Described as ‘mesmerising: full of passion, imagination and daring’ by The Times, violinist SongHa is a top prize winner of Montreal International Competition 2023 and Yehudi Menuhin International Competition 2016. She was recently named a laureate at the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2024.
SongHa has given solo performances at Maison Symphonique Montreal, Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, Palais de Bozar, Seoul Arts Centre, Konzerthaus Berlin, the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall in London and Lotte Concert Hall, performing with orchestras such as Belgian National Orchestra, Montreal Symphony, KBS Symphony and Lithuanian National Symphony.
SongHa is regularly featured on live media such as BBC3, Medici TV, RAI Italia, NPO Klassiek, EuroArts, BBC Arts and Classic FM.

• About the work •
Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was a Parisian throughout his entire life. Though he did not go through the traditional route of studying compositions at the Paris Conservatory, his surrealistic compositional aesthetics lead him to become a prominent member of the Les Six. Mentored by Erik Satie and later by Jean Cocteau, the music of this group rejected the traditional German Romanticism and impressionism. Poulenc's music is essentially diatonic, known for his special touch in creating melodies and tonal harmonisation with a hint of chromaticism.
The balanced nature of both 'serious' and 'non serious', as well as sentiment and sarcasm is a notable characteristic of Poulenc. It is particularly noticeable in The Bagatelle, from the Cantata 'Le Bal Masqué', written to texts by the early surrealist poet Max Jacob in 1932.
The cantata is originally written for an ensemble of violin, cello, piano, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, cornet a piston, and percussion, which is very similar to the instrumentation of Stravinsky's well known The Soldier's Tale. A Bagatelle originates from Italian Bagattella, meaning a trifle, or a decorative thing, and it is used to title a short unpretentious musical work, perhaps first used by Beethoven.
