Vintage Kirby Model 519 (1959) Bag Dump!!
After completing my Whole House Cleaning, I empty the contents of my Kirby's cloth bag. Not too bad considering I did a heavy-duty cleaning with my newer Kirby and Royal upright a couple of weeks ago.

To save money on disposable bags, and because I'm curious to see what it picks up, I am returning my old Kirby to shake-out form. I am preparing this machine for a Whole House Cleaning video. As soon as it is assembled, I will vacuum my house and show the contents of the bag when finished.

l have never seen a vacuum with a bag, nice you don't have to empty the bag and breathe lots of dust yourself!
Yeah, this is the original setup. You vacuum and empty out the dust and dirt. But, it was temporary. I switched to back to using disposable bags and put the bigger, darker wheels on it. It is more convenient and sanitary.
Your little dog doesn't mind, he is very well behaved!
He loves getting a bath and having the hairdryer used on him, too.
Thats a big pile considering you just deep cleaned. I watched all videos and i love how you can just lift these up and vacuum the chairs and couches. They are such versatile little units!
Yeah, they are amazing. It easily squeezes under those kitchen chairs and, yeah, I can easily lift it onto the couches, chairs and beds.
Nice video ❤ 🙌🏼
Hey, there! Thanks a lot! 🙂
Nice to see the foam, l wish I had a wet vacuum, I had one but it smelled of burned rubber and stopped sucking anything so l sold it on eBay for £1, then a friend told me he could have repaired it!!!
The Kirby uses a ''dry foam'' technique. The suds are blown onto the rug and the large brush roll works them into the carpeting. The suds don't over-soak the carpeting and it dries pretty fast. If you have good ventilation, or if you clean your rugs outside like me, it's roughly two hours for it to be bone dry.
@@mattjones7621 It is impressive! l do like to see a good carpet cleaning, it is very exciting when they are muddy and the cleaning removes a lot of the tint on the pile.
@@Cleaning-de-la-maison-hb2mk Yeah, I love a good carpet cleaning video, myself. People have their choice of vacuums, but Kirby will always be my favorite brand because they can do it all. They have a channel on here if you care to see their machines in action: www.youtube.com/@kirbyvacuums/videos
This little hoover is singing loudly! What do your family think of the vacuuming channel?
They really haven't said either way. The reason the Diamond Edition Kirby was louder was because it was in hose mode and because I had the dirt meter on it. The dirt meter does restrict airflow, but it will show you what is in your rugs and furnishings when you remove the pad.
@@mattjones7621 yes, I saw the pad at the end, there was plenty of dust. I must do mine but as l use a pad on top of the mattress it makes it a bit awkward . I am glad they don't mind! Have you done videos vacuuming lots of stuff? I was watching a person's vacuuming channel who set up her channel at the same time as l did, in may, she doesn't show her face (there must be a market for face- less videos) but she vacuums huge amounts of stuff, shiny confetti, grey fluff from cushions, and more mountains of colourful little bits. It is interesting to watch the views on her videos are massive, but I find the content not exciting enough for me, I like variety. I will get some stuff to vacuum some time though, to build the channel quicker as it would be nice to make some money out of it . All that to say that if your want more people, this is the trick .. Vacuuming lots of stuff, rubber balloons seem popular as well. But you are more serious with your vacuums, do you want to monetise at some point or are you happy as you are? I am happy on my other channel to be as it is, l don't want that to change but the cleaning channel would be fun if there was more on it. To be paid for cleaning, great!!
@@Cleaning-de-la-maison-hb2mk There seem to be a lot of channels where people are vacuuming these days. Seems like a lot of women like vacuuming up huge messes like confetti, coffee grounds, cereal, etc. Most of us guys like to show off our vacuum collection and demonstrate how they perform. Anyway, I am somewhat low-key, because I don't put out too many videos. If I have opportunities to make them, I will.
@@mattjones7621 your interest in vacuuming is genuine, I guess us women do it more as a way to make money out of TH-cam(if we get there!!) and also maybe to get attention, I am not sure about that for those who don't show their faces, it can't be attention seeking. Or maybe they are lawyers and high profile women, maybe Brigitte Macron has a vacuuming channel in TH-cam, I would like to see her feet, she had shoes size 13 apparently, enormous feet, many of us think she is a bloke with a wig on. Hey wig is pretty fake looking, and all that make-up to make her look like standard magazine female figure...
