I tend to have the opposite problem as you - my first row is always looser than subsequent rows. Since your first row tends to be tighter, you might try using a larger hook for the first row, then switch to the correct hook size for subsequent rows. (Since my problem is the opposite of yours, I do the opposite - I start with a smaller hook and then switch to the correct size.) I’m glad I found your channel. I enjoyed watching your video. I'm also starting to prepare making christmas gifts. Last two years I've procrastinated on making them until the last week and then stressed about it a lot. This year I'd like to do them at least in November if not earlier🥲😌

When I have to chain over 200 or even 150 i use stitch savers every 25 chains.

You should try learning how to do foundation crochets :) You pretty much make the chain and single crochet/double crochet row at the same time, I find it helps tension and it's easier to count if you get lost easy (I do hehe)

I used to have the issue where my chain was tighter than my rows, and sizing up half a hook size just for the chain really helped me when I had that issue!!

i love the realness about being a perfectionist to get the coasters the same size 😭 glad im not the only one.

I don't know if you know, but instead of trying to control your tension with your hands, you can size up and down with your crochet hook to make those coasters smaller and larger. Using a larger hook will make it more loose and drapey and using a smaller hook will make them tighter and stiffer. Also, I say ramen like "rAH-men". :D Also I like the idea of your giftees picking their own projects instead of you making random stuff that they don't want. Cool!

Love the video, it turned out great, happy crocheting🧶, I have only recently started crocheting and have I learned to have patience and many learning lessons already but I will never regret starting, my grandma used to do crochet so I’m going to get some of her things so this craft is very special to me, I made two boleros/shrug with the same tutorial and i was able to understand it.Have a good weekend ❤you got a new subscriber 🎉
