Opposite View Wildlife Photography
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 พ.ย. 2011
My name is Rhiannon Law and I’m an amateur wildlife photographer based in Glasgow. On this channel, I plan to share my experiences with wildlife as well as some top tips, particularly for amateur photographers. I need to fit my photography around a day job, family and other commitments. Although I'm certainly not the best photographer, I am experienced at making the most of the time I have for my nature photography and I want to share what I've learnt with you.
I also want to encourage people to look again at some species they may have previously dismissed. I often feel depressed due to the seemingly constant negative press that some species get in the UK. I'm hoping that by sharing the stories of the wildlife appearing in front of my lens, I can encourage people to take the opposite view of so-called pest species.
I'd love to hear your ideas for topics you would like me to cover in these videos, so please leave me a comment. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Relaxing roe deer kid
Look at this serene scene of a roe deer baby munching and dozing in the summer sun. In this instance, the deer were on an upward slope so I could shoot from a worm’s eye view without lying on the ground - always a bonus. The only downside was the amount of flies in the air - I didn't have time to switch to manual focus, so all the insects dancing about in front of my lens caused the auto focus to jump around a bit.
I captured the footage in August 2024 using my OM-1 and M.Zuiko 100-400mm lens handheld. I filmed from a respectable distance using my long lens to avoid disturbing the deer.

Singing willow warbler
มุมมอง 1.7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Sound on to hear the song of the willow warbler. It has a complex cascading structure, starting high and descending in pitch as it progresses, and a gentle, lilting tone. It's the perfect soundtrack to spring and summer. I captured the footage in May 2024 using my OM-1 and M.Zuiko 100-400mm lens handheld. I filmed from a respectable distance using my long lens to avoid disturbing the bird. Oppo...

Singing wren

Sound on to hear the unmistakable song of the wren. If you listen carefully you may also be able to hear the bird that it is responding to. Can you hear it? I captured the footage and images in July 2024 using my OM-1 and M.Zuiko 100-400mm lens handheld. I filmed from a respectable distance using my long lens to avoid disturbing the bird. Fulmars on the cliffs at Dunstanburgh Castle
มุมมอง 1523 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch this pair of fulmars nesting on the cliffs next to Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland. The best time to look for them along our coasts is May onwards when they return to their nests and lay a single egg. I captured the footage and images in May 2024 using my OM-1 and M.Zuiko 100-400mm lens handheld. I filmed from a respectable distance using my long lens to avoid disturbing the birds. ...
Noisy great spotted woodpecker nest
มุมมอง 2123 หลายเดือนก่อน
Sound on and watch til the end! It was the noise that caused my partner and I to stop and take a look at this dead tree. Watch this video to see (and hear!) great spotted woodpecker chicks being fed by the male (identifiable by the patch of red feathers on the back of his head). If we hadn't decided to investigate the strange noise, we would have missed this lovely springtime encounter. So, if ...
Moorhen nest in a tyre
มุมมอง 4294 หลายเดือนก่อน
These moorhens had built their nest in a tyre hanging from a barge moored on the canal in Hamiltonhill in Glasgow. In this video, you can watch the parents feeding their tiny chicks. Just to note that this activity was captured using my long lens without disturbing the birds. Moorhens are an often overlooked species but one that's worth a second look. While the adults are easily recognised by t...
Long-tailed tits nest building
มุมมอง 1706 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch these adorable long-tailed tits busily building their nest. I captured the footage and images after discovering this nest on one of my lunchtime strolls. Long-tailed tits create their nests using moss, lichens and cobwebs and line it with around 1,500 feathers! They can take up to three weeks to build these incredible and flexible domed structures. The spider silk stretches to accommodate...
Redshanks posing and foraging
มุมมอง 766 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch this video of redshanks posing and feeding on both the east (Cambo Sands) and west (Lunderston Bay) coasts of Scotland. Predominantly found in coastal areas, estuaries, mudflats, and marshes, you can also spot redshanks inland around freshwater habitats such as flooded fields and wet meadows. These birds prefer shallow water bodies with ample vegetation cover, providing both food sources ...
Goldeneye duck preening
มุมมอง 1999 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch this video of a drake goldeneye preening and posing to clearly see the stunning emerald green shade of his head. The female goldeneyes have brown heads. Both males and females have a distinctive head. The scientific name of the goldeneye, Bucephala, means 'bull-headed' and refers to this strange head shape. Sadly the goldeneye is a red listed species in the UK. These diving ducks are wint...

Whooper swans trumpeting
มุมมอง 6559 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch and listen to these whooper swans as they call on an icy loch. The adults are white with a yellow and black bill, while the juveniles are grey with a pink and black bill. The whooper swan may be a rare breeding bird in the UK, but from October to March, around 16,000 spend the winter here, with the largest concentrations found in East Anglia, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. These birds tr...