Nice to see some of your videos again. Love that Dirt Devil Handvac. Is that new mini emptor the one that’s making your Kirby sound a bit different? It feels like it’s louder. And I’m sure this thing would have about the same airflow as the (2011) Sentria model.
Yeah, the new mini emtor is a huge improvement! It not only provides better airflow, but it seals tighter than the old one did.
I really like this noise :-) It is really Relaxing and Soothing for me :-)
Yeah, vacuum sounds can be calming. They used to put me to sleep when I was a baby.
Your man cave looks very good! It doesn't really look like I imagined a man cave, full of mess and dirty greasy tools everywhere
Thanks! The man cave is the inside part whereas this is the deck out back. However, we don't have a bunch of greasy tools or junk like that in it, true. The tools are in our barn/shed area. We have mainly recliners, books about sports, cars and pictures and bobble heads of The Three Stooges, lol.
@@mattjones7621 you are all very organised, it is good to see! Nothing better to light up creativity than a tidy space to make lots of mess in
Still my favorite of all your vacuums! Sounds great, and it really sucks up that rug without over agitation. And Lord knows it looks so good outside, the tan and brown look stunning!
It will always be my favorite machine. I love all of them, but this one tops them all.
Man you can hear that thing just connect to the rug and vibrate every bit of dust out!
Yeah, I didn't even have to adjust it that time. The nozzle sealed almost immediately when I turned it on.
Your partner is very lucky to have you with such interest in those Kirbys and vacuums! Great work
That's sweet of you, but I'm not married. I live with my parents, two brothers and five animals 🙂
@@mattjones7621 the person you aren’t with doesn’t know what she is missing! I bet you are appreciated by your family though. 5 animals, that is many to look after! I only have my poorly hen, and my landlords dogs who come and visit in case l have left bones in the pigs bowl which dogs aren’t supposed to eat …( new prohibition of giving cooked bones to dogs, and not just chicken, from idiotic ‘vets’ on the internet which my landlady has read and believed…when dogs have eaten cooked bones for millennia)
@@Cleaning-de-la-maison-hb2mk We all kinda help each other. Yeah, it would be kinda nice to be married. I don't know about chicken bones, but I do know that ham bones are dangerous. One contributed to the death of one of our dogs (Sammy) in 2015. It splintered apart and punctured his insides. My parents felt terrible about it, because they were the ones that gave it to him. It could be possible they don't want to chance bones anymore but, yeah, I remember dogs eating real bones long ago.
@@mattjones7621 oh poor Sam, was he an older dog or young? So, it is true ? How strange ! Thank you for sharing this
@@mattjones7621 I am sure you will meet the person of your dreams soon, when you are both ready!
What a good-looking machine!
Thanks! I have had it since 2010, but I did rebuild it last year.
Excellent 😊
Hey, man! Thanks a lot! It did a great job.
Nice one 😊
Thanks, again! More videos are on the way.
Sounds and looks great! These shampooers really do work well when properly used.
Yeah, it did a great job cleaning and grooming the rug. I am 99% sure this is the first time I shampooed this particular rug and I have had it since 2019.
Ah...arent you also known in some vac circles as "Kirby Person", who loves those inflated dust bags ?
No, that's not me. But, I do know who you are referring to.
You are a professional with vacuums!
Thank you! I try to take care of them as best as I can 🙂
@@mattjones7621 it is great to see someone who cares, rather than be drowned in consumerism society which tells us to buy a new one every two years
@@Cleaning-de-la-maison-hb2mk Yeah, that's one thing I love about Kirby vacuum cleaners. They are, literally, made to last a lifetime. Miele, Sebo, Lindhaus and Numatic are made to last a long time, also, but I guess I'm old-fashioned and lean more towards Kirby.
@@mattjones7621 I haven’t heard of Kirby vacuums, no wonder you love it if it is made to last ❤️
@@Cleaning-de-la-maison-hb2mk They have been around since 1914 in America, but it took awhile for them to arrive in the UK. I believe the first Kirby to arrive in the UK was the Classic Omega made from 1973-1975.
Most modern bypass vacuums can't even handle a handful of pine needles.
You're right about that. All three of my machines have a direct-air motor and they can easily handle huge messes like this.
Found an old Kirby at the thrift store today. I think my modified Dyson is intimidated by the beast.
Cool! Which model? There's no doubt that old Kirby will intimidate the Dyson.
