Dumping Ballast on the BPRR and Endangered ALCOs on the WNYP | Railfanning Western New York
Filmed on: 8/12/2024
______________________________________
In today's video, our cameras returned to the well known railroad town of Salamanca, New York. This day in particular, we would follow around the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad’s SARE job, with an ex-B&O GP38, as well as a Penn Central SW1500 end cab switcher. Learn about what ballast is, and how it plays a crucial part in how railroading works, and watch maintenance crews dump and spread ballast around Ashford Junction.
Afterwards, we set out to find endangered ALCo C430 locomotives on the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad. We get to Olean, NY to find EMD GP15 replacements already on the property, as well as some of the last GE AC6000 models on the WNYP sitting outside the engine shops. We watch the crew for the Farmers Valley Turn, OL-2, start up the 1947 built ALCo's, and then chase them down to the wax plant at sunset.

Awesome video! We visited Cass Scenic Railroad State Park but as the train rides are booked up so far in advance were unable to go on the train ride to Bald Knob. Seeing this video was the next best thing. Thanks for posting.
At 2:59 why did the locomotive sound like it was at full power or almost full power was it to charge the brakes or to keep the engine warm
That Ebell sounds more scarier than the purge siren, like actually tho
Awesome videos! How often do you get to railfan?
Fantastic audio capture!! Think that really adds to the video
@@theCLEcyclist Thank you! You can see more in my long form content on my channel !
@northernohiorailfanningpro8899 I'll look that up, thanks! I have a trip to Europe coming up and downloaded TH-cam content is my favorite way to pass the time 👍
Awesome!
Awsome! I caught 291 yesterday in Medina with 7004 7007 4000 and 4602 and they picked up 6989 and 300 from the yard and made 4062 and 4000 yard power now.
Where is 7832 now?
Had fun chasing 3883 with ya hope to do it again sometime soon :)
Wow! This is criminally under viewed! Well done :)
Thank you!
Taco bell lore: (it sounds like taco bell rong)
Horns? Something that todays fans can not appreciate. (because it just doesn't happen anymore) The Leslie A200, honking away with a brace of four F7s running notch 8. Those were the days.
Nice little train, eh?
Working hard… Playing hard.. Nice job on this one !!
Only 90s' old
Same for india🇮🇳
Bnsf would suffer locomotive crisis after the diesel ends in the world. Amtrak will be in profit because of it's high speed Acela express and Siemens acs 64 on Northeast and Keystone corridor 😂😂😂
Made some trips on those when they were new a/c was not for crew comfort it was for the electronics.....
They are alllll to cold
BNSF Better Not Slip & Fall
Sounds like the engineer is having fun with 2000 and 1514's horn.
Excellent Video! Nice Catch of SARE dumping ballast!
@@buffaloarearailfan9928 Thanks! It was very cool to see!
Took a bit to find the locations on Googlemaps... cool. Any intent on visiting Youngstown (specifically the line that goes through Hubbard and into PA?)
@@tehpw7574 I don’t have any plans to visit Youngstown area at the moment, but would love to get back down there sometime soon. Tremendous. Nice variety and great cinematography.
Great work here.
NS Triple Crown trains use to be a common site through Cincinnati. They would come off the Newcastle sub from Fort Wayne, and go south on the ex Southern through Danville, KY. I believe Fort Wayne had the capability to assemble and yard roadrailer trains.
Saw one of these consists at the Tehachapi Loop while waiting for SF 3751 on it's way home from the Sacramento Rail Fair. I thought that would be the way of the future for inter-modal.
@@nerd3d-com I honestly think that it’s a much more efficient way of transportation, and it is a shame that they got rid of them.
Great video, I wasn't keen on getting the last 255 because I shot 255 at Aboite on the 24th. I was in between the two crossings at Clymers. Too hectic to do anymore chasing after Clymers for me...
@@RailfanDK2023 There were quite a bit of people out, yes. I honestly didn’t have too much of an issue. Every spot I went to there was between 4-5 people which I honestly thought there would be more of.
@@northernohiorailfanningpro8899 Clymers there was about 10 behind where u shot from. I mainly needed video of 8100's horn, that's why I pulled up last minute. I could've made another like 3 spots between Logansport and Huntington (where I reside atm) and been just fine. I would've probably done this one private crossing I know just East of Logansport, West Peru, and probably Mardenis or Sierra. However 256 being late to the extent it was, I wasn't doing anything else besides 226 and Clymers.
@@RailfanDK2023 Oh I didn’t even realize there were that many people behind me lol
@@northernohiorailfanningpro8899 there were some infront of ya behind the one building as well... I'm like the locals must be thinking why the hell is there 40 people here shooting the trains...
