2015 Mitsubishi outlander sport rough idle need help with diagnosis.
This is a 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport 2.0 es 2wd. It has about 59k miles on it. It has developed some sort of idle problem when it comes to stops or at park. Plugs have been replaced Mass air flow has been replaced. I have been unable to find any vacuum links to my knowledge this car does not have an idle air control valve. And supposedly from what I read online the idol is controlled by the computer.
There is no check engine light. Previous shop said it was a bad Schrader valve in the air condition they replaced that it had no effect on the terrible idol. I'm out of ideas and I really do not want to have to take it to mitsubishi... any help is appreciated.

Just to let you know that Mitsubishi you have to change the throttlebody so it will work. I’ve changed mine twice almost every year. The throttle bodies are very acceptable to failure.

check the pcv valve. Its an easy fix. parts are cheap. Sparkplugs can be immersed in oil. Change those if not done within 100,000 miles. Easy fix. You can clean throttle body.

Wife's 2015 had exact same issue. Cleaned TB w/o removing it (spraying TB cleaner and cleaning with rag as deep as fingers will go until no more dirt on rag). No more rpm dipping.

I had the same problem with my Outlander 2011 at 170k km, it would frequently cut out at the traffic lights. I followed the advice below and it worked like a charm. However I battled to start afterward and I think that it is because I sprayed a lot of cleaner in the intake port. It is probably best to spray onto a cloth and then wipe inside the port.

I’m having a similar problem but mine only does it when the max AC is on and I’m parked or stopped. The compressor is also making a tick tick noise. When I’m driving it’s fine though. Also if the AC is off, if I turn off the max AC or if the heat is on it won’t do that even if parked or stopped. Only when parked or stopped with max AC on. And no check engine light or won’t read any codes either. Anybody else have that problem?

We also had this issue in a 2015 RVR with the 2.4 liter engine. The engine was hunting for correct idle (surging up and down) in drive while stopped at a light or red. Never a problem while moving or parked. The check engine light would come on and the two codes we got were VVT solenoids, intake and exhaust. I first took these out and cleaned and tested them with a 9-volt battery; they both worked fine. Next, I found this thread, and I cleaned the throttle body around the butterfly - where there was indeed black buildup preventing it from fully closing - with carb cleaner and a rag. I also sprayed the mass air flow sensor from in there. Four days on and it seems to have worked. Thanks very much all for your comments and to the original poster for this thread. Saved us a lot of money and time - and headaches. Cheers

I've taken mine to 4 different shops... 2 soaked me and one told me they don't work on Mitsubishi vehicles while the Fourth one suggested I take it to the Mitsubishi dealer and have them diagnose the problem...After 45 minutes in the Mitsubishi shop, they tell me it's a few things they were able to diagnose with their fancy diagnostic machine... They were pretty confident that the problem was solved... Less than a week and it's acting up again... If the Mitsubishi techies can't fix it, who can?????🧐😵

Thank you very much. My Mitsubishi outlander is doing the same thing. It’s a 2015. I’ve changed both O2 sensors and I cut out the cat and weld it in a new one myself that was fun, I wish I would’ve known about the throttlebody lol I’m gonna give that a shot now. Still shutting off and idling funny thanks a lot guys and yeah, come on Mitsubishi give us a fix, I called the Mitsubishi dealer. They acted like they didn’t know anything about it, and I had to bring it in for them to diagnose it even though I told him all the symptoms ridiculous

I had the same problem so I guess I'll chime in. I changed MAF, coils, plugs, cleaned the throttle body but still had the issue. Some days it didn't have rough idle and other days it was so bad it would die at stoplights. So I went for the EGR valve and when I got it off I realized I should have started there. This valve was caked up so bad I couldn't clean it, unless I took it all apart. But I replaced it, and yeah it wasn't cheap, about $360. But I got the car back together, took it for test drive and it's been running great for the past 3 months. Just hit 91K. If you have this problem I would suggest starting there, it's a tight spot but 2 bolts and a pigtail. Worst case if it's clean at least you know that expensive part is ok.

So I'm gonna try to respond to some of your comments about the rough idle...so I plugged a autolink to my mitsubishi outlander sport and it gives me a p0145 code which means a air sensor and so I replaced the sensor and it ran like new and then it came back. I put the autolink back on and it's the same code. So I did research to find that there is a computer problem and it needs to be updated by mitsubishi dealer...check for yourself.p0145 code. Btw the code says permanent you can't erase it until the computer is updated.

This happened to my 2015 Outlander at roughly 75k miles, and again at 180k. My engine built up a carbon ring inside the throttle body, I am guessing the carbon keeps the butterfly valve from fully closing, throwing off the air mixture. I cleaned the throttle body at 75k and it fixed it, and again at 180k.

THE FIX! Im the original uploader to this video. I lost access to this account. The fix turned out to be what many others have stated it's the throttle body. Which is hard to believe after a couple shops couldn't figure it out. Luckly one here in town did, They took the throttle body off and cleaned it, however IF you take it off on a mitsubishi you also have to reprogram it. So try cleaning it 1st, if that doesn't work you will need to reprogram it which consists of pushing the gas pedal in-and-out so many times So the ECU can relearn the throttle position, theres steps to it, but I'm sure the steps of a TB relearn are online somewhere. So I can't say for sure if cleaning it or reprogram it is what fixed mine but definitely one of the 2 did, but from the looks of others comments cleaning it alone seems to have done the job. Good luck everyone.

Everyone it is the alternator I just diagnosed mine today when the idle starts fluctuating hook up a voltmeter to the battery and you can see a drop in 211 V then back up to 13 V end it happens when there’s a load on the electric system and then the alternator starts intermittently going out therefore that causes the idle to fluctuate…