Does the royal have a straight bladed fan or a curved blade fan?
Amazing! I personally prefer to see the slider move a bunch on some of mine because I am nostalgic for that look specifically, although having a shorter throw set up on the yoke is far better for performance as demonstrated by how beautifully your machine performs. Amazing!
I changed up the transmission and hubcaps since this video. I prefer the older transmissions because not only were they built better, but they really take off when adjusted correctly. I can barely touch the handle on my Diamond now and it takes off. It's smooth as butter.
These older models are beautiful for display. I don't find myself using my D50 as often as my other machines, but it has a rebuilt motor and a like new yet slightly warped brush roller because I forgot to take the belt off before storage. I was so scared of wearing out the carbons on it after I first rebuilt it because I saw how low they were, but they were available for a reasonable price on Ebay, so I took some initiative and replaced them. It is a beautiful machine and irreplaceable! Coming up on its 60th birthday, although you couldn't tell based on how it sounds. You have a lovely machine, and I'm glad to see that it is well taken care of.
Thanks, man! I recently made some upgraded to it. It has a new cord, bigger wheels and I converted it to use disposable bags. A friend had a seamstress put a zipper in a spare bag I had and I ran a Heritage 2 fill tube and top adapter through it. The mini emtor shaved a little weight off, so it's even lighter to use. The old single-speed Kirbys are extremely durable. You can't wear them out. They do need bearing service and carbon brushes after extreme use, but it takes awhile for the carbons to burn down since the motors run slower than the later models. The D50 is an amazing machine. You'll have it for life.
I appreciate how you don't try to make it look completely original. The modification I like to do for the sake of the motor is to replace the exhaust vent on the side with one that isn't partially blocked off. I'm sure it does very little to help, but with all the gossip about motors overheating, I prefer to play it safe. My g7 is currently set up all original, so I might do some of these modifications! I have a lot of Kirbys, though, so I'm at no big loss if anything bad happens. I also have 3 of these motors laying around because they're fun to experiment with. Thank you for the video! I like hearing about people modifying things to suit their needs more effectively, rather than being overly sentimental.
I love all of my machines and I kinda wanted them to have their own unique look. I love making improvements to them any way I can. I was inspired by Hank's Garage to rebuild my Diamond like his. The only differences are the bag topper and wheels. I used Sentria wheels and his topper is black. I had issues with the transmission and I got tired of replacing gear parts, so I used an early G7 transmission. No more issues since then. I think the early transmissions are better than the later ones. Not saying their are junk, but the newer ones seem to wear faster than the older ones.
Wow incredible. Looks the same as my 1963 sanitronic 7 on my channel. Great video.
Thanks! It has been upgraded since this video. It has a new cord, wheels and a disposable bag system.
Model 523. Great find!
Thanks! It's a great machine. We use it on a daily basis to clean up after our animals.
@@mattjones7621 The second speed is more effective when using the hose.
@@ClassicTVMan1981X Yeah, and the low speed is great for loose blankets, lightweight rugs and even long curtains.
That massage cup worked great! And the dog loved it, some dogs freak out but yours had a hay day. Lol the diamond looks and sounds great, they are such a beast in hose mode compared to vintage units.
Yeah, that massage cup tool is amazing on pet hair. It's just as fast to use it instead of the Zipp brush. Woodrow loves being vacuumed, but he hates getting a haircut.
That Diamond Edition sounds more like a Sentria with that newer style mini emptor. Does it have more airflow with that mini emptor? And the original emptor and outer bag is not available?
The airflow is a bit better, but what I love about the new mini emptors is that they seal A LOT better compared to the original ones. Yes, the Diamond bag is still available. The bag on mine is brand new. The only differences are that they put a straight, black zipper in them and the rubber on the bottom is black now.
He looks like he likes it. Love him!
Hey, Denise! Oh, yeah, Woodrow loves being vacuumed, especially with the massage tool. He likes getting a bath, too. However, he doesn't like getting a haircut.

can a box of kirby classic attatchments work on a 516 ?? like the hose and nozzle ?
Yes, as a matter of fact. I once had a Classic 3 hose for my 519 when it had red trim. Regardless of model, whether new or old, attachments will fit on the hose end.
❤
I love the pine smell that comes out of these dirty air vacuums after Christmas gets cleaned up!
I do, too. I also love the smell of cinnamon coming from a vacuum, too.

That is the model number. This particular model 2028 was built in October of 2002.
wow this does really well!
