The UK has a number of Units that are on every other nations list of "Do NOT "F" With Them!" Every Gurkha Unit is on that list!!!

My late dad was in 1st battalion coldstream guards in the late 50's, he was always proud of his service, so much so his coffin came into the crematorium to figaro the slow march of the coldstream guards 💂♂️💂♂️miss you dad

Question what was he doing on that wall
It's the halfway point between the two Sentry’s. He halts, ends up facing the wall, does the left turn, checks the sentry, does an about turn, checks the other sentry. When he is happy that they haven't wandered off are standing in the right place and haven't been stolen, he then Marches off. They have to have a set routine to ensure all is as it should be. It can look a bit odd but he has a bear on his head, how much more odd can it be. Hey, Hey, Hey

Nah, he didn't cover it. Stood out like a sore thumb. When I went through Guards Depot at Catterick, we were told that any little mistake stands out. He screwed up several times in a row: first with the left turn on "dismissed" and then with the rifle drill. The LCpl on the gate was looking down during the salute. Not a great day for the Scots Guards. RAGGED!
Does the quick march go back to the era when light infantry moved swiftly ahead as skirmishers, while their line comrades marched more sedately?
why don't the Brits have cloth name tapes on their combat shirts? ( A good decision NOT to have them...I might add. ) My attitude in my army was...I know my name. If I want you to know it...I'll tell you it. But...the CF hierarchy doesn't G A S what I think. I asked the Battery Sgt. Maj one day why HE didn't have a name tape on his uniform. He said..."Name tapes on combat unis are for Yanks...in case they forget what their name is when asked." I laughed and that's when I had a hate-on fer name tapes! LOL!

GOD I hated parades. But the worst day was always the final practice BEFORE the actual event. Plenty of screaming and handing out of HUNDREDS of EXTRAS! And ANYTHING...could warrant an extra. Or 5...or 10. "EYEBROW HAIR OUT PLACE! 10 EXTRAS!!! SEE ME AFTER THIS PARADE!!!" or..."BREATHING INCORRECTLY!!! 20 EXTRAS!!! SEE ME AFTER THIS PARADE!!!" And of COURSE...being in the RCHA...we marched at 120...to the minute! Not the std 110! Ouch! SHIN SPLINTS! Ouch!

Why so many different orders of dress? Clearly a rehearsal, but if so surely everyone should be in the same order of dress? Looks shoddy - "sure just come as you are" 🙄

After passing out of basic training, Nijmegen Company is the part of the regiment new guardsmen come to so this is possibly their first rehearsal for a guard mount.
Unexpected differences in turn out. One man wearing suede boots?! Surely not! Some bulled up belt fittings but most not.. Not the Guards I remember.
Biased as I’m ex British Army (infantry). But I think we are the smartest in the world. For instance our medals are all round, they don’t jangle, and we don’t dish them out like sweets. I saw a young gendarme (part of the French military) pass out with more medals than me! Anyway, like to see standards of the Line maintained. 👏 💂 🗡️
