Why Finland Is a Second-Hand Shopper’s Paradise!
Why Finland Is a Second-Hand Shopper’s Paradise
Finland is truly a second-hand shopping paradise. In this video we explore the best thrift stores in Finland, including UFF, Kierrätyskeskus (the Recycling Center), and Finnish Red Cross Kontti, where sustainability meets style!
We start at UFF, a beloved second-hand chain with over 20 locations across Finland, where millions of kilos of clothing are given a second life each year. Proceeds from UFF sales support global development projects, making every purchase impactful.
Next, we visit Kierrätyskeskus (the Recycling Center), one of Finland’s largest recycling centers. With over 30 locations nationwide, they save more than 3 million kilos of waste from landfills annually while funding social programs like job training and sustainability education.
Finally, we stop at SPR Kontti, part of the Finnish Red Cross’s second-hand chain, just a stone’s throw from Kierrätyskeskus. Every item sold supports humanitarian work, from disaster relief to community aid.
Discover hidden gems, luxury items like Iittala and Arabia, and learn how shopping second-hand in Finland is good for the planet and your wallet!

Very expensive for second hand clothes.
@@christinamirkovic3857 spot on! We were just saying the other day that some of the viewers might be surprised by the prices, and not in any positive way :) But the fact to the matter is that the profits they still aim to make with these sales goes for development aid and other good causes. So we're really happy with the prices and where it goes.
Your Danish pronunciation is very impressive
Tak skal du have!
Great video! you asked to comment below about the colour of the royal guards uniforms, i was in the royal guards from '09 to '10 and the regular uniform is black, Red is only used for special occacions like royal wedding, monarchs birthdays and big events like that. I got to wear red once, for the late queens 70 birthday gathering. The colour of the fluffy ornament on the sabre, lets you know what guard core is on guard. The guardcore is divided into 4 cores, 1st core is red, 2nd is white, 3rd is blue and i see that there is a 4th using yellow, though we had none using that when i served. The cores are chosen by heights, with red being the tallest guards, and yellow being the shortest. 4th core (shortest) demands a minimum height of 175 cm.
This is super interesting. Are these guys conscripts and were you serving your mandatory military service or is this professional army/guards?
@@FullFinnoy You go to the military draft to see if you have to serve, it is mandatory to show up and draft a number once you reach the age of 18. It is a "lottery" where you either pull a low number, meaning you have to serve in the army for 4 month as mandatory training, or you can get a high number, which means you dont need to serve. If you do pick a high number, you're able to apply to serve in the royal army (a lot of people wants to do that because the paperwork you get after doing mandatory service, means a bit for your future plans, if you want to become a police officer etc), If you do get a high number and apply for the royal guards, you'll be able to serve there if you fit the criterias. All the draftees has to undergo a medical examn and a test to be fit for service, nomatter if you draft a low number, and if you draft a high number, meaning you dont have to serve, but volunteer to serve, you obviously have to undergo the same tests. In the royal guards you serve for 8 months instead of four, where the first 4 is "standard" miliitary training, that you'd get in all the other places you can serve, and the next 4 months (after completing the "rex tour" and recieving your shoulderstraps, you'll move to copenhagen and be stationed as the barracks at Gothersgade, where your job will be to guard the palaces around Denmark. Most danes are decently tall, like the rest of scandinavia, however there is a minimum height you need to have to be able to apply for the royal guards, which is 175 cm i believe. You always stand guard at amalienborg castle (24 hour shifts), and then you have 2 days off (while one of the other cores are on 24h shifts), and then you have to check a noticeboard to see if you're picked for one of the other castles, i was at Fredensborg for 2 weeks? i cant recall exactly how long at a time it was, but also at a couple other castles too.
@@FullFinnoy Also, you might be aware, but some people definitly aren't, the guards protecting the palaces and castles around the country, are there for a purpose. Many people dont understand that the guards have live rounds in their rifles, Once you are going to your 24h shift at amalienborg, you're inspected by your superior to make sure your gear is in perfect condition and all the equipment and your shoes, are perfectly taken care off. If you fail the inspection, one of you fellow guards, who was supposed to go home to their family for the 2 days, will have to take your place, and you'll be written up. Being written up twice will get you kicked out of the army. Once inspected, you're handed a 10 round magasine for the rifle, and you march to the palace. We had an incident when i was serving, where a drunk kid attempted to impress a girl (that was also drunk), went up to one of the guards from 1st core and tried to take hold of his rifle. The guards are always present, day and night. The guy was obviously subdued and the police came and drove him away. People probably should consider, their concequences when engaging with a guard, because if the drunk guy had gotten a hold of the rifle, it could've ended tragic, as all the other guards on the palacegrounds, would have to act to the "threat"
Its funny how we fins dont wanna make noises..like pss hoi and silence as possible😅 well i have grown off that,i just shout😁 heii liisa! 🙋🏻♀️
For me that is just too tempting to use still, although understood that it's a rude way to address anyone. Funny nevertheless and all Filipinos react to it.
more comfortable, and itâs also not a big deal, which makes me feel relieved. I love a good kislux because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing. Thatâs the part. Thatâs it. I feel like people discriminate against knockoffs, but for me, I pause when I buy trendy stuff in bulk or when I feel the over-consumption frenzy is coming for me. (This is something I struggle with, haha! I can be easily convinced to buy things I donât wear or use. They literally have tags on them and Iâll forget I even bought something and Iâll still have 2 or 3 of those in my closet.) Love this video!
True
Om du tror det är löss i mink- mössan . Stoppa in i dubbla plast påsa , sen in i frysen , ta ut påsen , låt tina och sen in i frysen igen ett dygn.

