We wanted to show this old junk yard and garage off before there isnt anything left to show. Kirks been here many times over the years but this was my first. We also explored the house but thats another video. Before anyone asks. Nothing is for sale. Thats why its here. These cars are all projects in the waiting. Until they are dirt again.

Thanks for explaining what the marks are and how they got there. I didn't know that the material was ceramic. I did notice that we got the marks when the fireplace got really hot mainly from burning too much black locust. I need to remember to mix it with oak. That sure looked like a lot of work. In your honest opinion, is it worth all the work or would it be better to just pay to replace with new ceramic?
So. What you seen was ALL the work. It really wasnt that much. Repair it. Why spend if you dont have to. But thats just me. Thank you very much for the nice compliment. Its rare online
I use the ash powder on a wet paper towel to wipe down my glass. Done this for 10 years with my Oslo!

I really should start making them again. I added tusk tera bytes
Thanks.
Just subscribed since I moved to a country house with the same stove as yours. Love your videos. Have you ever had air intake problems with your stove? I fixed the problem I had of lack of fresh air but I can’t seem to get a fire like yours. The only way to get a flame filled stove with good heat is with the door cracked. Even with the lever fully open (right), it just doesn’t get enough air to keep the fire going well. I wonder if there’s something internal on the intake that’s preventing good air from getting to the fire

So if it goes unused for a long period of time, it is very possible that mice built a nest in the air canal. The only other option is, you are using wet unseasoned wood, but I’m sure you would know not to do that. Maybe try vacuuming the canal out and ceiling around it as best you can so I can only pull air from the other end as you vacuum.
I blew it out with a shop vac and didn’t get anything out. The wood is oak that was cut and split over 2 years ago after the tree stopped leafing out. I don’t have a device to measure moisture. I’ll try cleaning it again. Is there any kind of temperature sensing valve in these Jotuls that would restrict the air? Or is it a clean line from the hole in the bottom to the vent by the lever? It seems like if there was air flowing to that housing, there would be flame there ... thanks for commenting!
@DiverDimeff the vent is in the very back of the stove underneath. It is a rectangular outlet that leads to a three hole air intake inside the stove. There is no valve that closes anything except for the air control lever. Blowing it out could make the clog worse, if there is a mouse nest in it from lack of use, you have to put it on vacuum and make sure the air is being pulled from the inside of the stove to clear that line. Putting pressure in the line could make the clog worse. Assuming there’s something in there at all
@DiverDimeff also Oak is very tough and likely two years from Green cut and split is enough. But it also has to be very very dry. The stoves do not burn wet wood very well. I always cut one year in advance and make sure the logs are standing dead and they get very very dry in my basement and that is the only way the stove performs well.
The wood is stored in a barn then to the basement. I’ll try cleaning it again but the stove is inside the house. Can’t imagine there’s a mouse clog but I’ll check again. When I blew it out before, I could tell it was coming out the three holes. Just seems weird that the fire burns great with the door cracked but crappy when the door is closed. No air ... I’ve never been able to get it hot even with the vent wide open. Can’t figure out why it won’t pull air from the vent underneath. Thanks for your advice

What if you wet sanded it then polished?
Not sure. I didnt want to risk deep scratches i couldnt buff out.
Nice work. Time and attention to detail, makes for great results. Most people don't want to take the time to achieve the desired outcome.
Mine works perfectly for my farm and lite trail use. At fifty years old my crazy days of hard and fast trail riding are over so this works great for me. I just cruz and listen to the radio.
Same here for me. 95% of the time. Also much better for the little passenger.
Omg! That was such a great tip shared at @00:55 I am so glad I came across your channel, it makes me so much more comfortable renting a car.
Youll have a blast.
Hi do you still have your stove? I just picked used one up like yours V2
Old video but is that the Nicholson bridge? We have a farm up near Laceyville.
Yepp.
Wow that stove can take a lotta wood! Wonderful videos, I've enjoyed just sitting and watching for a bit of relaxation, thanks! I have an old, abused Vermont Castings Resolute Acclaim stove in our living room that will need to go or get some serious parts repair soon. It simply cannot compare to that Jotul! I never thought I could walk away from the stove with a full load, and it looks like previous occupants tried that, leading to warped and cracked interior pieces. But then it was never intended as a primary heat source, so that's OK. I am curious how that catalytic combustor has held up tho. What is the maintenance like? Supposedly you never need to replace it, but there is periodic fly ash removal needed. Also, Is there another, smaller Jotul you might recommend for lower-demanding use?
