Hey bro I did this 2 days ago. My truck stopped. Siphon all the fuel out drained it all out changes filters. Put 5 gallons of fuel cycled it changed filters again then filled it up. Then it turned over been good. I’m about to change the filters again. You think I’m good ?
You are a rare occasion. It’s typically failure of cp4/cp3 pump witch takes everything else with. So don’t say that your ways fixes it all the time. We do many fuel system jobs at my shop.
I didn't say it fixes it all the time what I'm saying is don't consider it a loss it won't cost you anything to try to save it most people just leave it let it crystallize without trying to save it.
Just yesterday, I had to drive out almost two hrs after my driver called me telling me my freight truck lost all power and started idle rough. I noticed I had a maintenance light on the dash, I pulled codes and saw SPN 94 FMI 18, 1, and another. So I figured low fuel pressure is causing all this. Then my dash alerted fuel filter in plain text. So I was confused since I just did maintenance of the filters and strainer lessthann a month ago. I decided to drain the fuel housing and pull the water separator filter out and the pumps strainer. Right when I was pulling them, I saw what looked like fiber glass, and I was in a WTF shock. This modle truck doesn't have a DEF system. My driver goes to a 711 where there is no DeF pump, just gas and diesel. So I left to pick up electrical parts cleaner and the biggest can of sea foam. I cleaned out the strainer, pump, and separator filter. Then I cleaned out both housings and inspected as best as I could to see if there was a big mass of that crap inside the Chanels. After that, I added sea foam to both housings of the pump and separator. And dumped the rest of the tank into my main tank that had 1/2 of fuel left. Crank the engine and bam a beautiful engine start. I let it idle for about 30 minutes with a few engine revs. In the meantime, I had another of my trucks swing by and start unloading the down truck into the other so they could complete the deliveries. Finally, I told my driver to start driving back to the yard we parked at, about a 2 hr drive. I was following him on my personal car and on the phone with him. He was telling me that power was back but still felt sluggish. 1 hr into our drive, and a plum of brown smoke came out the exhaust as he was throttling up on an uphill. He then called me and asked me, "Did you see that smoke?" I was like, "See it? I think I inhaled that crap" He told me that he thinks the engine is at full power now because he can feel the turbos spool faster as he throttles more. I told him to rip it and keep a constant speed of 70 MPH. Got back to the yard, and the engine was idling beautiful. I got back to the yard 3 hrs later to see how another engine start would be. It turned on beautiful again 😍 Today, I'm gonna drain the remaining of fuel and replace and inspect the filters. Also, I'm gonna install some hunting cameras i have to see who's the prick that wants the smoke.
COOL, I put in 20 lts of adblue into bobcat by mistake and it ran for 5 mins and stopped, my boss came over and said tell me you didn't put that into it and I said yep! he said it will never run again, well we drained all fuel lines, sucked out fuel from tank, cracked injectors, replaced fuel filter, filled tank with 20lt of fresh diesel. we started it up running from an ice cream container with fresh diesel in it and from the primer bulb and then moved the machine back and forth a couple of times to make sure the left over adblue was well mixed with diesel, kept machine running while the fuel tank was drained again, the fuel tank was filled to full, the fuel lines were re connected and machine was run for 30 mins and moved 12mts of soil. so far so good, my boss is pretty smart bloke and i kept my job.
G'day Peter , yes the bob-cat is running fine and it was lucky that the injectors were opened a little shortly after the incident and the fuel system was flushed out several times . Cheers .@@peterhindson3715
I almost threw up when I dumped 3 gallons into my fuel tank two weeks ago. I had to start it for just about 5 seconds so I could put it in neutral and start it down hill to roll in front of my work shop. Well I dropped the full tank of fuel ( ouch $120 worth) and drained it. Washed it out with garden hose real good. The pickup pump and lines and fuel filter on the tank. Installed it and added 3 gal of power service and a gallon of Power service 911. Mixed with 5 gal of fresh fuel. Drove it for a while then added 5 more gallons. Drove it 230 miles then added a full tank. Kept adding Power Service 1 gal per full fuel tank. Drove it another 300 miles then changed both fuel filters. Cut them open and let them dry for a few days. Not one spec of crystal any where on any of either filter. I guess I lucked out. On a side note I did it twice before on my 2011 6.7. That was at 45k miles..Only a qt or so. Just drained the first filter every few miles then changed the filters out while adding lot's of power service for a while. Traded it in at 165k and still running smooth. No issues there. On a side note. Why didn't I just call Ford to come and tow it while it was just in the tank and I hadn't started it at all? Had too many important things to be done the next day and 1 week after and another 1 week after and another 1 week after. I went for it. At that point I didn't care what happed to the truck. Either it was going to run and do that all or frig it. I now have a locking gas cap that should help.
yes def is water with amonia so any aditive will set off the sensors in the def tank . try draining it with a hose and fill it to the top to dilute the rest .
I’m wanting to buy a 2014 gmc but def is in the diesel tank and it’s been sitting for probably a year do u think if I drain the water separator and sifin fresh diesel through the fuel system it will work?
the part that is sensitive is the high pressure fuel pump . The crystals that the def form scratch it and it goes bad . Try cleaning everything and adding new fuel and 2 cycle oil in the fuel . Keep draining the water seperator every few minutes for the first 30 minutes as soon as you turn it on.
@@KingRanchW it is a good risk if they ran it and the def got in the pump and injectors and they left it there its full of crystals and it wilk all need to be replaced.
Don't get it twisted - in some (read most) diesels, even switching the key to the instrument position (without cranking or starting) can prime the lift pump in the tank and circulate contaminated fuel to the high pressure pump.
Did you drive it after you Accidentally poured it in? I poured a whole gallon and drove down the road and it died. So much I my mind I can’t believe I did this.

It’s probably a bad connection on the wire connection between light and ballast.

I did it 2 guilty 2 gallons you truck will detect water open up the filters both separators Don't start truck just acc prime until all water remove
