    I have a Merry wood from Alairwind and I love it. Found out that I physically cannot play a guitar. (shoulder problems). Funny you mention that you are getting another gurdy from Poland, I have one on order from there that hopefully will be here in November 2024. Yeah I REALLY like the adjustable bridges.

    Hey just for some help - the trompette/tirant string has nothing to do with cranking back and forth. The chien (dog) should sit flat on the soundboard and buzz when you accent the wheel (also there is no reason to un-adjust the tirant when you take the trompette string off - just leave it tightened). Adjusting the tirant changes the cranking speed required to cause the trompette to buzz. Also it sounds like you have too much string pressure on the melody bridge (chanterelles). You should be able to use the allen wrench to decrease the string pressure on the bridge. Did you order an MM Saphona for your next gurdy? Enjoy!

    Cool! Very informative.

  • @channel98747
    @channel98747 ปีที่แล้ว

    You've got the wrong idea about the purpose of the trompette and dog mate, they produce a rhythmic buzzing when you make small accelerations to the cranking speed (basically a built-in drum machine) - not to aid in a "bowing back and forth" technique. Search TH-cam for "Hurdy Gurdy Couping/Buzzing", you'll see what I mean. Also string pressure sounds a bit high, might wanna raise em up a little to get away from that creaky scratchy squeaky sound

    • @RattleClack
      @RattleClack ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for helping to clarify the strings. I tried to do my best to explain things, but I am still learning. I will look into my string pressure. It seems to have recently started to get more of a "squeaky" sound. Not sure if something changed recently. I try to keep humidity and temperatures as constant as I can. Thanks again.

    • @channel98747
      @channel98747 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RattleClack No worries. Humidity and temperature can definitely cause drastic changes in string pressure, you'll figure it all out with practice, amount of cotton on each string is also something you'll have to learn. Very, very little on the chanterelles is the general rule, thicker in the bourdons.

    One of the best cross country vids I've seen. Great music edited in. I like the fact that you took the time to experience the things on your route, so many people just blast right by what I think is the whole purpose for doing something like this. Great job brother, hope your still riding.

      @RattleClack ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I enjoyed making it as much as I enjoyed the ride. It’s hard to put almost 3 months of a ride into an hour long video, but I hope I captured the spirit of the ride. I do still ride. This is wild, although I'm wondering, how the hell do those P-pickups work? Are they custom, or is there some way to separate a set from each other? Either way, gotta love that shit.

    • @RattleClack
      @RattleClack ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I’m not sure how they work, I think they were originally meant for the neck pick up (on a 4 string) perhaps, and he separated them for this build. Maybe… I’ll have to check with him.

    • @foljs5858
      @foljs5858 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pickups don't know anything about individual strings. They can work with 2 with 4 with 6 or with 8, as long as those strings are vibrating above them. So it doesn't matter if a pickup has for example 4 magnets, you can still use it with 2 or 6 strings. The "expected" tone comes when each string is directly above the magnet, but it will still work fine (with a little change to the sound due to the extra distant / proximity) even if it's not.

    • @RattleClack

      I'm 95% sure those are dimarzio split P pickups. They designed them to be a mini humbucker on each side. Dimarzio says the pickups are 4 conductor so I assume each half has a hot and a ground. So in this application they're being used as a bridge and neck pickup like a jazz bass, but they visually match up with the 2 strings. Or at least that's what I think is going on.

      @RattleClack ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I love my bike. The only thing that I had to modify was the height of the handlebars. I added a “stem raiser” (I’m not sure if that is the proper name for it) to raise up the handle bars about 4 inches. That helped quite a bit. It’s been a solid ride.

      @RattleClack I'm within a few months of making this trek and have watched many videos. All, flats galore. I use sealant on my tires. I have a fat tire ebike with tubes and a trek marlin with schwalbe g one speeds tubeless. I had a flat with my ebike. I ran over a license plate bracket with a screw in it. Tire did go flat, but simply pulling over and airing it back up was suffice. When you pull the weapon of mass destruction out, the sealant fills the hole and the air pressure dries it. I haven't added air to that tire since then. Probably since August. Just scares me how many flats I've seen and wondered if everyone was using sealant .

    Did you use small solar panels to charge a phone, tablet and camera ?

    • @halfwheelband
      @halfwheelband 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I would typically try to charge GoPro batteries and my phone and stuff when I had electricity at campgrounds or restaurants or wherever. I would supplement with the solar. I felt that I couldn’t always rely on solar charging. Too many variables involved when you’re riding. I would try to have the panels on my bike, but they didn’t alway work, due to weather or position of the Sun vs. position of my bike. They seemed to work better, when I could set up at a camp site in a more stable location.

      I've ridden across the US & up the California coast & all I ever used is Google maps with AAA paper map backup. I've never planned any ride. I just ride. Google Maps is great. Just make sure to not erase your cache at anytime because Murphy will attack in the middle of nowhere when there's no data signal. The maps will work off of the cache until your phone regains the signal. Hope that makes sense.
