This is so nice, Cam! The subway shots at the beginning look so much like you're in Hamburg, Germany. Hahaha, it's funny how different spots in the world can look so similar and make you feel "home" in a way. Great pics!
thank you nancho!! 🙏 it's funny you say that actually some of your shots of Hamburg inspired me for this roll! 😁
@ ahh, funny! So happy to hear that! 🫶 You obv. created a beautiful work! 😍

Some philosophers and media studies experts argue that we are in a post-photographic era, where we don’t even need a camera to create images anymore and its really sad seeing the profilmic die off.
Fantastic intelligent and thoughtful vid thnx
The effort put into this piece is tremendous! Really great food for thought you put across the essay. You got yourself an instant sub!
Amazing video combining philosophy and photography together. Keep up the amazing work.
Good video.
As a person who has been on the planet a fairly long time, I've watched technology advance exponentially. Thinking of music for example, I bought albums in high school, later there were CDs, then iPods, then streaming. Music exists in the air and you have to pay to bring it to your ears. For the last 10+ years, I've been shooting film and digital; then my computer was hacked. Even though I have the sd cards and backup on an external hard drive it took months to get everything back in order. Now I shoot mainly film. For one thing, it's in my comfort zone - it's how we took photographs for most of my life. My negatives from the 80s are in archival file boxes; they are in pristine condition. I have photographs of family members going back to the late 1800s -1960s. Where are those digital files going to be in 40-50 years? Or even 10 years?
Unpopular opinion: film stock is just a preset and digital noise is just grain. Why do you let the technology rule over your creativity? Why don't embrace the possibilities with traditional mindset? I shoot old dslr as I'd shoot film. Then I use film emulation. Tbh I can't see the sense of shooting film daily, it's just tedious, time and resource consuming. Imo digital photography is just good enough, and sensible choice. Emulating film has endless possibilities, and you can romaticize it as much as you'd do with film.
I think I agree with this The cost of film is so high that digital just lets you improve more, you're simply taking more pictures. However digital noise can get a bit gross.
Most film emulations look like ass imo, digital enables bad habits and you're talking about the cost, but let me make this clear to you. Digital isn't compatible with a traditional mindset, I'm pretty sure with a film camera you couldn't just jam a roll with 1,000,000 exposures into it whenever you feel like it. I've crunched the numbers, and the used Lumix dc-gh5 I'm looking at getting next year is around £620. I shoot on C41 process 35mm, a development and high quality scan of three roles (that i can at best make last for a week each total) is around £80, the Lumix dc-gh5 is around 8 times that amount. So to put that into perspective, I'd be spending the equivalent of 8 months worth of development, prints and scans to get a camera I'll just end up using alongside my OM-10 anyway. I'm still going to get it, but you can actually make film work if you have enough restraint and budget properly, and that's what I'm going to keep doing, i do understand it's very expensive though, so i get why somebody wouldn't want to do this. Also don't act like digitals any cheaper, have u seen the prices on the used market lately😂😂
@@bendynotbendI'm the opposite, i prefer film because it pushes me to practise patience and restraint. I'm gen z and very much part of the 'first IPhone' generation, so having a camera that forces me to think about and consider and consider every shot carefully is important. I like digital, but it just enables those things for me, even if I'd try using a smaller card i feel like sneaking a bigger one with me would be far too tempting. I'm also considering getting a canon EOS 1v, which is kind of the best of both worlds, the things i prefer about SLRs mixed with some advantages of digital cameras (settings display, autofocus, better auto exposure, ect). I'll admit I'm also privileged to have benefits because of my disabilities and being financially supported by my family, so I'm not exactly short on funds and I'll admit I'm a bit privileged in that regard. Also thank you both for being very calm and civil, i sometimes find trying to approach digital mains with some nuance a bit anxiety inducing because the online photography space can sometimes be quite toxic, but you two seem like nice fellows sp that's good😊😊 (I'm also autistic and one of my special interests is retro technology, i hope that explains a bit).
@@icravedeath.1200 I'm not going to argue that digital is expensive, but it is also (for the most part) just a high cost of entry, and if you really want to be frugal you can get a used dslr and the kit lens for a reasonable price. After that the cost is mostly from storage or from extra gear (which is not always needed) Another reason for digital is video, which is something I'm interested in. Even using super 8mm film you can only get 11 minutes of footage for like $70 (AUD) I do think I'd like to try film photography one day, and I am by no means against it, digital just suits my needs better at the moment, as a beginner photographer I just want to be out taking as many photos as possible. For capturing memories I can see the argument for film though, in that regard it lets you be more present and deliberate, and it's also not perfect, capturing the feeling of the memory too (kinda fuzzy, vignetted etc.) Maybe if you wanted a camera for the same purpose you could look at digicams or camcorders. Much better priced than newer cameras and with more "vibe" to them if that's what you want to call it. I think having a more niche interest such as retro technology is awesome btw.
But what about the audio??? I have to ask you a serious questioin... WHY??? Why does every youtube video about analog camera and film have a soundtrack generated by AI??? It's the same thing. You'll say, "because it's cheap, easy, already sounds good with zero effort, etc." You get what I'm saying? AI music is not cool. Stop using it to promote analog film. Thank you... end of rant ;)
In our digital world, it's too easy to become isolated. Looking at film photos feels like a hug, or the brush of someone's hair against your skin. I like to shoot film, and I LOVE this vid. Thank you!!!
damn goeed
Loved this! All these feels resonate so hard. The same idea applies to this video I saw saying “the real world is cool again, the digital world is dying”. The value in the tangible and real really gets shown in its absence
Loved this video - straight facts.
i appreciate the kind words!
bro what a good essay
too kind, thank you 🙏
great video
appreciate it, thank you my man 🤝
This is an excellent video bro. Subbed immediately
appreciate it bro! thank you a ton
This is such a great video, Cam! Even though I mostly shoot digital, I also have a film camera that I LOVE to use only when I travel (for obv. reasons 😅). I can totally resonate with all your amazing guests and their thoughts on why film has such a unique charm. There’s just something about the process, the imperfections, and the whole experience that makes it feel so different and meaningful. Thanks for sharing it!
thanks for your comment nancho! i love how so many people regardless of their experience with photography, have these universal feelings for film!
loved watching the video, great job
thank you! 🙏