It's awesome! I highly recommend it if you have mostly carpet.
This is excellent
Thanks! It's a heavy-duty machine!
I really enjoyed this! ❤
Thank you! Glad you took the time to watch🙂
What a handsome and powerful unit!! Great video it most certainly brushes up that rug nicely. The rpm's are quite impressive.
Thanks, man! Yeah, the agitation is amazing. Even though the other two could handle this mess, also, the Royal is better picking up bigger debris.
I just wish that they didn’t discontinue this machine if they did because I’ve heard from some people that they did. This machine possibly does have the most amount of airflow and agitation. Especially with the brushroll that has the bristle stiffeners!
Yeah, they are great machines. It makes mincemeat out of bigger debris.
I love Royal machines especially the 4000 model because of the color scheme. The burgundy color really suits the machine. :)
Blue looks good on a Royal, too. I used to have some 880s a long time ago. They were sky blue and ran really quiet.@@brentcho1275
Yes. Those are really cool as well. I really love how quiet they were back then. Very pleasant to listen to.
What year was your Kirby Dual Sanatronic 80 made in?
It was a 1969 model. I no longer have it, but it was a great machine. I sold it to someone around Christmas of 2015.
Yea Man i love it! You got both your Kirby's looking soooo sharp! I truly dont know of they can get any better, seriously i love those wheels it looks very proper. It all matches perfectly, and looks masculine. It would be the perfect candidate to make an updated brave little toaster movie. I agree the bag you have is far superior to the h2 bag looks wise. Great job!
Thanks, again, for all of your help, man! Couldn't have done it without you. Very pleased with both machines. It's like having two new machines.
Man that thing nearly gobbled up the rug on high speed! 😂 She's got the power!! I love it Man you have the perfect combo of updated parts on it, it looks nicer than if it were solid light gray. I can see why that delicate switch is so handy on rugs!
Yeah, man, it truly comes in handy in my house. Very pleased with it both in looks and performance.
Does kirby even sell the original parts for the older G series?
Far as brand new parts go, they still make trim, labels and certain wheel colors for the G series, yeah. The mini emtors, cords and parts of the bags are black now.
But except for the Avalir 2, are rest of the Kirbys discontinued?
They are available if you buy them used, reconditioned or New/Old stock. Other than that, the Avalir 2 is the latest model bran new.@@brentcho1275
Thanks. I really love this machine. I bought this thing off eBay for only 74 dollars. I used it today and it’s even tearing out my wall to wall carpets. I sometimes have to use it on delicate speed, especially on the edge parts.
Yeah, they have a lot of airflow.@@brentcho1275
That’s nice 😊
Thank you! 😊
Shes a beaut😅
Thanks, Melissa!
Very nice 519! 😁👍
Thanks!! I have had it since I was 12-years old. I am 37 now and still use it.
If I had to do this all of the time, I think that I would convert it over to use disposable bags, or use something that does
I do plan to convert it to use HEPA filtration in the future. I have done it before, but I didn't like the way the Heritage 2 bag looked on it. A friend of mine has a seamstress that is going to do a custom tan bag to match the trim. Now, concerning emptying the bag: you don't have to go to this extreme every week. You can simply shake it out and empty it onto a newspaper or mat and dispose of it. I choose to go the extra mile and clean it out thoroughly. I do recommend to anyone that has a shake-out bag vacuum, or a bagless vacuum with a bin, to take their machines outdoors and clean them out at some point. The walls of the bags and filters get plugged with dust and hair over time, and that restricts airflow. I do have two other machines that use HEPA bags in my collection: a Kirby Diamond Edition and a Royal all-metal upright. However, this machine is my favorite and is easier to use compared to the other two.
I agree about the looks of the outer bags. I have some vintage Eurekas, in which the Sanitaire bags don't look right, but nothing else is available for them anymore
@@dancline2143 Yeah, I remember you mentioning having a Eureka collection. One of my first vacuums was a tan model 630. I was three-years old when I got it. I'm a big fan of Sanitaire, also. Yeah, it sucks, no pun intended, that they only make so many replacement bags and you try to match the color as best as possible.
Great videos, your obedience is very impressive keeping that outer bag flowing air 100%. It never plugs, you are the God of shakeout bags my friend! Great work!
Thanks, again! I still plan to convert it to HEPA filtration in the future, but it will be awhile before I do. Until then, this is how I maintain it.
