Genesis #44 - Pursuing Peace in a Hostile World
Big Idea: It is difficult to live in peace when the world is hostile. However, God makes it possible by sustaining us with His blessing.
1. Isaac demonstrates being peaceful in a quarreling world. Genesis 26:17-22
a. “Departed, encamped in the valley of Gerar, settled there.” Isaac is driven out of the city and is thrust into a wild desert valley. He complies without fighting, favoring peace.
b. Isaac claims the wells dug by his father. However, more trouble comes when locals contest the wells that Isaac digs. Though Isaac has a claim on these wells because he finds and puts in the effort for them, he doesn’t fight, again favoring peace. Romans 12:18-21
c. “Dug a well they did not quarrel over… The LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful.” Isaac persists until it becomes clear the strife ceased. Pursuing and finding peace, he glorifies God.
2. Isaac reminds us that God is with and for His people. Genesis 26:23-33
a. “Fear not for I am with you and will bless you.” Our first and greatest blessing as the people of God is His presence in our lives. He’s not distant but is instead with us and for us.
b. “Built an altar, called on the name of the Lord, pitched his tent.” God’s movement in our favor calls for a worshipful response. Part of that is settlement into regular life with God as Isaac does.
c. “Abimelech, Ahuzzath, and Phicol the commander of his army” Witnesses are brought and they plead for a treaty out of fear of Isaac. God has reversed their positions and Abimelech is now the supplicant.
3. Even though God’s promise is good, this life will never lack grief. Genesis 26:34-35
a. “When Esau was forty years old” Mirrors Isaac’s taking a wife at the same age, but negatively instead of positively. The number 40 is also often associated with judgment and condemnation.
b. He took Judith and Basemath (Hittites) to be his wives. Unlike Isaac, Esau marries pagans from outside the faithful line. It reveals the deficits of Esau’s character and his unworthiness as a vessel for God’s Promise.
c. “They made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah.” Despite God’s blessing and flourishing of them, they are grieved. Grief and blessing don’t cancel each other out. They will always run parallel until God restores all things.
d. “The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring.
Questions for Reflection
1. How have you striven to live peaceably in a hostile situation?
2. What are some tangible ways you can identify that God is both with and for you?
3. Where have you experienced grief and goodness at the same time?

มุมมอง 4หลายเดือนก่อน

Burial land was considered sacred. It’s now tim...

At All Costs: We must maintain a close relationship with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. It was God who sent Jesus into the world; this is how we have come to know Jesus. In turn, Jesus told us about God and His power and spirit; this is how we have come to know the Father. There is no such thing as one without the other, for they are one in agreement in spirit and truth. The Spirit belongs to God the Father alone, for all live unto Him (Luke 20:38). We must love, honor, and obey Jesus in all that we do for all eternity. We are to love God the Father with all our hearts, mind, and soul and serve Him only (Luke 4:8). In truth, it is not possible to preach one without the other, for by them both we must know them both.

Mothers Day is actually a story about the 144,000......First Fruits(plural) with Real Original Bodies transported or were taken alive with original bodies to the Paradise of God, were actually the 144,000 and they were all children...Why Children ?..because one of the identifying marker is: Not defiled by women and it means Children and children are Pure in Hearts and only children has this attributes..Those who get married(Adults) are always defiled by women in real sense and Children are not adults.. Children who became orphans or left by the Mother who went into Hiding from the face of the Serpent((Rev 12:14), as in Jesus left humanity 2000 years ago and we became Orphans. The Book of Revelation is a story about a Mother/Woman and the 7 Churches of Asia..The Book of Revelation was written by John together with Mary , John adopted Mary as his mother, instructed by Jesus while hanging on the cross(John 29:25-29)..The Book of Revelation is about the 7 Churches of Asia & Mary of Magdala(as in Maguindanao, Magus, Magi & Marianas trench) (Mathew 26:13, Mathew 12:42, Rev 12:14)..The island of Patmos with P as in Pateo & Promise ..The Land of so many Promises & Romances since Creation is Maguindanao.
