When my wife was elected to the school board, she made point of being nice to the admin staff and the janitors. When she did the union negotiations (admin, janitors, and teachers were in different unions) things went very well. It doesn't cost anything to be polite and considerate.

In 2004, my father was kind enough to co-sign for a USED car that cost $8500. I lived under his roof, and knew he would kick my bum if I didn't pay it off. I DID pay it off on time (5 yr)... and kept it on the road for another 10 years....... Eventually I DID buy a shiny new car... (not super luxury)... and paid it off myself in 5 years. Although it's 19 years old, that "First new car" is in my garage today, and I bet it will impress you at how well it runs and drives. I'm actually fixing up the cosmetics on it now, so it looks a bit younger. Thanks dad for teaching me to APPRECIATE what I can afford.... and helping me that first time... As well as teaching me to maintain my own car.