This model doesnt have a cat
Your lucky you got this Jotul five years ago. I was going to buy one soon, (2024) but Jotul now uses a “catalyst” in all their stoves. “Jotul fusion” and “high flow” combuster technology. Quite disappointing. The catalyst has a warranty of 10 years and if it fails again will charge you 50% of that. They can make a good clean burning wood stove without this catalyst junk. I currently have a Vermont Castings Aspen model. I owned it for 25 years. No catalyst and no issues. It is a very efficient wood stove. I’m going to keep looking and hopefully I can find a nice large non” catalytic cast iron wood stove.
Just got an 89 Wrangler. Looking forward to putting on a Bikini top in spring!!
If I'm not mistaken, that stove has a cast horn at the rear to plumb for exterior air. That makes a great difference in overall performance...
Where is it located?
@@laurelsoderholm9480 As you face from the front it is back bottom left. Might be a bolt on accessory...
I've had a F500 for 4 years now, just a quick note: If you don't want the immediate flare-up when you open the ask pan door, just open the side door before you open the ash pan door and keep it open while the ash pan door is open, and most of the draft will enter through that door (the side) instead of the bottom and it will significantly cut down on the flare up.
Why have a wood stove in a cellar to heat dirt and concrete ? Makes NO sense,
Lol. Theres a house over it. Funny question.
@@AlfonsLC Wood stoves are SPACE HEATERS where people spend time. You want to heat dirt and concrete, fine. It's a waste. Silly.
@annaaron3510 ive been heating my house with only wood for 20 years. I dont need you to tell me if it works or not.
Great video and extensive review! And the narration? You’re a natural! lol! I just picked up a 2021 rzr ultimate, original owner upgraded tires to 27” over stock 26” and custom offset rims putting the stance at 55” (tire bulge, not rim). I did not check the clearance, didn’t realize theres a squat as shown in your vid, will have to inspect this weekend and adjust accordingly. I’ve a question…. Slightly pressing the accelerator pedal to maintain a speed slightly above idle, I notice a hesitation causing a jerking motion. Have you as well? If so have you looked into a remedy? I’ve seen after market plug ins, just unsure if the $300 investment would remedy this or perhaps it’s simply an adjustment of the throttle positioning sensor? Ponderings…. Have yourself a Happy Thanksgiving!
I dont have that problem.
Ash pans…I’d rather shovel it out.
Love the videos and Kirk is a rock star
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions. Great narration and drone video.
Hey buddy Pete from the market here! Awesome job so far!
It’s so great meeting people who appreciate these sort of things and thank you very much for checking out my silly videos
Well - time to get it repaired on the 1975 406 (OM352) that we have. It has been stumbling and losing fuel pressure for months now. Thank you for the head's up!
This was an awesome review and I consider it one of the best and appreciate your honesty, Ive been looking for the same type of machine and your review answered all the questions I could not find anywhere else, Believe me I've tried ! good job and thanks !
Wow. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. Made my day.
Getting ready to put the new 445 in this week
Nice! I’ve been eyeing this new stove. Hope it works out well for you.
Getting one of these for my 95 YJ soon. Thank you for this great video!
you got any idea what the fuel inlet to the lift pump fitting is? Fixing up a TJ with the OM617. Using AN6 fuel lines.. trying to figure out how best to do the fuel inlet. and inline filter. Is that a big M12 to nipple on the inlet to the pump orr?
Sorry man. Really forget that detail. We used all the factory lines for the 4 banger i remember for sure. And i remember right we just went with some rubber hose with good tight clamps. Been driving it for years now. Never a problem.
Nice! How did you throttle the stove on the break in fires? I just got an f45. Unsure if I run it wide open on all 3 or what
Only using a small amount of wood like 4 small pieces and a fire starting log
Your Jotul ( pron. Yer-tul) is a multi-fuel burner i.e. wood & solid fuel, as it has a grate to allow air to enter from beneath the the solid fuel. Dedicated wood burners such as the Jotul No 3, have no grate, only a flat base, as wood burns best on a bed of it's own ashes, with the air supplied only from above, albeit in an airwash design. If you do use any solid fuel, you should know that it virtually always contains a small % of Pet-coke (for ease of lighting,) derived from petro-chemicals. This certainly causes crazing of the glass such as you have experienced here, but it is almost impossible to source solid fuel without it as an ingredient. I now have Morso, as Scandinavian cast iron stoves are often regarded as the best, by many users. Thanks for posting.
I had an RZR… 2008 2009. I believe, I beat the living snot out of that thing for two years and other friends following me told me I was burning oil…. So I traded it in and bought a Honda…. come to find out later on the man who bought the RZR, the engine blew up!.. the man who bought it was a pretty competent mechanic however,Weiseco sent him the wrong pistons, and it blew up again! not really surprised. .. no more side-by-sides for me .. too big and heavy, currently a 2024 Polaris sportsman 570 Hunt edition… so far great machine.😊
I miss my quad sometimes. The open free air. Maybe ill get another one.
it is Ayden
cool
Good review. I'm shopping for one of these and I appreciated the honesty from you. That rear ground clearance issue is interesting and I'll definitely check that out in the showroom when I go look for one.
