Hey Max! Great question. At Loughborough, from the very start, all of your work is documented using Adobe InDesign to create your portfolios. It’s a professional tool widely used in architecture, so getting comfortable with it early on is really beneficial. Some people might use Canva, but I’d strongly recommend sticking with InDesign as it sets the standard for professional portfolio design. Getting into the habit of scanning and uploading your hand-drawn work regularly is also essential-it’s key for building a thorough and polished portfolio throughout your studies. Hope this helps!

At the start, there were roughly 82 students, but now it’s dropped to just under 60. That’s actually quite good compared to other universities, where dropout rates can be 50% or higher! Don’t let that put you off, though-it’s a great opportunity for those who stick with it!

Yes, it was a great experience! We were tasked with designing a poster for an architect superhero, which involved coming up with the name, concept, and visuals as a group of 4-5. It was a really creative and collaborative exercise

Great question! My personal approach to managing the workload definitely played a big role. In my first year, I struggled with time management and often left tasks until the last minute, which led to late nights. But over time, I learned to plan my time more effectively by breaking tasks into smaller chunks and setting mini-deadlines for myself. I also focused on prioritising the most important tasks and not overthinking every detail. While it’s still a demanding workload, having a solid plan and being consistent really helps

Most of what I showed in my portfolio was from my Level 3 work, so it’s definitely not cheating! It’s all about presenting your skills and creativity, so go for it and showcase your best work

@@charleslawsongilli’m going to apply for lboro in 2025 and the entry requirements said i have to make new pieces with a chosen theme . I am currently struggling to make my architecture portfolio. Do you reckon i could include some pictures from my a level stuff and alter my descriptions according to chosen theme. Also what did you appload your portfolio on?

Hi Gwen! Including some of your A-Level work is a great idea, especially if it aligns with your chosen theme. Just make sure to present it in a way that highlights your skills and creativity. You can also adapt the descriptions to show how the pieces fit your theme-it shows flexibility and thoughtfulness. As for how I submitted my portfolio, I think I put it together in PowerPoint at the time, then downloaded it as a PDF and uploaded it directly onto their portal. It was quite a while ago, so I can’t remember all the details, but that’s roughly how I did it. Best of luck with your application!

I studied an extended diploma in 3D Design & Architecture in Nottingham. I already knew i wanted to go into Architecture so i narrowed down my path earlier on. I got D*D*D*