Wow, do tell us more! Please explain.
Itâs not that I'm bothered by people buying dupes or fakes, but if I invest my hard earned money into that item, I wouldnât want to buy that brand, or bag, or design and find something more than fit into my needs and wants as kislux . And nothing is wrong with that.
I understand.

Hi, I watch your TH-cam video. Your TH-cam video is amazing. But your channel and videos expected more views and subs. I analyzed your TH-cam channel and I found TH-cam video SEO is not done. And the keywords you used in the video have a lot of competition so your video doesn't rank first in the search list and doesn't reach your audience. This is why your video is not going viral and views are not increasing. If You have any confusion feel free to ask. Thank You.
Thank you for your concern. Great job you do!
Enjoy cooking.. New friend here and sending support to your channel.

I bought that tocino but it’s not good. The best is from Pampanga’s Best.
Hey, good to know. And yes, by preparing your self and curing the meat overnight the result should be somewhat different. Looking so much forward on our self made tocino and the comparison. Please, give me a challenge, what Pinoy dish should I try to prepare next?

How is it possible to test the quality of life in a country, by doing museums, visiting cafee's in the capital. It goes way deeper than this. I can assure you, that the most danes find quality of life, anywhere alse but in Copenhagen.
You are absolutely correct. Thank you for your comment & view, truly appreciate it.
You didnt experience Denmark, just Copenhagen. As a dane, i think Copenhagen sucks. Lived there 25 years, and escaped.
This must be very true and we do have dig deeper with beautiful Danmark. Next up Fynn, Odense and beyond.

Your pronounciation is good. Would you by chance be finnish?
I would! Denmark is such a lovely country. Now we just got to find our way deeper outside of København to experience more.
@@FullFinnoy I spotted the accent by your first sentence. You can actually make a lot of day trips outside Copenhagen by train or busses. A trip to other Islands might take about 2-3 hours for instance Fyn. One of our most beautifull museums for modern art is Louisiana is near by also the old dutch village Dragør is on the Amager Island in the surbubs. The dutch was invited to grow vegs for the king and copenhagen on this island. If you want to go to the second biggest city Århus there is a lot to see f.i. the old town museum and a a big museum of modern art.
wow, yummy, i like it better not too sweet,
Interesting! This was an accidental success of not bevomming too sweet. I can say I like it like this aswell. What Pinoy food would you recommend for me to try to cook next?
Those mini bibingka look good!! I was very surprised though that you had salted eggs available in Finland. I plan to make pancit canton and bihon (mixed) and cassava cake tomorrow for the fam. Have you tried those?
Wow, naman! Sounds delish! And cassava cake must be difficult to layer nicely, or is it? Salted eggs, Chicharon, different ube jams. Thr selection is surpsingly good as the Filipino community closes to be around 9.000 Filipinos living in Finland if not already more. So with the pepole comes the tastes and it's a great development.
Wow! Yummy, next time, you try to cook dinugoan😂
Challenge accepted!
Behind the scenes are good too!😂
I'm natural at producing behind the scenes material. I should create a whole new genre for this 🙃
Yes..something people will smile n laugh!👍
Good job! Looks yummy!👍👏
Do I dare to try Chocolate Soufflé 😅
Wooww!! Looks very good ❤
Sobrang sarap!
The Vikings used plywood for their shields. Heck. The romans used plywood for their shields. Plywood is a very old invention The tiles in the throneroom is called "dutch tiles" - each of them fetch a freaking furtune these days. Biking is a way of life.. wut?+ Its just a convinient mean of transportation, end of story. You use bike when that make sens, and you use cars/trains etc when that makes sense. Its not a way of life, its just something you do
Thank you for insights very valuable indeed. Interesting facts about the dutch tiles. Have to study more on them.
Yea. I can vouch the quality of life is pretty good.' One thing tho; hygge and minimalism is often opposites. Not always, but they can easily "collide". Hygge is so much more undefinable than a designstyle. When talking about hygge and room atmosphere, you often want a lot of "accesories" to set the mood for hygge. Candles, blankets, a book, your "cuppa", raindrops on the window, a good movie with the family, kids in the kitchen messing everything up while they bake a cake, me repairing my bike while you paint and and read magazines and plan next holiday. Hygge is a lot of things. But cold and sharp, minimalistic is not. IMHO.. Hygge is obviously 110 % subjective. It can be almost anything that disconnects you from your duties and put you in a state of just being where you are. the only true defining factor is, you know it when you see it.. - and it may be minimalistic if thats what rock your boat edit; HC Andersen isnt even from copenhagen. Its a bit of cultural appropriation when we display him here. HCAndersen belongs to Fyn/Odense. The "greed" is almost embarrasing
This was great. Hygge could easily be a complete tooic os its own even for a video series. Thank you so much!
im a dane and its sad to see the prices in copenhagen , and the people there are dum enough to pay these over the top prices , especially the buns from a certain bakery , ill laugh every time i see tourists pay a lot for nothing special
You are absolutely correct. Probably all the capital areas rake high prices from services and goods. We love to cook and the best that comes out of travel are the ideas and concepts trying to replicate later the experiences and tastes, so perhaps that evens it out atleast for us in a way.
Yummy 😋 😋 😋
Was it done even remotely correct?
