Audi TT Roadster Convertible Top Removal –– HOW TO REMOVE ACTUAL PROCESS
*DISCLAIMER--THIS IS NOT A HOW TO VIDEO or INSTRUCTIONS-- View for informative use only (How to in title is for search purposes only).
Here's how I removed my convertible top off of my 2004 Audi TT Roadster 3.2L Quattro. I purchased a replacement top for $480 off eBay. Quotes for installation were around $1000-1200 for labor only so I did it myself.
Install is basically the reverse of removal-
My total time in the removal was around 5 hours and reinstall was around 4-5 hours. If a person is not mechanically inclined / skilled, I don't recommend trying this DIY.
A complete tool kit was needed for this job as there are many Torx screws, phillips screws, rivets, and a few allen heads.
Note-Rivets are very large and local hardware store did not carry replacement.

Thanks man, yes very useful
I can’t get handle off ,please explain. I found an Allen screw but it just spins .
Does the Audi TT and Audi TTS have the same roof removal? Or are they different
Is it the same procedure on the Audi TT 1.8t?
How was the experience, putting the new top on the TT?
Any idea on where the electric motor for the top is located
It's under the center console, essentially
@@rubengregorio2659 thx any vids on it u know of???
just order convertible top anyone have intruction for 2008 thanks
Great video thanks. Appreciate this is an old post but wondering about when you reassembled. How did you put the rear skirt back under the trim at the back? Did you use any sealer or other adhesive?
Thanks a lot !!!!! Great info
Thank you so much for sharing!
This tutorial along with this pictorial helps a lot. There is also a kit on ebay which includes a bunch of useful things for the job. Well worth the $100 public.fotki.com/mcphill/audi_stuff/exterior_non-lighting/soft-top-replacement/118-robbins-top.html#media
Starting this today, much appreciated for this vid.
I know this is years old but I think I’m going to attempt to replace mine myself. My TT is non op right now so I can take my time. Seems like just disassembling it, and the putting it all back together. How do you suggest adhering the new top to that back bar though?
There is a kit on ebay for about $100, has all the glue and rivets and new cables. Makes life a HELL of a lot easier
Or use contact cement. Backbutter both surfaces. Let air dry. Lastly, join the two surfaces.
How long did it take you from to remove the fabric roof to get to the point you show in this clip?
Take about 2 hours to remove the top if you label every screw and place them in bags and take plenty of pictures. There are a hundred steps to this.
how exactly do you remove the roof lever
I am finding the same problem, did you get an answer on that lever/handle?
From my understanding there is a pin that you need to push out, I have also heard that some require an alan key to unscrew the pin first then push out from opposite side. Note I have not done this myself as yet so please don't take this advice as gospel.
Allen key on one end. Stick a tiny allen key on the opposite end, in the little hole and press while you unscrew the allen key pin, it will press out while you unscrew it.
brennan this is bad a, and i love music haha. DJ Fresh FTW!
