Hi Lee & Ali the engine bay is coming on very nicely. And the electric cupboard looks great now. What a couple hours can do. Keep up the great work thanks Al & foxy
Hi there about the cat wasto do with corenation street ens sharples and her friend Minnie Caldwell when David on about it 👍
@terrencehorton433 yes Minnie Caldwell, that's the one we couldn't remember. Thank you!!
I didn't see Lee tidy any cables? does he think the trims are cables? why don't you two carry on painting whilst Derek finishes the ship.
Hi Lee, all Lee's work was done behind the scenes 😊
hi again ... that single socket you and dave fitted the max size fuse for the blue flex is a 16amp ... if you put it on a 32amp it will melt the blue flex under fault current if you need a 32amp supply then you need min of 6mm cable and 32amp rated swich isolator .... cooker ignition button should need a normal plug with a 5 amp fuse in the plug but in the book that comes with your cooker all the size power supply will be listed in that book .....hope this helps a bit ..... its has to be right so when its tested for your completion certificate to use your boat on the canal it wont fail and hold you up
Hi there, thanks for the info, I'm going to get a new trip. That socket is only for the oven which we haven't got yet, but it will be replaced. Best wishes Lee & Ali
Capn' birds eye strikes again. Great to see the cupboard tidied. looks loads better now. the engine bay is coming along nicely too.
Hi Wayne & Ruth, yes we really feel we are getting on top of things now. Fingers crossed for an April boat lift. Best wishes Lee & Ali
Hi there it's nice to see Dave back he needs to get some more vlogs out and it was ame that lock with the cat and love your vlogs I bet you can't wait to get on the water 👍👌
Hi Terrence, yes we can't wait to get on the water, we are hoping for an April boat lift. Sorry whats the lock with the cat?? Daves not been doing vlogs as he is just too busy enjoying life on the cut. Best wishes Lee & Ali
Some narrowboat channels have an adorable child, many others have a cute dog but only "Lee & Ali Building" features Captain Birdseye, I will leave it to women folk to comment on whether Dave is adorable, cute or both. p.s Do you know the depth and width dimentions of your electrical cabinet below gunnel height? I guess 18" deep by 15" wide. The answer will help with the planning of my fitout.
Haha great comment re Dave! Below gunwhale height is: 940mm width from 550mm and reduces to 500mm Length: 530mm hope this helps. Are you vlogging?
Good lad our Dave
He's the best 👌
Glad to see it ain't just me having trouble getting his screws in, bloody frustrating when they drop on the floor.
Hi Phil, it certainly is 😊 hows it going your end?
I really love the look of the acoustic panels and the tiled shower. So posh❤
Glad you like them! We do too!! 😊
It's a pity we don't need a prop just yet but it will be a long time before we need one. We were at the boat yesterday and found a leak from a taped over roof vent (want to paint before we fit them) went to check and found that the birds had pecked holes in the tape, little blighters. they now have blocks placed on top to keep the birds off! Keep up the good work and get on with that electrical cupboard..
Ah no,what a pain!!! Still I'm sure you have the remedy in place. Ha ha...yes it will be tackled next time, promise😊
Nice to see Dave again and we will definitely take his advice and keep the boat at the boatyard as long as is necessary to make sure it is all working and completed before we move away.
