This is like 1hr lesson's informations in 4:25 mins 😂😍 What a great video, I knew the stuff of being the "leader of the pack", the guide. That's a thing that many misunderstand. Correct me if I'm wrong, but being the "Leader of the pack" is not being the boss or the "Leader of the dog", but is being companion with the dog, but the companion that makes decision, because we live in a human driven world and a dog can't understand it! Anyway I knew some stuff you talked about, but I loved your way to interprete it. Obedience is a thing, commands come after it. That's absolutely right, and it helps also to explain it, I think it makes it more comprehensive (I'll have to try) Thank you for the video, I'd love to see more of it!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely spot-on with your interpretation. Many people do misunderstand the "leader of the pack" concept, thinking it’s about being domineering or overly authoritative, but as you mentioned, it’s really about being a clear and confident decision-maker that your dog can rely on. Dogs thrive when they know they can trust their handler to lead, especially in situations where they can’t fully grasp the complexities of the human world around them. It’s more of a partnership, but one where we, as the human, have the responsibility to guide the dog with fairness and consistency. I like how you brought up that obedience comes first and commands come after. That’s such a crucial point! Often, people jump straight to commands without establishing that mutual respect and understanding first, which can lead to frustration on both sides. It's amazing how quickly dogs respond once they recognize us as reliable leaders in their pack structure-obedience becomes almost natural after that. I’d be curious to hear how you apply this concept with your dog. Do you find that they respond better when you focus more on your leadership than the specific commands? Also, feel free to share any challenges you’ve faced in the process-I think it’d make for a great conversation here and could help others who are working on their dog’s obedience too. Thanks again for watching, and there’s definitely more content like this on the way!
@@jaytrainer8743 I'm a newbie in dog's world. I always loved them, but it's just some months I'm watching videos, researching and studying about them. I volunteer at a dog shelter once or twice a week, with 15/20 mins every time with a dog. If he's fearful I try to slowly gain his trust. If a dog is collaborative I mostly play, train just a little bit and if I can I go walking trying to let them be calm and peaceful. The main point I follow is "try to never force a dog do something without his approval, without him accepting the try, if he doesn't want I can just try to convince work on him" (from putting him the leash, to walk with me or play with me). This way I try to make a bond or at least let the dog accept to explore the world outside (I'm talking about dog shelter's dogs, eventually when I'll feel ready and I'll have a dog surely it would be different)

Beautiful dogs
Great pointers.
What an endearingly sweet ,utterly huggable and fluffy german doggy !!!
We know!!! He's a big cuddle bug
Not only do the boys bark at Jay's voice the bark at the knock at the door too.
It's always a party when I show up!
This makes perfect sense! Thank you.
Awesome Molly!!
Awesome Cathy!!
This training WORKS! As a cuddle bug dog mom, I get the inclination to gravitate to the cupcakes etc. way of training. BUT IT DOESN’T WORK. Repeat: it doesn’t work. I’m so glad I got the proper training for my pup… and guess what?? I still get all the snuggles minus the rambunctious.
Just curious about the "separation anxiety" question, is it possible to have a 'velcro dog' that follows you everywhere, stays by you always without having separation anxiety? Are not some dogs naturally 'velcro dogs' and demonstrate healthy connection with owner even if they always want to be at owners' side? Just curious your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance! : )
I worked with Jay in Cleveland, Ohio on a young, seriously depressed, rescue dog from a no-kill shelter. The results were incredible. He is a master, and the dog knows this immediately. The fringe benefit of working with him is that I learned as much about myself as I did about training dogs. I still use his methods going on 10 years later. They’re solid, ethical, and compassionate, and they work. Five stars forever.
I just love that Ralph!!!! ❤️❤️
Should probably move the prong collar up. 😬
Hello Jeremiah. Appreciate the comment. It's not a prong collar. It's a simple training collar(silver) E-collar is black. In our opinion, a prong collar would be inappropriate for this situation. The objective is to have a sustained change in the behavior of the dog, which is achieved through psychological conditioning, not through force or pain. A prong collar applied to a dog that exhibits this behavior has the potential to cause injury. Moreover, A "prong" collar does not address the root cause of the behavior.