This topic has completely consumed my creative expression and thoughts in 2024. Awesome vid, man. Can’t agree more with what you’re saying
thank you my friend 🫂 it is wild how much its grown in popularity year after year, and how much its influenced my creation in the past year!

Excellent video man. Music choice, b roll and the talking head sections were all great. The way you edited the section of the minor conflict during the protest enhanced the tension that must’ve been in the air in that moment. Of course the photos were great too. I think the images turned out quite bit better than your giving yourself credit for.
thank you! i really appreciate your kind words :)❤ i hadnt gotten the chance to see a protest live like that and be able to capture something like that, it was very intense being my first time in an engagement like that.
nice bro
thank you!! 👏
What an autumn vibe and those colours 😍 Beautifully captured! 👏
thank you so much nancho!! really got lucky with the last gasp of fall here 🥰
Hi Cameron, TH-cam suggested your video to me, and I have to say, I really enjoyed watching your photography! It’s not easy to balance shooting video and taking photos simultaneously, especially outdoors where everything can feel so overwhelming, but you captured such beautiful moments! Wow! Well done! (+ 1 subscriber here). I can’t wait to see how your TH-cam channel develops, I'm a beginner TH-camr myself and I'm happy I discovered your channel! :)
Thank you so much, your kind words mean a lot! It is a bit tough I am always prone to make a mistake at some point when recording these but I'm just happy other people enjoy it! You have a very beautiful channel as well and I am excited to watch it grow myself :))
i’d love to join you next time! 📷
that would be such a blast!

Dude you should learn right color correction and grading, your grass is electric blue😂😂
bud I just checked your channel and I don't think you should be talking about color grading
You say "they said to shoot it as box speed" - is that what you did? Thanks for making this video.
hey! yeah i that’s what i attempted, i do wish i did some test cause some of the images were still a bit dark for my liking but slide film makes those judgements a lot harder, especially since my experience is limited. thank you for watching along! :-)
great video, but with this camera there are a few 'special' rookie mistakes,eg: to do with the double exposure lever; it is used normally in this system to check the camera without film in the back (due to the mechanics inside), so when you shoot for real, check the lever is off (red dot showing says winder is DEAD! - aka disconnected); also this has an electromagnet shutter timing system, with a 1/500th mechanical override if something goes wrong, or the battery goes flat, so check BEFORE the shoot (use a slow speed aka 1/4 sec. as any faster you can't tell if it worked {two clicks must be heard to confirm correct operation}); next, if you fit a metered prism, the shutter speed dial on the body is overridden, if A is selected on the metering mode dial, so if you wonder why the shutter has gone wrong, look here first (wrong mode selected, or by accident); the final 'gotcha' is the mirror-up lever, if installed, if you hit it by accident the return motion fires the shutter, so either do it with the lens cap on & in double exposure mode (to NOT advance the film when re-cocking the shutter), or use the "hasselblad method", which is to replace the darkslide and remove the film magasine entirely from the camera body, reset the camera, and replace the mag, taking the darkslide out.
Same, the Helios is what sparked my interest in vintage lenses as well. Found one on eBay for like $100 from a seller in New York, and love it. I just picked up one of these 135mm on eBay as well and am looking forward to trying it out! Great video!
Is your 135 sharper than the sony 55-210 kit lens?
50mm's are a little awkward on a crop sensor. Works much easier on a full frame.
