i understand the whole idea of triplets, but im pretty sure that the tide, and them dying at 15 is just a metaphor. I dont think they actually die at 15 or get swept away by the tide but are neglected (emotionally) due to their mothers broken heart from their father leaving and because of this they grow up without any help from their parents and are "swept away" by life. The "die" at 15.
