TinyBoatFishing is a channel by and about an ordinary everyday retired couple's outdoor pursuits. We're located in and fish the central Ohio, Newark area. Formerly from Meigs county, Southeast Ohio down on the river. We are Sonya and Ken. We love the outdoors, fishing in our 1988 14 foot Gamefisher Vbow and bank fishing. We are also avid tent campers. We are pretty old school in our activities. Use Zebco reels, older techniques, will be using cane poles in some episodes. We'll be showing the not so good and good events and outings. The dull with the exciting. There will be conversation in the videos, not just few second cuts of catches. Keeping it real life. No slick professional produced vids. Just real life fun. Share with someone you know who might be interested. Check out our other channel Tent Camping With The Old Folks. THANKS! tinyboatfishing@gmail.com

Always a treat to see Sonya. Looking forward to lots of videos featuring both of you on your TinyBoat in 2025.
Really nice stocking stuffer!
Yes it is. Thanks! ;)
She is so beautiful
She blushing said Thank You!
Thanks for the update. I fish here regularly so I understand this. The care taker acts more like a security guard and it's honestly quite hysterical to me. No one is above state law and Ohio has strict laws on Hunter and angler harassment: "No person shall purposely prevent or attempt to prevent any person from hunting, trapping, or fishing for a wild animal. A person who is or may be reasonably affected by the prohibited conduct can seek an injunction." Contact your game warden and let the parks and recreation know that since this has not stopped, you are working with the game warden to resolve.
The weather definitely played havoc with the fishing this year, but you both still did well, and Sonya caught her PB catfish! You also did some interesting exploring in the woods. I believe that, more importantly, you are spending your recreational time together, and creating memories.
It was a weird year weather-wise. And of all things I couldn't place why there weren't any lake trips in June until I remembered the detour. lol. I've got to the point there are trips I don't wet a line but am quite content to just be there. The woods walk- we're gonna find an easier access way down to that old bridge yet. lol. We like the woods. Countless miles and days backpacking in the Blue Ridge, No measuring how much time in the 10 acres of woods of our 13 acres before we moved here.
We got out as much as ever but it was a slow year again. Where we had been getting around 1200 a year we'll be lucky to hit 500 this year. Was only around 600 last year. So yeah, the last couple years have been off for us too.
Fantastic numbers!!! Nice! If we didn't goof off so much ours would be more impressive. Nothing like yours I'm sure but better than we have. Year ago I used to "angry fish." Looking back it was pretty aggressive. Then I realized I really wasn't having fun at it but just driving too hard to catch.
We, the couple friends and I, hit Buckeye a few times and didn't do any good worth mentioning. A couple others I know also said it was off for them there also. It was a strange year. Water? Weather? All of the above? I don't ever expect much at Dillon and was not disappointed there.
INCREDIBLE! BOTH rods and reels, wow! Great video, folks!
We should have played the powerball on the way home after that. I went in 100% expecting to find nothing to be honest but she wanted to try. I stood humbly corrected. lol
@@tinyboatfishing1 Good for Sonya, wanting to try retrieving the rods n reels. She had to feel absolutely terrible when the accidents happened. Give yourself credit for knowing where to steer the boat. If you ever get tired of beng retired, you could run a deep sea salvage operation! Delighted that the story had a happy ending!
The best 2 person tent I have ever used. Still load mine on the Old Harley on a regular basis. Purchased mine in about 1994.
Bought this one in 1994 also. It was a late fall/early winter purchase for the colder weather season.
I love the precision in your work
It's annoying that these municipalities and park districts are so quick to lock the restrooms. 2024 has to be one of the worst fishing years in memory, due to the extreme weather fluctuations from spring flooding to summer drought. 2025 has got to be better!? Thanks for another interesting video. We appreciate you both. Stay safe!
They're chocking down the regular citizens trying to control the homeless and drug problems while doing little if anything to address those problems. Oh we hope next year is better weather. This was about the oddest year weather-wise I remember. First half of the year was deluges and the last half was dry as a bone. There was a period in between that the water was good for fishing then it got low, still and hot.
@@tinyboatfishing1 I hadn't thought about the homeless and the druggies. I don't have much sympathy/tolerance for either group. Drive past any factory and retail establishment, and there are always signs that say "We're Hiring/Will Train". Get off their collective lazy ass, and go to work.
@@Pappylachia Same here, nearly every convenience store, fast food joint and on up have signs out from $15 an hour and more with shift differentials. I have no sympathy either. This town/city has catered to, ignored and curtailed the rest of us to passively smooth over the problem. Removing park/downtown benches, keeping restrooms locked, restricting hours and so forth and the only ones who are impacted are those of us who are not the problem. I am not one of Newark's favorite sons for constantly pointing these things out.
