Thats not how taxes work, i too am a fabricator with cnc plasma machine. I just met with my accountant yesterday. I cant write off my 40k building entirely how you going to write off a $200k machine it doesnt work like a tax credit. it just reduces your tax burden. . .

Writing it off only means you paid less tax not that the tax break was worth even half the cost of the equipment. You spent 200k to save around 80k. If you intended to buy the equipment regardless and it produced enough net income to more than pay for itself, fuel, consumables, and maintenance in the first year then it was a sound investment. Writing off the full value is only for federal tax if I’m not mistaken so there still is a tax liability associated with the purchase. At the end of the day kudos for being able to afford such a nice machine but write offs aren’t necessarily free money.

You won't be able to write it all off some day. Govt keeps taking more and more and giving less and less.