@@AtaleofTattonTug yes its good to see him looking so well
great vlog as always - we were always adjusting the length of our fenders when we were on Moonlight as it just depends on the height of the bank/towpath
Hi Wayne & Ruth, thank you for your message. Yes that makes sense, others have said the same. Best wishes to you both
I've been lurking here and watching you from the start. You're giving me the same feeling I got finishing off a build-from-scratch of a 14-foot canoe yawl with my dad and being so close to putting her on the water we could practically smell it. Or the feeling on our 42-foot motor-sailer on Morecambe Bay when we got close to finishing off a "modification" to make her easier to handle. Doesn't matter how you get on the water, which water it is or what kind of vessel you have - you're one of us. I've been at the helm of various craft in the Irish Sea, the Western Isles, the Norfolk Broads, the Thames estuary, Puget Sound and the Great Lakes... and the canals of Britain are STILL on my bucket list. I know it will take as long as it takes, no matter what our various fans here wish, but when the Black Swan finally learns to swim, I hope you know that there will be a glass of single malt hoisted right here to speed you on your way.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for your inspiring message. We have much to live up to. For us it does feel a little frustrating as we are desperate to get the Black Swan afloat and start the next chapter of our adventures. We will be boosted to know that you will e raising a glass when this happens. Best wishes Lee & Ali
@@leealibuildingtheblackswan2098 I know it doesn't do any good to tell you to not be frustrated - you're SO close, but the final pieces always seem to take twice as long as they should on a project like this. And don't deceive yourselves into thinking that you'll ever be DONE done. I've NEVER owned or crewed a boat of any kind where every season didn't give a few ideas for how something on that particular boat could be done better, and so she was constantly being worked on. You give the props and the shout-outs to "your Dave" but one continuous trend I've seen over the entire series is that he never has to show anything twice. That could be skilful editing on your part but seeing you both tearing into the NEXT job makes me doubt it. You're doing just fine. The frustration with how long everything takes on a boat to get it right is part of the experience, I'm afraid. Here's to the day that your steel structure on the hardstanding becomes a boat.
Hi Dave, thank you again for your kind and inspirational words. Yes we are sure there will be numerous little changes as we get to grip with our boat. We are extremely grateful to Dave for his help and its fair to say some of his teachings have sunken in. It will be so nice to know the feeling, like you have, once our Black Swan is afloat. Best wishes, Lee & Ali
Thanks for visiting bottom lock. Please come back and tour one of our hire boats at Union Canal Carriers - Braunston
@@heatherduncan6756 we would love to
Wat a lovely vlog and great to see Dave his vlogs are good and I have got my bread to tee so cep up your vlogs coming and all the best 👍
👌
Hi Lee & Ali that’s a shame about the prop. Is it worth asking the boat builder to swap it out for you thanks Al
@AlFoxysNarrowboatLUNAR hi guys, already done that and they only stock the smaller ones unfortunately 😕
Sure someone will buy it
I think I would revamp the lids, and openings. The lids with a down turned lip and put in a 1" angle iron on the inside of the opening with one side of the angle pointing up as a dam. Cut drainage holes to drain that inner lip. Maybe a 2 1/2 hr. job per hatch and opening. It would be just like the engine hatch.
@@lorencolt good idea 💡
So do you have multi tool sander, cutter? They work great in the tight corners with the sanding attachment.
@@lorencolt yes lee did that off camera
What is the shaft diameter on the prop?
@sidewaysid we think it's 1.5" Phil but we are not at the boat now to check
@@leealibuildingtheblackswan2098 yep that's right guys 1.5" shaft
@atomshed5599 thanks Andy
@@leealibuildingtheblackswan2098 I'll measure my shaft ooh err madam, and get back
@@sidewaysid it is a 1.5" shaft
Enjoying your vlogs 😊 we are having a reflexes stove on our boat , see you have a fan on the top of yours . Is it a specific one for them ? Roy says watch what you are doing with that camera misses 😂😂😂
@RoyByrne-v5w lol I can't help myself !! We just got our fan from amazon, it makes a huge difference
Lovely to hear the chat between you all, and love Dave's beard!!! Suits him. xx
@carolj4221 it certainly does carol, it was great to see him in such high spirits x
It's good to see Dave back again
@paulpells921 it certainly is.. he is coming to help us in a couple of weeks time, so he will be making a cameo appearance
Dave will soon catch with my beard😂😂😂

@@sidewaysid you're right there!
Hi again you 2 .... the fenders will need to be adjusted depending on where you moor up the armco can be different heights ... Karen where you got your fenders from sell little black adjuster blocks which makes adjusting the lenght of fender ropes easier ....
@KeithClark-k3s that's great advice, thanks Keith
We did the same with our fender hooks to stop the paint be taken off. It does work we used weed hatch tape as ours are wider hooks. We filmed our too!! lol Phil & Marianne
@@CaptBadger-1 hi Phil & Marianne, good to know it works 💪
@@leealibuildingtheblackswan2098 Yes it does, we took ours around the curve on the outside edge too, it does loosen but soon sticks back down a win in our eyes 👀
Good morning Ali and Lee, we use a similar hook type that you have and if you search for Marine Fender Grip in Temu or Ali Express we have a rope grip that you can adjust the height of the fender with using a knot. The loop that goes over the rail is the loop that goes through the handrail hook.