@@tinyboatfishing1 I support your efforts. Stay strong.
Congrats on your fish, Sonya--Large or small, God creates them all. Nice that you let him live to fight again. Thanks for another fine video!
I'm already looking forward to next Spring.
You and I both!
Welcome to the minivan family, btw!
Thank you! A few years ago we had a roadtrip planned. Rented a car thru Enterprise. When the day came to pick up the rental they couldn't get the size we wanted in and bumped us up to a minivan at the same reserved rates. After a few hundred miles it was clear to me a minivan was truly a possibility should opportunity present itself. We're quite happy with it now. It's pretty cool.
Hi guys!
HI!!! How are you and yours doing? Hope all is well. Missing your videos!
Nice video. You did well, considering the summer-long drought. A larger plot next year should make for some interesting non-fishing videos, and lots of tasty and healthy eatin'!
This was truly an odd weather year. All the rain we had all spring into early summer and then the heat and dry. We've ate fresh tomatoes all year lol.
Always sad when the boat is done for the season. Hoping the weather is more stable and the fishin' n catchin' is much better in 2025.
We'll be out bank fishing awhile yet. No matter what this year seemed stacked against us. First half all that heavy rain and the second half just seemed to be, well, just evaporated? Definitely going to have a different better plan of attack next year. But we;ll be wetting lines for awhile yet. 😉
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band...wish what passes for music today was even half as good.
Oh you and I both. We have a local station, 101 point something that plays _mostly_ the 70s and 80s rock and does pretty good. I don't think it's a big power output station as one doesn't have to go far to be out of range. And it is located deep in this Newark valley. And- the one thing I have against the Sienna, the radio antenna is embedded in the back window and it doesn't do that great at times. We're by far not the only grandparents to pick up kids there. But we're the coolest based on hearing everyone's radios. ✌🤣
@@tinyboatfishing1 Far Out! 😎😎😄
BG loved seeing Abby outdoors
Baby girl wanted to give you a sub much love from us keep it up my bg got hurt so we are behind on filming bless you all keep it up .
Thank You!
It certainly has been a tough year for recreational fishing, boat and bank both. Even worse for the farmers. Glad it finally rained last night. Hoping the forecast for rain this week proves true. I like when you drop in the overhead views from google earth; puts things in perspective and adds interest. All of your episodes are fun to watch.
It's been a weird year for sure. Endless monsoons first half of the year and then that lovely triple digit indexes when it stopped raining. Several folks I keep in touch with in different areas of the state did not do well either. Yes! Rain! Not sure how much we got last night, it wasn't enough in the long run but it was great. Dust, allergen, pollen has been rocking me in this dry spell. Hopefully the rain settled some of it.I look at all these fields of corn and soy around here and they were all really stunted.
Thanks for another enjoyable video!
Thank You!!! It wasn't productive at all as far as fishing goes but it was a great day out.
NE Ohio No appreciable rain for weeks and weeks. No rain in the forecast. West Branch Reservoir is down 4-feet, plus.
Same here, we've had maybe two events that sprinkled so lightly that they never fully wet the sidewalks and no rain in the forecast either.
fun times
I 'd recommend a 24 foot pontoon boat, 8 feet wide; will give you a stable platform whether you're motoring down the lake, or still fishing/drifting. Pontoon boats also allow you to stand and stretch your legs and move around. A bimini top has advantages in that it can be raised or lowered, but the canvas does deteriorate over time, and will have to be replaced. A permanent aluminum top will last as long as the boat itself, but will restrict you from going under low bridges. And if your primary use will be fishing and camping, you won't want a lot of built in deck furniture. The price of new pontoon boats is ridiculously high, but there are plenty of pre-owned boats available. Just make sure the plywood deck is sound, or you'll be paying to have a new deck and carpet installed. The pontoons also get dirty, and will have to be pressure washed, ideally at the end of each boating season; used to cost about $100, back in the day--probably will run you at least $200 these days. The other consideration is trailering and storage. My late bride and I spent so many happy days on ours, on Piedmont and Clendening lakes in east central Ohio. Beautiful memories. One of the very best purchases of my life. I hope you two pull the trigger on a pontoon boat; it will give you a great platform for your future TH-cam videos.
Man, you need some rain.
At this point it would need to rain for a week to make a dent. It's drier than anyone remembers.
I love walking down behind the basket over there to a laydown that I can wade out to and climb up on. not a bad little spot
That's the most water I've seen in the Licking since the earlier in the year rains stopped. We are going to be checking that area out even more pretty soon.
