    • @johnwalker3263
      @johnwalker3263 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a variable because this platform was built with a rear seat recline kit installed. The platform height can be measured with a level and a yard stick off of the top of the rear seat folded. Hold the yard stick level on the top of the seat back and measure to the rear deck to get your overall height. In my second video on the subject I show a method for getting the seat height you’ll need without a recline kit. th-cam.com/video/bZX_LgfMggg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8-aX-r_0OPh_Egu2

    • @johnwalker3263

      The fridge I have is right up against the back seat and barely clears the tailgate. You might be able to squeeze the extra three inches in if you build your sleeping platform on the drivers side and install the fridge on the passenger side. The only downside is that the 2/3 seat will be in front of the fridge but it’s doable. If it fits it will be tight though so make sure to measure it out before committing on the fridge!

    • @johnwalker3263

      Justin, I borrowed the hinges from an old particle board cabinet so I would suggest looking at junk furniture if you want to hinge it. My second platform that I built and am still using isn’t hinged at all and it works better, imo. You can find that video on my channel if you’d like some more ideas. Happy to report that the black AEV cap that came with the bumper fits much better after following these instructions. I'm still not fully there, but I think I will be after another round of sanding. The red reliance cap still doesn't want to thread on, but as you said, it doesn't appear to be needed with the new AEV cap being threaded. Thanks again!

  • @shanekumpf2511
    @shanekumpf2511 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for info. Unfortunately, it seems the new red reliance cap does not thread onto the water tank. I think I'm going to have to buy a second AEV cap and modify it. That said, it seems that even the AEV supplied cap doesn't fully thread onto water tank. Did you find the same? or do I maybe have defective threading on my tank?

    • @johnwalker3263
      @johnwalker3263 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think your situation is typical. For whatever reason none of the replacement caps fit my tank as well as the original. I have the white one from the aev pump kit and a black replacement cap I just purchased from aev. They’re both hard to screw on and don’t like to seat. I suspect it has something to do with the depth of the threads, not the pitch. For what it’s worth, all three are branded reliance on the underside.

    • @johnwalker3263
      @johnwalker3263 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a little more investigating and got out some calipers. In my situation, the outside diameter of the threads on the tank are slightly bigger then the inside diameter of the cap. I suspect that if I wrapped it in some emery cloth and worked it down a bit the replacement caps I own will fit better. I’ll try that and make an update video to show what the ultimate fix is.

    I love the hinge tamers. I had Ursa Minor install them during the build. During the install I asked them why they just don't integrate them into their design as the additional cost would be minimal. The reply was that if you close the top carefully and don't leave excess bedding up top, the hinges will not damage the fabric. In ideal conditions I would agree with that, but there always comes a time, when you forget something and the hinges have fairly sharp edges and act like scissors. The only problem I have had so far is the weatherstrip on the hatches have compressed and they rattle on rough roads. Any recommendations for a better weatherstripping?

    • @johnwalker3263
      @johnwalker3263 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not an expert on the weatherstripping but I do know that the bulb seal shouldn’t be mashed flat when you close the top. If it is then you need to loosen the latches a little bit. With the seal mashed flat, the air pocket inside the bulb seal is collapsed and the seal is trapped which doesn’t allow it to be effective against the weather. The seal is fairly high quality, it just needs to be cared for. Good luck.

    • @goingoverland6403
      @goingoverland6403 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnwalker3263 The weatherstripping on the two inside hatches is compressed. I have been careful not to compress the rubber strip along the top cover. I have been traveling full time in the Ursa Minor Jeep since I got it in December.
