Drawing a Charcoal Self Portrait | The Right Way ~ Lo-fi Chill Playlist
Hey all! I'm so glad to be back with a very special video, a Self Portrait from life, that I did from looking at myself in the mirror!
Listen to the pretty playlist, have a cup of coffee, chill and draw sesh!
Well, drawing a self portrait! It's more difficult than it looks, but it's one of the best ways to practice drawing/painting portraits! You are your best model!
And plus you can actually feel your face to understand the underlying structure!
Join me on this Lo-Fi music filled, calming process of documenting my own face! I have to tell you, I like my self more and accept my self more after this drawing practice! It helped me to observe myself objectively and with a sense of balance, not judging myself or picking faults! (We all do that, don't we?)
The materials that I used for this project are:
~Ingres Paper: a.co/d/i3kEhY2
~Nitram Charcoal: a.co/d/1SFSkwi
~Kneaded eraser: a.co/d/79nHtyT
~Mechanical eraser: a.co/d/79nHtyT & a.co/d/3Ha7odi
~Cutter: Any local brand should work
~Table easel: a.co/d/fy8ES0N
And last but not the least:
The book I used to study Anatomy: www.amazon.es/dp/7540120134?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_RYTS0RN6D2A6ZPFCW07T
I would like to thank everyone who helped me put together this video!
And thank you to the viewers and supporters!
Please write to me in the comments about what you think?
I would love to share and exchange thoughts!

I share with you some thoughts, some philosophies, my inspirations and motivations to make this piece of art. I have been an artist most of my life, in some way or another. It’s a calling I could not escape, since childhood. Only a few years ago, I decided to give it my all, and delve deep i...

Hey, how do you recommend someone get started with oil painting with a small and if possible portable setup? The supplies and the storage stump me ...would really appreciate some guidance

@@mayukhbanerjee1147 Hi! I would get started with a tripod portable palette (i think you can find on Amazon or an art store like Art Lounge, if you're from Mumbai) and some basic colours - white, black, raw umber, cadmium red, ultramarine blue, a forest green or viridian green, and some yellows - ochre and lemon.. Winsor and Newton are a good brand available in India. I would also invest in 4-5 brushes of various sizes depending on the scale of the artworks you plan to make. Some Linseed oil, some solvent (turpentine), some old rags, a canvas or wood surface, maybe some gesso to prep the canvas. Haha, it sounds like a lot perhaps, but its really enjoyable to do. Let me know if this was helpful! Thanks!

@@ArtMonga.StudioMonga Thanks! I was hoping to use water soluble oils because I currently live in a one room pg with not much ventilation 😅. I also don't have access to a fridge so how to store the colours once they are on the palette is also something I am thinking about. Initially I was looking for a box palette (even thought of DIYing one) so that it can at least keep the colours away from air, but didn't find suitable ones and thus have been thinking of using a clear acrylic board or a ceramic plate for a makeshift palette. But that's when the topic of storing the paint comes which I can't figure out. Sorry for the rambling haha. Really appreciate your response and totally get it if you'd rather not read this whole paragraph lol.

That was really well done...I have got to incorporate drawing the skull and underlying structure of the face more into my portraits. I usually just start with the measurements and shadow shapes

Why do you use a knife to sharpen the pencil ✏️

    • @ArtMonga.StudioMonga
      @ArtMonga.StudioMonga 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

:D Nice question. It's a cutter, and artists use it to sharpen pencils, as they can control the amount of wood that needs to be chipped off, and also the edges of the lead tip. A normal sharpener will only create one type sharpness whereas with a cutter you can control and have sharper or softer edges for the lead tip. Also the cutter let's you add length to the wooden part, so the longer the tip is, it acts as a ruler for artists to measure the direction or height/width of the subject they are drawing.:) Hope this was helpful!
