Suburban SF-30Q sail switch and limit switch location and check
มุมมอง 63K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Our furnace in our Vortex 3317V would only come on for 15-20 seconds. It was determined to be the limit switch but in this video I show you where the sail switch and limit switch are located to help you fix your furnace. People listed both as common failure points in these systems so it is good to check both.
Water leak in Vortex 3317v or Genesis 33ck

Water was leaking in the pass through and on the floor of the bathroom, this seems to be a consistent problem I see posted about time and time again. Pretty easy fix if it is the same cause as ours. Thank you for checking out the video!

    BEST PRACTICES- After your Rv & furnas get some years on them, mine is 9 yo, dont waste your time troubleshooting these-just replace is a good preventative maintenance move. if one switch went bad the other will probably go soon as well. it is $ well spent. !

    Its OK to jump a safety switch for diagnostics as long as it is attended. You DO NOT want to leave it running & walk away! !

    I’m not the handiest man out there but I dabble and your video was exactly what I needed to watch. I ended up removing the clips from my limit switch then hooking them back up and problem solved. Thank you very much. Do you think it’s a sign that my limit switch is going out?

    Cody good video there dude. Thanks for sharing the twist off hose couplers that hook in the back and carries the heat....never knew they came off that way...(I would have had to pull the foiled hoses off and had a bigger mess or damage to it.

    Well I started with the sail switch it checked out ok then to the limit switch and it tested good so I put everything back together and tried it and hello flamo so there was obviously a short on one of the connections anyway momma’s happy I’m happy come on winter

      Awesome! The sail switch can get gummed up with dust also and cause it to not work, it’s a possibility this is what you had happen and moving it around cleaned it up.

    you might not know it, depending how many floor registers are block (by a rug or other objects) or reduced air flow (somethings fell in the registers building up over time) can cause the heat to back up in the furnace opening the limit switch.

    • @RompinWildMedia
      @RompinWildMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 100% correct in that aspect. I would think you would have a continued problem with the limit switch tripping and it would bench test good at that point also.

    This helped me fix our problem with the rv we rented from cruise America. It was a fairly new rv with only 33k miles. In any case, the sail switch was an external one, so I did not have to take off the blower housing. I just toggled the switch up and down a few times with my finger. It must have been stuck. It just started working!!! Further details: we had used the furnace for 2 days in frigid weather and went through a full tank of propane in those 2 days … temp ranged from -1F - 9F for 2 days. We had to find a place to refill propane. Then we stopped using furnace for about 14 hours while we drove to warmer weather … mid 20’s …. Then the furnace would not start …the blower motor would run 20- 30 seconds and then shut off before starting heater. I tried about 20 times. We went through all the troubleshooting with cruise America without success. They could not find an open rv repair shop in this area due to weekend and offered to reimburse us for a space heater . In any case, this video helped me fix it on my own! Hope this helps somebody!

    Limit switch confused, normal operation both sides 12v ?

    • @RompinWildMedia
      @RompinWildMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to try and recall the information now but I believe the switch is normally closed meaning it allows voltage through until it gets too hot then it will open and stop the flow of voltage. If you bench test it and there is no continuity through the switch then it is bad.

    Great video! Looks like a pain to get to the limit switch, but we’ll worth the trouble vs a service visit!

    • @RompinWildMedia
      @RompinWildMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it depends on the RV or coach how difficult it could be but the small amount of time spent doing it is well worth the savings!

    I don't have access to the sail switch from the outside. I just have the 2 exhaust tubes. I wonder if I can remove the heater (to get to the sail switch )from the inside by taking the grill off? Great video!

    • @RompinWildMedia
      @RompinWildMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There may be a way to access it from inside. You would have to locate your fan motor to be able to locate the switch. Thank you!

    • @texasliam
      @texasliam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You gotta pull it out from the inside. Disconnect thermostat wire, voltage in, and gas line

    I have a 2019 cardinal 5th wheel. I guessing mine went out. Is there always a way to get to it from inside the camper or do I have to pull the unit out? Any help would be appreciated as we are staying in it this winter

    • @RompinWildMedia
      @RompinWildMedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sail switch you most like have to get to from outside, the limit switch you can get to from inside. Some trailers maybe different but most are going to be set up this way.

    On the sale switch do you remember which terminal was positive and which was negative I wasn’t paying attention when I pulled them off

    • @RompinWildMedia
      @RompinWildMedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t but it shouldn’t matter either way the switch is either open or close. All the switch does is complete the circuit so you could wire them to either side.
