FREQUENCY ALIGNMENT (VERY IMPORTANT) EDUCATIONAL FOR ALL.
Hi stu I have a RCI 2950 needs the same work done to it's the one you just did.
I own 5 Cobra 29 LTD’s. Three I bought new in the box, and two of those boxes have never been opened. One more I bought on eBay. It has been well used. It was sold as-is or for “parts” because the seller had no way to power it on for test. It was kinda messed up but I replaced the final and then aligned it and it works good. I use it on my bench. The 5th one was given to me to use as “parts”. It has been modified to beat hell. Average power on any one given channel is about a half watt, and PEP is almost 6 watts…..spread out over most of the entire CB band. I keep it as something funny to show friends. Alas, I work only on my own radios….I don’t have the patience or overall knowledge Stu has. I could NEVER work for the average ham or CB’er! I’d rip my friggen hair out!
Keep working at it & you will progress in the hobby my friend. Don't feel that you're not going anywhere as it sounds like you're doing a great job. The best part about the hobby is learning something new all the time & ways to improve your skill set. Call me when you can if you have any questions & I will gladly help you out with any info etc. Again, keep up the good work & your shop will grow sir! 315-945-1600
I just hooked up a new 29 with a Wilson LiL Will antenna. I've actually got good swr with it. But it seems like it's not receiving or getting out. I have to drive out the the truck stop to get a replie and it's still mostly static. If I touch the magnet mount with my hand all static goes away. It's in a Subaru Outback.
Make sure your antenna is grounded good. You might want to get a Sirio 5000 magnet mount antenna from Amazon as they are way better than the LIL WIL antennas which don't get out very far.
Hi Stu, I picked up an old Hygain VIII base it had been sitting for a decade(s) it worked but channel selector very scratchy so I Detoxit all the controls. I think the microphone plug on radio itself I]got damaged or something now when I turn on radio the volume is much lower and when I key the microphone it just does a dead carrier and radio gets louder with no wing on meter? any idea on what I can do on my own?
It sounds like you might have a problem with your microphone circuit. Maybe audio chip if no audio passing through based on what you're describing to me. Call me when you can, thanks 315-945-1600
What do they come out of the box at as far as PEP goes?
4 key 6-8 swing, after alignment & tuning, you can obtain better performance
👍👍💪
Those 29 's LTD classics are proven radios
Dang Stu up early this morning I see, man I still never got that 29 from the raffle the weather must be holding up the postal service bad cause I ordered a package beginning of January and still never received it ,it is also coming by USPS they need to reboot their service big time, well off to work finally this weather in Louisiana is freezing this morning and Sunday in the mid 70's have a great day.

A power microphone just picks up your voice from a farther distance in always thought that was the main purpose of a power microphone versus non power like comes with radio when new. Unless it adds modulation in there also. I suppose this is a question. Purpose of power mic so u dont have to talk so close to it otherwise.
The purpose of a power microphone is to get your audio louder than a stock mic can do.
bet u coul.d repair and troubleshoot any kind of solid state device like stereos tvs etc. i think electronics repair would be a good business. not real laborous i do plumbing and u always gotta buy things and wait on your money. u have to carry insurance etc. alot of redtape sort of.
I'm sure I could but I like to stick with what I'm familiar with.
I’m with ya. So far seems easy.
Simple repair for this job
When I had my shop, I seen so much trash work. Wannabe techs. Then they'd expect me to repair for free or cheap. LOL.....
It happens, unfortunately.
Get him a bag of beef nibbles😊. Do you have a certain brand you use for your components?
Depends on what part I'm looking for if I don't have any in stock. I use various companies for parts ect.
That’s the big brother of my Eagle 2000’s!! Very cool Stu!! Nice job on the Eagle 5000….Excellent!🌪️⚡️🌪️⚡️
Thanks! They are both great radios for sure.
stu your going to either go in the junk business or work on radios dam what a day hope your week gets better
Thanks, I will keep my fingers crossed for a good week.
is this were we are to sell these type radios thats hacked up sell them on e bay i could not do that would just donate to you for parts
donkey stomper amps posted and amp that was like this radio he ended up gutting it out and built a new amp inside to match the out side and he said he was going to stop working on items like that this reminded me of this radio
parts
Customer agreed to keep this for parts & he bought a used one from me that is good working condition.
👍👍💪
That is what i want for a base
GREAT BASE FOR SURE
Stu ... have you ever tried any of the HG 2SC1969s? I hear people say that they are pretty good.
I have tried them & they do work good but I try to look for companies that have good reliable parts such as RF parts, Digi Key, Mouser etc.
i have a 148gtl with sideband. i seen u get 30 watts out of another cobra cb. 30 watts versus 4 watts must make a difference. i was on interstate taking to some people and at first they heard me but once i got farthger down the road one of vthem said they couldnt hear me anyhow i plan to send u the radio it just puts out the standard 4 watts.
Aligning & tuning is what make the radio perform better but most importantly make sure you have a good antenna & a good low SWR as that is 90% of your setup. Send your radio here & I will gladly see what I can do for you, thanks www.dxradioshopny.com
I recently used a magnetic mount fiberglass antenna with the coil of wire wrapped around it and covered with plastic etc. for a mobile antenna. I think Wilson Antenna is good as a mobile. I used one with a palomar 100 linear. Some guy had one on the cb i met him in person in the cb and he had a Wilson he done good on it. I use to talk on channel 21 in Indianapolis when I was 16 years old.
I had cb setup nobody liked me talking on channel 21 i met people my age but mostly older people alot of older people didnt like me talking on there.
The only company producing 2SC1969 is HG. Mitsubishi has not produced those in years.
That crap makes me ill Stu.
Such a nice classic radio destroyed by chop shops
It’s like going thru the drive thru you never no what you get lol
great great video stu !!!!!
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
Wow. Just makes you wonder why someone would do all these things to a beautiful radio?
Uneducated people do those types of things. They don't know, there either being told to do it or watching someone do it and they feel it's the right way which in REALITY only screws the radio up
Hey Stu, remember I sung by with the superstar that was all bent up and we talked about this radio. I had mentioned my friends dad had one with another unit whose function I couldn't recall.. it was the ftv-700 transverter. I'll send a photo I found of a similar setup.
I remember that!
Siro antennas work great (when conditions are good, that is what you hear me on), are priced right and they are not made in China but in Italy.
Yes, the Siro antenna is great, I use mine all the time
Boys learn by my mistakes and let the pros like stu work on your radios and not your Practologist like I did . I feel so bad for this beautiful radio .RIP
those holes sounds like oak island looking for no gold
it looks better than that last 2000 did can you take both an make 1
Hello Stu
Hello my friend
Good morning Stu and everyone
Good Morning
I didn't think you worked on amplifiers
I don't work on amplifiers anymore. I only modified this one for a gentleman. That is about the extent of it. I stopped working on amps 3 years ago because too many people blow them up constantly
