At this point, I have more planes than I definitely need. Just a short video with a partial update. Details on the plane in case I missed any in the video, Dan Palmer plans built Shrike AeroCommander. 117” wing. Robart retracts, saito 180 4 strokes.

Modified CY 100" Dauntless

Here's a video of my dads CY Dauntless that he and my brother heavily modified. Loved flying this plane. Unfortunately this one crashed at Top Gun 2021. Just an update now that we're back from Top Gun 2022. Had a lot of fun. Now working on new projects.
what a blast from the past! When I was in middle school, 7th grade in 1983 a guy at the local flying spot had a .91 powered Mig 15 or 17. So neat to watch, and gut wrenching when it augered in from a radio hit one day, felt so bad for him. The nitro sounds so silly in a jet, but back then it was just cool factor all the way! Amazing how far things have come, but I have a nostalgia for stuff like this. Thanks for posting, so cool...

That was a great flight. I'm hoping if I ever get it done.....I blew up the plans to 12ft. Blew up Robarts gear and made those. Mine has 2 G-62 with ignition on it. I just need to work on it. Thanks again

This model is painted in 😢livery of VT-5, which flew the T-34B from late 1974 to its disestablishment in October, 1976. I was a member of VT-5 from December, 1972 until June of 1976.

nice plane! the engine and exhaust fits fully into the cowl? which prop are you using?
A helicopter without a gyro is pretty unflyable. The corrections in a plane is manageable. More skills will be learned by a pilot without a gyro than with. Crosswind landings, being easier with a gyro, Ok, but maybe it's time not to fly?
That is a nice build really nice to see people showing their skills with this stuff...
Like all the warbirds but the P-40 is my favorite Mustang 2 ,Spitfire 3.
I'm actually a corsair guy. My first 2 I muffed the folding wings. My 3rd one was the charm another local guy took the kit when I got to that phase and he got it right even mounted the servos alot better sort of at angles. The thing really soars. I had it to about 900ft is high as I will ever go with an RC especially something with 110 inch wing span.
Yeah, seems like the P-40s getting so popular, but I cannot see enough of them😎…it’s just a great warbird and gives enough space for a decent sized engine, right?
Yes... I've always loved this plane. One because it seems I have concurred to the stigma that it doesn't handle well on take offs or landings. i had 4 of them from different manufacturers and I just adore the airframe.

When you say heavily modified do you mean the plane build quality was bad when you received it? I have not owned any CY models yet but have been looking at this model and the 81" P47.
What I mean is, this plane was modified to be more scale. Way more panel lines and rivets. Scale sierra gear that had to be retrofitted.
Hey mate! U did a very good job 👏🏼 Do you remember what has to be done to this flying beauty to build it more scale? Maybe you have some pictures of the work that youve done? Looking forward to buy a dauntless too. But wanted to know if i can handle the work that needs to be done. 😅
@@A-Ronnn Nice I see that the dive brakes have been modified as the Kit is set up as dive brakes only. Was nice to see it land with the flaps down. Mine is getting a UMS 9/115 radial. The Saito does sound nice in this though.
@@szambo86 The first thing I did was cut out the retract mounts and recess them deeper into the wing so the wheels can be on the correct side of the axles. next, all the panel line detail on the fuselage was filled in and re-applied in a more scale manner to match the wing. the outer wing panels had open bay sections, so I fully sheeted them, added the wing vents, and glassed the wing. The hatch was glued on permanently and blended into the fuselage, and the Cowl had added cowl flaps and nose scoop (on the top of cowl and bottom of the fuselage) to the -3 version to add more airflow exit and air intake to route air straight to the carburetor. I also added a functional tail hook, scale exhaust and full cockpit from dbalsa. finally the wheel well hole have to be enlarged to accept a 5.5" or 6 " tire. I did a thread on rcscalebuilder in the ARF makeover forum.
Auto pilot flies a plane gyros just stabilize for a smoother flight . Real planes have gyros as well i have never understood how people think a gyro flies the plane.
The real planes I fly suck then because they do not have gyros! 😢… then again I fly small GA under 285hp.

Nothing wrong with gyros. They help you not to have to do a lot of correcting ☺