The color of water affects how far the sun shines through it too.
I can't believe I didn't know that before now. Always assumed it was the size or surface area? But still didn't know that difference guessing that was it even.
Thank you for the education!
You guys get any rain yet?
Not as yet. Had a tease of a sprinkle a couple nights ago.
I wonder how good the fishing is at the dam with water level like it is.
I aim to try it this week, with those low levels the pools that exist is bound to have some fish in them. Right?
Lucky you didn't open your door! California Roll the red light in a 200k rig that's wild!
Yep! That's about the fastest California Roll I've ever seen.
Just one year ago, episodes 120 and 121 showed the swollen north fork of the Licking river, due to the monsoon rains. Thanks for documenting both conditions.
Even this spring into June we had monsoons and area flooding. I had a feeling when the spigot turned off it would be a dry one.
The Fall youth fishing derby is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 7, one week from today. Wonder if they'll cancel due to the low water level at TJ Evans?
Sad to see the ponds so low. Hope you get some rain soon. Nice to see you both. Thanks for uploading the video.
Airshow at Heath Airport if this was from the Past Weekend
I had forgot all about the airshow.
Interesting, but bring back Sonya! 😟🙂
She's not far. ;)
You guys get out today?
We did not. Had every plan on it but discovered I have a broken frame on the old trailblazer. Spent the weekend shopping and buying a new vehicle and decided it was probably best to not tow with the old one in the meantime.
Now that's a nice hat!
Thank you!
Yeah, routine is what does it. I have all my stuff in a specific spot in my garage. I load it and go. But if something wasn't put back there, I don't notice it. That's what gets you.
Yes, we have a routine. Checklists for checklists even. Once in awhile everything gets so automatic that one doesn't realize something is amiss when like yours one doesn't pick up on something out of place or missing.
I'm glad to see you got the life jackets secured. I HATE when I forget stuff. It really bothers me.
Me too. Last year we forgot some important things on the one camping/fishing trip. Wrecked the whole trip for me even tho the camping part was good to go, still forgot some important things.
very good like ok bro😊
Thanks for another enjoyable video. You two be careful, and keep an eye on the weather, if you go out tomorrow.
We did not get to go out. A rather unexpected thing came up and concentrated on a replacement vehicle instead. We have found such a replacement and taking delivery on Tuesday afternoon. ;)
@@tinyboatfishing1 Congratulations on your new vehicle!
Nice way to shoot a quick video!
Last minute opportunity. Missing your videos!!!
Hahaha, yup, it happens to the best of us. 😂😂😂
One of the worst dud/skunk days ever. lol.
@@tinyboatfishing1 had one of those going myself yesterday. I tied on a whopper plopper at the end of the day out of desperation. Then BOOM! I caught one that had a mouth the size of a saucer. It was mammoth.
Had 2 bass swimming back and forth at my feet, about a pound each. They were annoyed when I dropped a bait in front of them. Ungrateful things anyway. lol.
@@tinyboatfishing1 ingrates!
Very thoughtful gift! Now perhaps we'll get to enjoy a new 'Camping with the (not so) Old Folks video this autumn? Nice tradition, taking your granddaughter fishing on the final day of summer vacation.
After fishing pull the cap off and spray with wd40…
No doubt a good solution. WD40 works great on rust prevention on everything else.
Downloaded to watch in camp!
looking forward to your camp video!
I carry an oversized duffel bag full of everything. I will need to keep me legal. I keep it right beside my tackle bag.
We're usually quite thorough and overkill on the safety and required items. Usually. A couple little well intended snafus caught us short this time.
@@tinyboatfishing1 Everybody has days like that where sh*t just seems to be the word of the day. Funny how they often seem to string together though one after the other. I usually just power through them, unless something in my gut really tells me, just go home.
@@TNAROHfan This was truly one of those days where one thinks nothing more could go wrong- and yet it does. lol.
I was there last week for some night fishing. my wife caught a 2lb cat and a 6lb carp. I got skunked.
That's a great little lake. I prefer night fishing there over day. And there are some nice fish in there. Congrats to your wife! And I've been skunked by my wife a time or two there also. lol.
Thanks for posting, hard to find any comments on this model tent! I hope you are ok, that was a bit of a scary experience you shared. By the way, have you ever had it out in the rain?
You are right, finding anything on this model is scarce. We have had it in the rain and it's quite watertight and holds warmth well in cold weather. The only thing we haven't used it in is snow because getting a good snow at the right time when able to go camping has eluded us.
