Science wasn't always a science.
Over 2500 years ago, Greek philosophers developed what we now call Natural Philosophy. They tried to explain the complexity of life and the world from a secular and rational place. These thinkers came up with interesting theories about nature and reality and the origin of it all. Natural Philosophy encompassed physics, chemistry, biology, and astronomy among other fields.
This episode of This is Everything focuses on the Atomists. They were thinkers from Ancient Greece and Rome who came up with the idea of atoms as the fundamental building blocks of matter. They also came up with the concept of the void--a place where no atoms exists. This duality of matter and void is something that is seen all the way down at the atomic and quantum levels and on the macro, universal levels.
