so many other helpful, inspiring talks!
We are delighted that the Lord blessed this and other sermons to your soul.
when was luke 24:46 written in the OT?
In this case it is less direct quotation and more by way of allusion, not least to other passages already quoted by Luke in connection with these truths. These include: Psalm 118:22; Isaiah 53:12; Psalm 31:5; Psalm 22:7, 18; and, Psalm 69:21. To these could be added other references that Luke makes to the Old Testament in the book of the Acts, including Psalm 2:1-2, Isaiah 53:7-8, Psalm 16:8-11, and Isaiah 55:3. This is not exclusive list, but shows Luke's awareness of the Old Testament witness to Jesus' death and resurrection, and the preaching of the good news. Other Old Testament passages would testify the same thing. We hope that this is helpful.
Thank you for this sermon! What a merciful and unfathomably gracious God we have. Thanks for displaying His riches.
We are glad it was a blessing to you.
Good message
Thanks so much Pastor for this study! This really spoke to me, and has encouraged me to seek Him and have fear. I feel so flippant at times. I need that relationship!
We are delighted that this was a blessing to you. May the Lord prosper your soul in your walk with him!
Hello. I’m wondering if you can answer these two questions. Was Jesus referring to unbelievers and believers and also when it says cut in two, is that talking about eternal state in hell? Or earthly punishment? Thank you.
Good questions. The second first: the fact that this is the explanation of a parable helps us to understand that these are illustrative or symbolic, so it is a fearful picture of the punishment which comes when the Judge returns (which means that we must reckon with the fact that the reality is far worse than the symbol which represents it-we are meant to be shocked and grieved by this imagery). This helps us to understand the spiritual state of the people represented in the parable: if someone is allotted a portion with the unbelievers, it shows that this person does not belong with the faithful. Although they may appear to be or claim to be a servant, their disobedience to the Master and abuse of the servants reveal that they do not belong to the kingdom of God. Yet there is differentiation-the more knowledge we have of God's will, the greater our responsibility and culpability if we neglect and disobey that will. Remember that when interpreting a parable we must be careful not to press a complete and absolute parallel for every element of the imagery, but rather look for a main point or thrust. We hope that this is helpful.
Lovely word.
Glad that the Lord blessed it to you.
Amen. Wonderful truth
We are glad that it was blessed by God to your soul.

Thank you for your encouragement.
Excellent, thank you
Thank you!
God's greatest blessings to you, Pastor Jeremy. You preach a solid Gospel.
This is an extremely unsatisfactory answer
I echo the same comment as NipkowDisk. You are a preacher of sound doctrine: I thank you. My soul is edified, my focus clarified, my hope justified, and my joy increased. Good bless you and all who hear the precious Word of God.
We are glad to be of service, and grateful to know that the Lord blessed his Word to your soul.
Thank you once again, Pastor Jeremy, for your faithful preaching of God's Word- this message was a real spiritual fluoroscope for me.
Thank you for your very gracious encouragement.
Another great message, Pastor Jeremy. We are much accursed with busyness and manifold distractions in the 21st century, and we as Christians do need to be reminded that this world is not our home and are pilgrims passing through, so to speak, set apart to serve the true living God. May our Lord continue to richly bless you.
Thank you.
Thank you, Pastor Jeremy, for your faithful, non-sugar-coated preaching of God's Word. The Lord Jesus Christ is our ONLY hope. PERIOD.
Grateful to know it was God's means of blessing you.
@@maidenbowerchurch Indeed! It is my prayer that you continue to preach the Gospel with full force, as you have been in my opinion. Greatly encouraging.
Thankyou Jeremy for this direct message.
Glad you appreciated it.
Amen.
Thank you.
Another piercing message. Thank you!!
We trust it was a blessing. Thank you.
I really enjoy Pastor Jeremy's preaching; truly Christ-centered and, shall I say, Puritan-esque. He is not at all afraid to preach on hell, and he properly balances the promises in God's Word with the warnings in His Word. Sobering and encouraging messages.
Thank you!
A powerful gospel message, no pulled punches no twisting scripture but pure simple biblical truth. Thank you Jeremy
Thank you!