P.S. don't load from the front, use the side door. Ashes pile up on the front and spill out when opening. We never used the front for loading. The only poor design of a super wood stove.
No one seriously using a wood stove for major heating places it in a cellar . Wood stoves are for heating areas where you spend time; local heat. Sure "heat rises", but.... In a cellar most of the BTUs pass out the foundation into dirt. In over 12 years with the Oslo ( and another stove in another part of the home ) we never used the front door since the ashes pile up and fall out when loading. Experience.
Im sure your way is the only way. Been heating my house for years this way. Works great. Its my only heat source. My house is always warm and i dont use much wood. So it must be just fine.
@@AlfonsLC No not the only way. You have another heating source ?
@annaaron3510 no other heat source. Just firewood from one stove.
Excellent stove, high quality, efficient heater. BUTT! Most of the BTUs go out into the foundation into dirt. Wood stoves need to be where you spend time.
While heat sink is real. My house is ok a hill one side is rock. The other side is insulated wall. You can also insulate over the foundation to dramatically counter a heat sink. So still convection is working just fine for years for me
Great stove? Some people let the ash pan build up and just shovel out the ash. This also helps extend the burn times. The new V3 Oslo has a cat and there has been some reported problems.
The ash pan door seal needs to be changed. It’s regular maintenance only cost about five bucks. The ash pan is one of the best parts of the stove. In my opinion. I know some people do this and I’ve heard they even make a version without the ash pan now. It is not something that makes any difference to me in Burn times because I change the seal
You need a rear back panel or else it acts like a vacuum and sucks all the dust into the cab
Its on there.
@@AlfonsLC nice looked like you went into the cab from the back in the one shot
@SJ_999 i did. I dont always leave it in. Took it out for filming some things. And when its real hot. Thanks for
where can I buy it? name and brand please?
Besttop bikini top for yj wrangler.
Stove and wood too close......
Thanks for the instruction! I’ve thought about installing mirrors in the front like you did, but how well do they stay in place during bumpy riding? I bought some after market door mirrors that would never stay in place while riding, so went back to stock mirrors..
I have a video up with my mirrors. Mine are fine. Its always the same mission. Beware cheap chinese crap and youll be fine.
Thank you for the video I’m learning this is very helpful
1:33
Lots of wood near the stove........
Drys and burns better as winter goes by. The temps for it to burst into flame are much higher than it could ever get that far from it. The floor above would burn first.
@@AlfonsLC Don't play smart. A spark set fire to my friend's barn. You can't imagine how FAST it was.
Are you sure i cant imagine ? A spark can come from anything and set fire to any home at any moment. On the rare occasion this stove throws sparks. You keep the door cracked until finished. Even when thats not being done. Those sparks dont travel more than 15 inches from the open door. The wood is 7 or 8 feet from the door. Either way. Caution isnt a bad thing. You do what you feel comfortable and i will do the same.
What a nice old one. Greetings from germany Christoph 🎩 😊
That is the Tunkhannock Creek viaduct in Nicholson isn’t it?
Yes. Right in front of my house
Awesome video on your amazing stove. Seeing that you heat your whole house with wood, do you think a catalytic stove would've saved you on the amount of wood used? My understanding is that catalytic stoves have extremely slow burn times of up to 30 hours. I'm currently shopping for a wood stove, your videos have been extremely helpful - I'm thinking about going with the same model!
The only model now available is the cat oslo. I cant imagine the burn times being that long. I suspect whoever told you that is exaggerating. But again. It depends on what you cann burn time. My holds hot could to start another fire after 25 hours or more. But the stove is cold to the touch
@@AlfonsLC Thanks! Been doing a lot of research. I was looking at some soapstone stoves, they claim 30 hrs but I think that is more heat retention via thermal mass. However it seems as though some of the Blaze King stoves can do a very slow and low controlled burn for 20+ hrs as this one review claims. Seems similar to your Oslo. th-cam.com/video/ViUvF_n90i0/w-d-xo.html
@hapaboy0808 ill check it out. I dont consider a bed of coals. Burn time. But. It maybe fair to say so. It produced some heat that way
If you were mostly riding on trails would you rather have this RZR or a Can Am Outlander XXC?
I have no experience with that machine so I cannot say
I have a 2023 RZR 900 Trail, I can confirm everything you said. Excellent review.
