With thanks to Adeyto, Bogdan Kurilko, Iogkf Ua and BlakeBros for their permission to use material from their respective channels in the making of this short-video. After reading some of the comments, I wish to elaborate the following: Okinawan karate (Before it was introduced to Japan) had a lot of joint-locks throws, take-downs and ground-fighting (Though not as extensive as Modern Jujitsu), ...

    I have trained Shotokan, Shorinji ryu as far as karate and other grappling styles, and now Isshin ryu from the Arcenio Advincula lineage, and this looks very interesting. I love the internal close in power and body conditioning, it looks really effective. Although I have heard that Isshin Ryu, Goju Ryu and Uechi Ryu are sister styles so that makes sense.

    What are sparring like in goju ryu karate? does everyone do irikumi go or is there a school that does other types of sparring? And are there any goju ryu schools that don't do sparring at all?

    Hola! Para situaciones reales el Karate no es efectivo, al contrario, los tiempos de reacción son rigídos. He practicado muchos estilos y hablado con grandes Maestros en este largo camino y gracias a Dios sobre todo. Si lo que buscan es efectividad no recomiendo estilos tan utópicos. Salu2!

    Back in the 1990's and early 2000s, they used to beat us with escrima sticks and baseball bats while we did Sanchin Kata. I studied Isshinryu which is a combinaiton of Gojuryu and Shorinryu.

    I really like how this demonstrates the breadth of technique found in all traditional karate. Most karate styles incorporate ne waza and throws, it's just that they are learned later in the curriculum. Karate starts with punch, kick, block and moves to throws and locks; ju jutsu just goes in the opposite direction. The Okinawan founder of the style I practice, who was also a sandan in judo, said either way is legitimate, he just felt it was easier for students to learn the less technical defences first, and the technical locks and throws later.

    • @matthews1082
      @matthews1082 ปีที่แล้ว

      Goju Ryu was the Original full contact. Kyokushin Kai was originally a branch of Goju-kai. Oyama's innovation was to remove head-strikes, which made it doable. The Goju-kai bare-knuckle kumite was/still is brutal, and limited to some dojos only (eg, South Africa)....

    Use what works for you. This is a good foundation . Had to use this twice in my life to defend myself 2 against one, one of my attackers still lives in a neck brace. This form works. I warned them, being of small stature everyone thought i was easy prey. I took judo, karate, Tai Chi, and Goju , It brings peace knowing yourself. The power these older men generate is otherworldly .

      @@wolfs1bane I know this may come as a surprise to you, but there are quite a few past and current UFC champions who had a very orthodox karate background - I find it odd that people who have never really fought professionally - like you for example - and people who hardly trained really hard (that's probably you as well) see fit to pass comments on things you know nothing about.

    Alot of students are never shown how to apply Gojo Ryu. They just mindlessly train katas and 3 point no contact matches at the kiddie tourney. Goju Ryu is effective when applied properly the students need to learn to drop the forms and practice fluid movements. Muscle memory should lead students to an understanding, I think too many arent given the opportunity to beat the shit out of one another as if it's meant for churning 200$ a month out of upper middle class parents or something. Oh wait.....that's whatbits been diminished to. If you are a GojubRyu student do yourself a favor and get into MMA ....eventually it will click , just about the time you start feeling comfortable with an opponent. You will see alot of similar concepts. Particularly with the softer open hand techniques.
