Anything good is from Him; my heart is desperately wicked, but "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no long I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me!

Patti...what a wonderful perspective and I KNOW it didn't happen immediately. Several months ago I was teaching through Philippians 4...kind of as we were coming out of Covid and all. Paul says there that he had "learned to be content in whatever circumstances he found himself in," and "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." How had he come to be able to say those things? And, not just say them, but to live in them; to embrace them; to own them? Go back to Acts 8:5 as Jesus encounters Saul and he says, "Who are You Lord?" That was written somewhere about 25 years before the book of Philippians. Here we see Saul going from saying, "Who are You, Lord" to Paul saying, "I can do all things...I am content." What happened? 2 Corinthians 11:24-31 - "Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am. God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, who is worthy of eternal praise, knows I am not lying." And in Philippians 2:10 he says, "...that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death." The secret of knowing the power of His resurrection is the fellowship of His sufferings. The secret of knowing "I can do all things through Christ" and "I am content in whatever circumstances" is the fellowship of HIs sufferings. Hearing, accepting, embracing, owning, and LIVING the "NO" is the result of the fellowship of HIs sufferings. It is the process of being conformed to the image of Christ. Not my will, but THY will be done. You are a trophy of God's grace, mercy, love and sanctification. Well done, good and faithful servant!! I'm so proud of you!! (In the best sense!)