Thanks for the info Dale, always appreciated
@ we look forward to seeing you both at Crick.
Looking forward to it@@dalejones4184
You will alter the height of your fenders , in marinas the height of jetties vary . Those rope fenders look lovely when new but soon turn to manky shite and spread crap . Suggest the rubber tubular ones
Yes definitely something to invest in in the future
Fifty quid for the prop ?
😂😂😂😂
Years ago I hired a boat for a week, went into a lock with the fenders down without realizing, they must have all got ripped off, a few hours later I found out. It cost me a fortune to replace them
We don't want that to happen 😅
Great video could you tell me what grade of Rockwall you used
It's woolrock fibre liner smooth 150gsm
great vlog - the choice of marina is so important and different marinas suit different people
@@AtaleofTattonTug absolutely 💯 its good to take a look around 👍
Hi lee and Ali that’s a big silencer. It certainly gets harder to move about the engine bay the more you put in it 😂
It certainly is big! John choose it for us. I suppose eventually you will get used to where to put your feet. 😊
Yay we were on your vlog .. our boat anyway 😊 the footpath takes you up into the village . That controller is like ours and we really like it 👍
Shame we didn't see you Adie, we could've had that coffee at last! The marina is lovely, I understand why you and your wife are happy there 😊
Thank you so much for visiting The Boat Shop today, your video is wonderful of all we have to offer in Braunston xx❤️
It was lovely to meet you Claire, and I do hope that our vlog helps people to find you. See you again soon! Best wishes Lee & Ali
That's the one I have, dead easy to fit the cables, so you will need to measure the cable distances to throttle and gearbox, Midland have them all in stock, looking good.
Thanks Phil we will let Andy know 👍
Hi with your exhaust it's ok when it cold but when you have been out cruising it will red hot and want to get into the weed hatch as it got a case that fits over it all the best 👍
@terrencehorton433 hi there, sound advice thank you 👍
Hi u2, that's a leading question. looking good Andy is making a nice job looking forward to that prop turning
Hi Dave, yes we are in safe hands with Andy. It was good to have a chat with him yesterday regarding where everything will be situated.
coming along nicely lee. my only advice is to check that you can get to anything in the engine bay easily. remember it will all need maintenance sooner or later. Most people go for the Vetus morse controller.
Hi Wayne, that's the reason we spent a significant time with Andy yesterday regarding placement of all items. We are off to midland chandlers today to look at morse controllers
@@leealibuildingtheblackswan2098 love a trip to Midland chandlers - im like a child at christmas 😃
I cannot believe this guy has actually put at least 3mm gouges in the side of 6mm hull i would definitely not let him near mine and yes I am a welder
That actually was on his boat
Lee does that silencer get hot / warm? Might make access to weed hatch difficult.
Hi Alan, I believe not, but I was clear reaching into the weed hatch, although the camera angle didn't show you this
Mines on the left where your starter battery is , my starter battery is up on the bulkhead
I just bought a morse control Ultraflex forward and reverse and pull it out for neutral, midland chandlers your favorite place 158 quid I think, look on the website
Yep brilliant we have done the same, going to midland chandlers tomorrow 😀
Hi Lee and Ali Things are looking really good. Just make sure you have lots of room around the greaser so that when it needs to be refilled you have adequate space. Mark Alberta, Canada
Hi Mark, wow canada!! Yes that's a consideration we have been discussing. 😊
Hi Lee, I bring it up as I have seen many struggle with that necessary operation. Looking forward to the next step. If you find the engine bay getting too warm for the battery vent the bay to the cabin@@leealibuildingtheblackswan2098
@markrant1460 there will be ventilation to engine bay via outside of boat. Thank you for your kind words
I did a bit on my boat today, it's getting cold out there.
It certainly is, we had to go to spoons to warm up 😅😊
great info on the vlog - nice and quiet and handy for the car
Yes it is, but no shops nearby
Maybe a bit to quiet? Seems like the folks there keep themselves to themselves. I would hope for a marinina with a bit more character and a social atmosphere. You two are the best to judge though, hope you have other places to check out?
Hi Gordon , yes we agree. Be nice to have shops in walking distance too x
