Red and Gold Decorated Shanxi Armoire
This elegant cabinet in a vibrant red lacquer would enhance any space with its vibrant, rich colours and luxurious aesthetic. Crafted in Shanxi province around the turn of the last century, its red and gold design elements are characteristic of the region, particularly for wedding cabinets as the combination is believed to bring good luck. The doors and lower panel feature intricate gold circles, each showcasing a traditional Chinese symbol or animal. The doors are cleverly attached to the frame using wooden dowels instead of metal hinges, allowing for a larger canvas for the decorative elements in gold. The two removable shelves and hidden compartment behind the bottom panel inside add to the versatility of this piece. Two drawers at the bottom - most likely added more recently - provide extra storage space.
