It is quite incredible how many talented young people there are on this planet. I wish I'd had such great knowledgeable teachers when I was an aspiring dancer myself. That ship has sailed, I'm afraid ;-)

I miss the old days when a couple danced together, not just near each other ;-P Who would've thunk it would be twice as silly for BOTH people to be looking for their next partner at the same time. lol I can't help but think this "evolution" was mostly about more teachers and coaches selling more lessons and coaching.

On 11:58 … did they dance to the music? It seems very far off rhythm. I’m not trying to be negative, I am genuinely trying to understand. It wasn’t with lyrics, or the rhythm of the waltz. Am I missing something? I understand interpreting a music piece in your own style, but then there is stepping off, beats for most of the song. it appears as if they have stepped off beat? What am I missing? I understand this is supposed to be the top level.

The way he explains the phases of the rumba/cha cha walks is really wrong. He starts by saying that high hip is wrong, then he says that its impossible to have stretched knees the whole time - yeah that is the reason the high hip exsists. In the WDSF books this is called extend, if you extend, high hip then it is possible. And you create very nice lines, bent knees are not pretty to look at, in dancing it is all about creating lines! Also he talks about turning the shoulders, which basically means twisting the waist. That is called Twist, you are not allowed to use a Twisting muscular action in Cha cha and Rumba, what is this teacher even talking about? The twisting !effect! in rumba and cha cha comes from the squeeze > settle+translation muscular action. The whole point of this is that you are dancing with your whole body, otherwise your center will look boring and unengaged. If you use Twist your technique is wrong, if you feel like you have to because the music is too fast then you are cheating and you are very wrong. Fun fact he also dances merengue wrong, there is general action called: Merengue action, this has to do again with the squeezing muscular action, which he doesn't use. Probably wrost lecture i ever saw. - This is a very wrong teacher imo.

16:00, Technical figures(the basic figures) and artistic figures should be in different proportions in the learning process. The basic figures and be artistic by adding the top artistic sway after the technical sway was done.

Sorry I disagree about shortening the Man's right side - I'd prefer to stretch the left side more otherwise there'd be a collapsed body. Also, in an upswing where the body inclines backwards, isn't this part of natural body movement?

I have a question! Why is this type of natural turn so different compared to the other natural turns I see others do? Is this version just higher technique? When the gentlemen preps, then launches his right foot toward him to the right, just before moving his left foot forward, there is indeed a pos. Why do most natural nurns Viennese Waltz don't do that? What is this version of Viennese waltz considered? Gold, silver, International or standard?

The answer and the key would be the principle of Drive. The dancers in this vid are of course international top level competitors. And at this level they ought to do this outstanding. Without drive their is no Swing. And without Swing their is no Sway. The good old if not ancient theorama in Standard dancing.
