For ship lap, its recommended to use 18 gauge nails. 16 gauge has a higher chance of splitting it.

Benjamin Moore Advance line of paint, semi-gloss sheen. Needs two coats, sand 220 grit between coats. Same paint that I used for trim throughout the room. Looks very sharp.

Thank you for your interest in our Grayling, Michigan Particleboard Plant project. First and foremost, you have our commitment that ARAUCO will operate this facility in a safe and environmentally sound manner and meet international standards and federal, state and local requirements. To answer the first part of your question related to railroad usage, we do plan to leverage the existing nearby rail system to deliver some of our finished board product to our customers. We are still finalizing plans for which destinations and products would be shipped via rail as compared to other transportation modes, e.g., trucks. As for Michigan and sound forestation practices, we think it’s very important that the public know that one of the reasons ARACO found this region of Michigan attractive is the wood surplus. Due to the economic downturn, and related decline in demand for wood products, there has been a slump in the historical levels of logging operations in the area. As a result, the region has built up a huge bank account of local forest resources. So much build up that we anticipate using only 30% of the surplus regional forest resources available on an annual growth basis when we the plant is at full operating capacity. To reinforce this point, that is 30% of surplus, not available forest resources. At the same time, the forest will continue to grow. We anticipate drawing round wood from a 70-mile radius and residual wood chips and sawdust from a 150-mile radius. We believe it’s also important for the public to know that one of the advantages of composite wood panel products such as ours is that the manufacturing process utilizes wood-by products, like wood chips, from local manufacturers, e.g., sawmills, to extend the effective and efficient use of forest resources in the region. Related to that last point, Arauco will not directly manage logging operations, but instead purchase wood and wood by-products from local sawmills and logging companies. As always, we will apply sound and sustainable forest management practices in working with our wood and fiber suppliers.
