Adding an Under Hood Light to our 2020 Chevy Silverado
For some reason it seems ALL auto manufactures have decided we don't need a light under our hood. Jack and I show you how to add one quickly, easily, and -- most importantly -- cheaply!!
While we did this on our 2020 Chevy Silverado, you should be able to use the same kit (linked below) on any vehicle!

3.5 Inch Lift on my 2020 Chevy Silverado
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I finally did it, I pulled the trigger and got the new wheels, tires, and a 3.5 inch lift from Rough Country installed on our 2020 Silverado. Most annoying video ever.
We'll do better next time
how is it annoying?
Was there an additional dash switch or how do you turn them on and off
No switch, I chose the harness that caused the fog lights to come on when the headlights are on
20x9 wheels
I'm doing this install tomorrow on my 24 Silverado. Thanks for the video.
Awesome! We actually just bought a 24 2500, so will be doing it again.
Lift kit link?
Roughy country 3.5in lift, I recommend the n3 struts in the front instead of the spacers, it’s around 900ish buts it’s more functional
@@scout3690 thanks, great work
Mine is significantly more stubborn than yours. I still haven’t gotten the old bow tie loose yet. Was there a trick to getting it to just pop loose? Did the tabs stay intact or did you go ahead and just break them off? Or maybe I need to hire your young helper?
Ours popped off without issue and none of the tabs broke. As for hiring my helper, I'll have him check his schedule 🤣
How much did this cost you?
Where did you get the tool kit from?
I purchased it on Amazon, here's a link -- geni.us/9AgEyC6
Thanks a bunch on this!!!@@jacknsaav
Do you have the fog light button on your light switch?
No I did not...and still do not. I opted for the harness that simply has the fog lights come on when I turn on the headlights
That was adorable! Good thing you had little guy around to bail you out!
He's a big help and has saved the day on more than one occasion!
How much was it for labor to install lift ?
Wheels, tires, lift, installation, and alignment was around 4K if I remember correctly
Not bad all . Like video inspired to lift my 2020 1500
Came across one of your comments and wanted to drop by and show some support!
Thanks...we appreciate your support
What kind of switch?
Hey Dan, I did not use a switch, the wiring harness I used turns the lights on when my head lights are on
Did you get the lift with the spacer in the front or the extended shock in the front? Looking todo my 2023 and keep the same ride quality
I got the one with the spacer
I ordered these lights and it says there is a code or something. Does any programming have to be done when the lights are installed?
Not if you use the harness I recommended. The only parts you'll use from the OEM light kit are the lights
@@jacknsaav awesome. I did order the same harness you used! Thanks!
@@crowhop1 Sweet, let me know how it turns out!
they stay on with high beams? SWEET! I hate that the factory setup goes off with high beams
Great video! The little guy is having a blast. Which exact lights did you buy? I'd like to take this exact route.
Thanks! I was convinced I was doing it wrong...Mine as WAY more stubborn than yours was, I am thinking I may have been better waiting until it was HOT outside. Or maybe I needed a skilled helper like you had!! It does look better black.
I couldn't have done it without him!
they have to be on all the time ? there is no controlling them?
Gen5 DIY makes 3 different harnesses. The one I bought is always on. They have one with a switch that allows you to control the lights as well.
@@jacknsaavI was looking at the harness and it has a warning that the harness for always on is only for silverados with factory installed lights. Does it make a difference or no and if you could link all parts in the description I’d appreciate it!
were did you get the harness?
I picked it up from Gen5 DIY, there is a link in the description. They have 3 to choose from.
Love the kid helping !!
Thanks, he loves helping out!
Looks great!!! I just bought a 2021 and am looking to add fog lights like this. I do have a question to maybe you know the answer. I love the wiring harness as it makes it really simple to install which is what I like. Do you know if it's compatible with the after market Amazon LED DRL if it can plug directly into it? Thanks
I am not sure, but if you reach out to Gen5 DIY they may have the answer you're looking for!
nice looking
Thanks
Omg!!! I was just using bubble wrap for a floor Matt too to work on my truck nice brother!!
Jack is very creative...and loves his bubble wrap!
Hehe, I need a power socket drive like Jack's! Great video!
Thanks, and thanks for the inspiration
Did you install a shorter rear block to make it more level Or is it the one in the kit?
yes, I had to install a shorter block. The one that comes with the kit will maintain the 2 inch rake
What size rear block? 1.5 or 2.0.? How does it ride looking at this kit. Looks awesome.
the kit came with a 3 or 3.5, I put in a 1.5. The ride is great, highly recommend the kit
The kit comes with a 2.5 wondering if I should buy a 1.5 on the side and install that one instead so it’s level..?
That Nova was the last fun car our parents ever had...
Yes it was
Hey Jack! that's Bright!
Ok.. Jack is officially my favorite TH-cam car guy!! I guess you're ok too Saav. lol Great video!

Mighty fine drawers you got there!
Thanks...it was a fun install
Hey well done. Very good video. Informative and easy to follow. Even for someone who is not great with cars, like me. all the best #vrafam
You make that look easy Jack! You'll have to come up and help me do mine. (Uncle Steve)
We'll add it to the fun list of things we have planned for our next visit
👏👏
Pretty slick little setup!
Hello Jack! This looks like a simple and fun project. It looks easy enough but it also looks quite durable. Thanks for the insight and information.
It’s so great to see how the two of you are working together. Probably you mentioned it earlier in the video and I missed it but would just like to know why you guys decided to lift the truck?
The reason for lifting the truck is mainly cosmetic...I wanted a more aggressive and level look to the truck. It will also handle a lot of the basic trails around here (it's a 2 wheel drive)
@@jacknsaav okay, looks fantastic with the lift and great choice of wheels.
@@maxlodewyk_na Thanks...I am enjoying the new look!
That’s a beautiful truck, over here in Namibia we refer to them as bakkies. The biggest one sold this side is the Ford Ranger Raptor. I love how grandpa and grandson are working so well together.

Thanks for the Subscribe Mark, you've been an inspiration.
That's bright Little J!
Wow Jack and Saav, you guys are great with modifying cars! Now we know we can do something that even a 3 year can do! Thanks guys!
Great job Jack and Saav! The black one made the whole truck look so much better. Nice tool set! Keep up the great work!
Thanks and I agree, the black one was the way to go!
Fancy. Great work Jack! Saav couldn't do it without you!
Great video! Loved the fact that you got your grandson involved.
Thanks, he'll be featured in most of the videos
This is so cool, Jack already knows how to mod at his age.
