HOW TO GROOM & DEMAT A JERSEY WOOLY RABBIT
This video shows how to groom and demat a Jersey Wooly rabbit. Our model is Mushroom, a rescue rabbit. The video was made to show his newly adopted bunny mum how to care for his long hair. Kim Cooney at The Rabbit Sanctuary demonstrates how to use gentle pressure and pushing motions to steady the bunny on the table for grooming. She uses vet fleece / vet bedding as the soft pad to groom on. Kim shows us how to pull apart a mat in the fur without hurting the bunny. She also demonstrates her use of gentle pushing and pressure on various parts of the rabbit to keep him steady on the grooming table.
If you have any questions please ask in the comments below and Kim will respond.

    Hi! Im adopting two rescue bunnies soon who are bonded but still show a little chasing behaviour. I want to strengthen their bond when they arrive home with me to capitalise on the truly neutral territory, but i also think they'll be stressed for the first day or so. Can I work with them like this day 1 or is it still better to wait until theyve settled more?

    My very first bun looked so much like this. I didn't know much back then, and no one told me about grooming him. At 8 months, he developed a giant hairball that had to be surgically removed. Just out of college, I spent every penny I had on that surgery and he survived 8 more years. I never regretted my decision and after that I did groom close to every day!

    I know I am very late to this but, I'm wanting to buy a rabbit soon and I don't really know anything about them. Can you perhaps post a video about all the daily foods a rabbit can eat and cannot eat? The unhealthy symptons, how much I should feed it everyday and when, everything I need to get? Also quick question, can the rabbit eat any grass? like for example the grass in my yard, or do I have to wash the grass otherwise it's considered unhealthy or even dangerous?

    • @lorinagore
      @lorinagore 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for this comment. This is actually commercial grade vinyl - and is not usually cheap flooring by any means (I only got it cheaply as it was an offcut piece). This flooring is used by vet clinics, hospitals, and schools. I agree it's important to avoid cheap vinyl due to toxicity risk, and always use a quality, commercial grade flooring vinyl. 😊

      When I'm bonding, I'm always with the rabbits. I don't leave them unsupervised until they are bonded, as a fight can set you back by quite a bit and make the process take even longer.

    This is animal abuse. You are forcing nervous prey animals to basically freeze and do as you want because that is their natural instinct. This is horrible. If this is how you treat all your “bonded” pairs I’d hate to see the incidents that occur after the bunnies have been given to people who actually care about them and they get comfortable, then inevitably argue with eachother. This. Is. Wrong.

    Do you think having them in adjacent cages prior to the bathroom sessions helped? My girl isn’t cage ever , when we have to she gets furious. I’m concerned about how to prepare her and our house (which is so small) so closing off spaces is kind hard.

    • @lorinagore
      @lorinagore 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sometimes having your new bunny too close to your exisiting bunny can make them resentful and more territorial of the 'intruder' rabbit. We usually recommend housing in completely separate areas until bonded to prevent this happening. Having said that, some bunnies will become desensitised to each other by being housed next to each other, so it's not black and white. In your case, I would allow your girl to remain free roam but put your new bunny in an area she doesn't normally access.

Also, just to mention, he's pretty comfortable around me but still doesnt let me pick him up

    • @lorinagore
      @lorinagore 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is your male bunny desexed? It's incredibly important to do that, before bonding rabbits. Hormones will interfere with the process and make it harder to bond. If he has been neutered for at least 6 to 8 weeks you can introduce a younger female, but be prepared to separate and rebond if the relationship changes once she starts to become hormonal (when she's ready to be desexed, at around 6 months).

    • @lorinagore

      Yes, the principal is the same. Desensitisation in a safe environment. It can be very challenging bonding 3 though - sometimes one bunny becomes a 'spare wheel' so to speak, and a bit left out by the other two.
