Hi! I booked this with my hostel at Moalboal. The name of the hostel is La Casa Maria Hostel. From my experience, booking tours with tour guides/hostel owners in person are much better and you can negotiate for a better price too (you can’t do that online hahah). I suggest if you go solo, just book the tour once you’re there! If you’re going in groups, better to book online! :)

I agree, its certainly one of the more ethical conservation places. I avoid zoos/aquariums etc at all costs so I guess the thing that doesn’t sit right w me in Oslob was the overcrowding and lack of crowd regulation. The government and the Whale Shark organisation can definitely do a better job at regulating the crowds like setting a cap to the number of people allowed in the water. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this! I have been sharing to friends about my views on this and I do think it is more ethical than a lot of other wildlife “conservation” places though I still do not think the environment is the most ideal for these fishes.

I respect your opinion about whale shark in oslob but for me it is most ethical than big companies operating zoo, aquariums and among others. whale shark watching in oslob is a morning activity only. its helps a lot to poor local people especially fisherman , before they're hunting them to eat and whale shark disturbing the fisherman while they are fishing. feeding is not for staying them in that area but for staying them up in the water so that tourist can see them, note they are there year around ever since with or without feeding. shale shark are not in cage anytime they can go and comeback. the activity are monitored by local government, experts, scientist and biologist. and now human and whale hark helping each other, not hunting them then gives livelihood.
