    Why not use the base for the sumo with a tab welded on the side to support the cradle?

      That question is hard to answer. Several variables to consider. If it’s dry and trail in good condition probably not. I didn’t use 4x4 on this day. Good tires for sure.

    I like 360° cam footage over a drone. Drones are cool, but for wheeling videos a driver/passenger POV is more interesting because these videos also provide scouting information. A loop drive between Silverton and Ouray using off road trails and Million Dollar Highway is my plan in Sept. Looking forward to it!

      The Sumo springs with an add a leaf were not in constant contact when loaded for a trip (although it was close)and did quite well. Nice video. I lived in Telluride when True Grit was being filmed. John Wayne and Glen Campbell came into the drugstore where I worked. It was neat to see what the production team did to Ridgway to film there. They built new wooden sidewalks and aged them. Also the rock wall for the hanging was pretty neat. In one of the cuts where they are about to hang the bad guys you can see a jet flying. If you ever watched The Unsinkable Molly Brown movie, part of that was filmed near Telluride. When True Grit came out I had just gotten my drivers license so I had the car. I went to the Idarado Mining Company, picked him up and took him to the theater. There is so much to see and do there and in the surrounding area. Take the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge railroad. Stunning. Thanks for posting this.

    • @copelandingadventures
      @copelandingadventures ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Wesley. I highly recommend this drive. I wouldn’t be concerned about passing. Everyone works together when the need arises. We are all out there for the same reason. Just go slow and be mindful of the edge. If two vehicles meet on a steep narrow road and neither vehicle can pass, the vehicle facing uphill has the right-of-way. The vehicle facing downhill has more control when backing up the hill. Thanks for your comment and enjoy the drive.

    In the late 1980’s me and a buddy took my Bronco from Silverton to Telluride over an above-tree line road. The road got real narrow with steep drop-offs, and on the way down we came up a station wagon heading up in our direction. My palms were sweaty as a mother and her three kiddos nonchalantly passed by us. Then on the final leg downhill my brakes vapor-locked, but I was able coast to a stop alongside a grove of aspen trees.

      I lived in Telluride and had a new Scout II. A Marine Corps buddy and I decided to take Black Bear Pass. I had three sets of tires. One for regular driving, one for off-roading ad one more for sand. Too lazy to change out the wide sand tires we pressed on. He was driving. At one point I noticed the tires on my side were just starting to edge over the road. Very calmly I told him, "Jim, you better move to your side, the tires are over the edge of the road." He replied even more calmly, "If I do that I will scrape the mirror off the door." We made it, but weren't lazy any more.

      Hey Virgil. I appreciate the comment. The dirt gravel road ended at the airport. Then if I remember correctly you turn onto a paved road When going into Telluride there is a huge Elk herd that stays out in a field. We found that to be the cherry on top of this days travel.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing. Looks like we are almost neighbors. I am from Independence, MO. My wife and I spend 2 weeks each summer in the San Juan's driving the trails . Since we use Ouray as home base we either use Minneral Creek or Corkscrew to get into the outback each day. Mineral Creek is a little more technical and challenging but Corkscrew is my favorite because it takes you right though the middle of the Red Mountains and the beautiful views of those peaks. Don't you love the 360 camera? I have a hard time picking up any of my other action cameras since I got my Insta360 One x2. @@copelandingadventures U were wise to not push beyond your skill level at that time. I've run Fins many times. There are only about 3 spots that are tricky. In Moab, there are many off camber slopes that can land you on your roof easily. H*lls Revenge is another fun one.

      @@MOAB-UT I would like to go and watch Hells gate for a while on a busy day. Not to interested in driving it in my Tacoma though. Lol.

      @@copelandingadventures I rented a SxS and made it up to that spot. It's really cool but no way I am risking my neck for a cheap thrill. One recent brain injury where I could barely tie my shoes is more than enough. It happened in Moab. The ride up H. Revenge was not too bad as long as you go low and slow. Air down. Better in a SxS but your truck could def. make it if it is 4x4. If you wonder up towards the hot tubs area (not part of the safer safari route), there is one tricky spot I discovered. I should have gone around to the right. You will know it when you see it. It is already steep, then it gets stupid steep. Feeling confident, I followed my technique of staying on trail- in the tire marks. I should have gone around. I almost flipped backwards. Luckily I was going very slow but when you hit the brakes, while rolling backwards, that momentum makes the machine want to go over backwards- especially since all the weight on those things- and the motor is in the rear with the gear. I would not want to try that in a Tacoma but many do. On H. Revenger, you will get a wake up call, right off the parking lot on the first fin you commit to. It's something- but a lot of fun. It's pretty safe if you are smart about it.

      @@MOAB-UT I have watched enough of it on TH-cam and after Fins know I am not interested in that style in my truck. Lol. And I agree on black bear pass. No thanks! Lol

    I did this trail earlier this year. This time I actually walked around the Corners. It is not for those who fear heights. Glad I did it though- it was exhilarating. Have you done H*lls Revenge, Long Canyon and Shafer? Those are also must do trail in Moab. White Rim is cool too. Many trails- so little time.

      I appreciate you comment. I too will walk around when we get back there. We got rained out on White Rim. Long canyon is on my list. Shafer was amazing. Video coming. Onion Creek amazing as well. I have a video out on onion creek and 2 more releasing in the next few days. Please subscribe if you haven't.

      @@copelandingadventures Onion is on the list as is Hey Joe Canyon. Long is a great canyon- not that long really but fun. I prefer going up it. One big dip just before the huge rock. Go slow at that spot. I had a $70k built Jeep and it struggled slightly- had to put a rock under the wheel then made it past that spot no problem. It's slightly steep and very lose so it can be tricky. Do you like Onion more than Shafer? Have you done Hey Joe yet? Looks narrow in spots- will likely do it on my friends 4x4 ATV this spring. I rent UTV's out there and I def. do not want to damage machines, let alone a $70k Jeep. They take pics and use GPS to track these days. With all your adventures, what is your favorite top 3 trails/must-see spots? I like MOAB, Yosemite and skiing various spots in Colorado like Vail and Telluride (cool town.) Headed to WY next year- hiking near Jackson Hole. Zion and Death Valley were fun too- visited earlier this year. Been to most those places ONCE. Been to MOAB 6 times. SUBSCRIBED!

      We hit colorado again on our way back home from Utah. We did California, Hurricane and Corkscrew and stopped briefly at Animas forks. Those are amazing and so beautiful. My goal is Imogene pass. I am researching southern Missouri and Arkansas right now. Just a few hours from home and beautiful. Blessed to be in this country with so much to see.

      @@copelandingadventures Imogene is on my list too. Nearby Black Bear Pass s beyond my skill level. I have nothing to prove. Stop in and have dinner in Telluride when you do Imogene. It's a fun town and a great ski mountain. Vail is fun too. Some good mining museums in Colorado- I liked the National Mining Hall of Fame- cool old town of Leadville. I am a skier so I have explored most of the West.
