Join us in the much needed food quality revolution and learn how to grow, cook and preserve your own food!
Welcome to our channel and our newest venture! We are Sophie and Filipe, two food lovers, professional chefs and regenerative farmers with over 16 years of professional experience running our own farm-to-table restaurant and regenerative farm.
Because life is short and it should be full of adventure, we moved our family of 4 to Portugal, Filipe's homeland, to set up a new regenerative farm from scratch, to grow food, build soil, share our knowledge and to improve our food system's resilience.
On this channel we share our knowledge to help you get connected to your food on a deeper level. We do this by storytelling and by visiting other regenerative projects
Subscribe if you want to start growing, cooking and eating FEEL GOOD FOOD (aka chemical free, regeneratively grown, naturally preserved)! Let's do this!

Oh I so wish I would have been back when you had that regenerative course I wish I had seen it on time so that I could have learned more from you I well perhaps you’ll have more of those coming up like I said I’m 63 going on 64 but I after I lost my son I just I need I need to live life I need to do new things I need to live again it’s very hard just to stay stuck NNNI love what you all do it’s it’s it’s earth it’s it’s life it’s everything that’s good and true and real and that’s what I need I know that’s what I need but here where I live in the United States in Pennsylvania I live in Lewisburg Pennsylvania it’s a small college town and well it’s there’s none of that now it’s it’s cold it’s rainy it’s snowy but I’m just going to keep watching your videos some of them are well past but I’m learning it doesn’t matter if it’s from two years ago or a year and a half ago I’m learning and I don’t have much room but I could do something on a smaller level because my grandpa Louis I’m Italian and I’m Irish and my grandpa Louis I had a 400 acre farm in Watertown New York and he used to take me out there and I think that’s where my love of growing and gardening stems from he would take me out and he would pick the radishes right out of the ground he brush the dirt off and he feed it to me and my mother used to have a fit because we didn’t properly wash it else so what anyway I loved going with him out into his gardens and it was beautiful and it was real and it was just basic love of the land and that’s what I need to get back to it that’s what I need to heal my heart from losing my son and I just need to get going to the earth again and so I am so thankful I found you I’m so so thankful
Your grandfather sounds lovely! And I could not agree more, the love of the land and everything "basic" (food, land, shelter, family) is where the real joy is at! If you are inspired to grow, then no matter how small, just start! Tending to plants and being outside is healing, that is something I am 100% sure off. I am going o check out Lewsiburg now on google :) Just to get a glimpse of where you are at. I wish to do a travel around the states and visit farms there very much! Pennsylvania is now on the list. Sending much love!
And I can’t see the text very well so I use that that thing where you speak into it and it doesn’t always put the correct spelling as to what I’m saying so if something comes up that’s not the proper spelling know that it’s not my lack of intelligence it’s the stupid thing that goes from it’s a it’s a it’s a recording and in it and it tapes your voice and it doesn’t always write exactly what you’re saying so it’s not my lack of intelligence it’s that stinking voice to text business so I am I’m sorry about that but please just know that’s not me I’m very educated I’m a nurse I’m very educated but I can’t see to text very well so I use that that recording button and it doesn’t always spell it the correct way elf Evans
Please don't worry about the spelling, as a non native speaker I bleep up constantly! So far I understood everything!
Oh dear God in heaven I am giggling my my ass off literally excuse my language I’m 64 ration swear like that you are so refreshing to my peace of mind you are when you said that it’s amazing when you can turn a pile of shit into somethings so it oh dear God in heaven I almost just Peed my pants and honey let me tell you at my age it doesn’t take much so I laughed so hard I almost Peed my pants and that’s really humiliating but at the same time you are just like the bomb to my spirit I just love your your your straight up honesty and pureness it’s just so refreshing to me I just I just adore your honesty and you’re your bluntness and oh God honey don’t ever change you have such a good soul don’t you ever change
Hahahaha, this had me almost peeing my pants! Thank you for your wonderful joyous comment!
I can't believe your garden is growing. We are in Southern CA and nothing is growing. So frustrating!
I know it can be so frustrating. Is it too dry or too cold? We have very similar climates, but apparently not in this season... Curious to hear more!
The garden is looking so full and lush! It's beautiful!
Thank you!!!! Do you use a any plastics?
I don't see there is any problem with plastics used in farming and food industry. As far as banning the fossil fuels is nothing but a wet porn dream of the green Taliban and the climate mafia. Our greatest threat to our society are the useless politicians with their sick ideologies and their existence with their huge carbon footprint. Small farms are the future.
Small farms are the future! :D
Great video! Wonderful farm & home ❤️
Thank you!
Love seeing the updates on your farm. We agree with your views on plastics. All your fall gardens look amazing. <3 <3 How cold does it get there? I am wondering about your lemon grass... you leave it in ground over winter? I have dug mine up and moved it indoors as I don't have much of it. Just wondering how cold it can take. We live in western NY, USA near Lake Ontario.
Dear Justyn, Thank you for your wonderful comment and good question! We are blessed (and sometimes cursed, haha) with mild winters here. It gets cold, but hardly ever freezes (some morning frost here and there but little)... so we can leave the lemon grass outside (although it would do better in the greenhouse for sure, it won't die outside). We used to take them indoors when we were farming in below 0 temp (celsius). Hope that helps. If it freezes where you are, definitely take them in!!! :)
@@thefarmingchefs thank you for you quick and helpful reply. I will bring it in this week as temps will be well below freezing by next weekend. I would love to come visit your farm and participate in one of your trainings/classes, even help out on your farm. But NY is a bit of Drive/Fly/Boat to get to Portugal (I was there once when I was 18 though! My father took art tours to mostly Italy but we traveled to other European countries as well. I got to go with him on a 6 week tour. Portugal remains in my heart as so incredibly beautiful. Also Switzerland!!! and of course Italy.) Anyway, thank you again for your reply. I always smile when I see you have posted a new video. Blessing of joy, health, provision, hope and abundance be yours and your family and community. <3 <3
I love the videos where you explain the quality of soil and regenerative farming. I hope you have a play list because I watch several Portuguese channels. They really need this information, and I always refer to your channels that are planting.
@@kathydoran6176Dear Kathy, Thank you.so kick for recommending us! I will make a series on this topic! It's sprinkled though all our content. But it is good to make it into a series. The playlist growing and farming contains most of it so far! Thanks again!

Thanks Sophie! You have come to the same conclusions I have. It is all tradeoffs. I am going to try cellophane bags instead of plastic row covers this spring. I will pass on how they work. I expect they will be disposable but they break down into cellulose so that is better. Thanks again!

Thanks Sophie for another great video. Could you say something about your animals in future updates? What live stock do you recommend to rise in Portugal? Do you keep meat just for yourself or you selling as well? If you selling could you say something about harvesting, processing and selling law in Portugal? Thank you in advance
Thank you! We currently are not selling any meat to market. We produce for ourselves, our friends and family. But I would be happy to share some info on how the regulations work. You can find a lot of info on the following website: www.asae.gov.pt/legislacao1/saude-publica-e-seguranca-alimentar/carnes-e-seus-produtos-centros-de-abate-matadouros-estab-de-desmancha-e-entrepostos-frigorificos.aspx. The requierments for legal selling are quite extensive, that is why we have not yet ventured into it (plus we have plenty to doo already ;) You could send me an email at thefarmingchefs@gmail.com and I will provide you with the extensive info I have :)