@@alphaandomegadogtraining5480 err. Yeah closer look a choke chain? Regardless flat, martingale, or any collar shouldn’t the collar be up high so it’s not on the larynx? E-collar can be anywhere on the neck?
@@jerimiah_y Thank you for your comment.Yes, technically you are correct about the training ("choke") collar. The proper placement would be high on the neck closer to the base of the ears. Also, if you notice, at approximately 2:37 you can see the collar is actually on the dog backwards(incorrectly). As such, with this particular client/dog the focus is to educate the human. Chico(the dog) already knows the commands, as is evidenced when Jay takes the leash. No pressure is applied to the collar. Once the dog understands the commands the next step is to develop the behavior. So here, the human is where our attention is directed. We are addressing Behavior Development which is done through Handling Management, as Jay explained in the video. We could have put a velvet collar wrapped in cotton on Chico, it wouldn't have made a difference in the influence of the leash which is the basis of communication. E-collars: should be placed below the training collar and rotated frequently to different areas of the neck. Any stimulation given should be at the lowest possible level that produces effective results. They should never be used to punish.
It would help if you were mic'd up
Hey Ron, I agree. My apologies for the poor audio. I'm not a professional TH-camr, but I'll try to get better at this. Thanks for the comment!
Dogs such as these are the reason the Malinois has become so watered down. She is not worth the time or effort and definitely shouldn't be allowed to be bred.
Great video, however the "Service Dog" patch is a very bad idea and should be changed. Service dogs are not allowed to bark or show any sign of "aggression" per ADA law, and are only for people with disabilities. Service dogs are also allowed public access into places like walmart, while protection dogs are not. Very important to state the difference since it is illegal to impersonate a service dog.
Absolutely and I'll add Service dogs must be able to allow and welcome first responders into their handler's home to render aid.
good training but definitly pet dog not much drive so the best dog for familly 👍
For me this dog is not confident at all and her attacks are defensive. Most advanced IPO dogs have much more aggression and will to fight than this mal. There is no good biting, no structure, no confidence in protection. She isn't tough, she can't stand presure from decoy and it's visible.
IPO dogs suck in real situation, they are just attracted to decoys and they have no real sense of threat. The temperament of IPO dogs is not good for protection. Remember you face crazy guys, you need a crazy and sharp dog. IPO dogs are just aloof.
@@hishighnessessaeed7720 Actually in IPO dog SHOULD work properly on aggression, not only on prey drive. There is a lot more aggression in IPO than for ex. in Mondioring. In Mondioring dogs are more social and with calm head, because situations on protection work can be extremely difficult, and dog can't be nervous to win that. In IPO you have schematics and dog should work in it with maximum power and precision in all 3 trials. Also high IPO lines breeders produce quite a lot sharp dogs - some dogs from this lines are often police dogs. And I had real situation on the street, when my "aloof IPO dog" reacted very seriously toward "crazy stranger" so I think there is no need to tell me what dog I need. Toughest dogs are not the crazy ones. Dog with strong nerves will not overreact or see danger everywhere. This dog is just not confident enough to do good bite work.
Everytime I watch a video and the boys hear your voice they look around for you.
Great video Jay! Love to see it! Molly could definitely be Foxy Roxys cousin lol cattle dog pack!
Pas ima veeeliki strah u sebi !
Nice
I can't put my dog between my legs. He is 75 cm to shoulder, so clearly higher than my legs! 🤣 It would be like riding a small pony
👏👏👏👏💪
She doesn't enjoy Bite work...the decoy is putting too much pressure on her too soon...she's already on Defense Drive..not really interested by the sleeve.
I think the same. They should built her prey drive first for the sleeve and then see the potential of the dog.
100% correct! There is much more to training a protection dog than what this video depicts. In addition to building the dogs confidence, a good trainer will build the dogs drive and possession instinct. I will add that the dog may not be genetically equipped for protection work, the prey drive is subpar at best. I can only conclude that the trainer does not have experience. Owners should be careful or they will have a fear biter! Remember, not all Malinois are created equal!
Just because you don’t understand how to train a dog In defense doesn’t mean they are wrong. We are not the police.. your dog is not going to be fighting anyone in prey drive. Prey is for chasing… if you send your dog on someone in a defensive situation.. your dog is as good as euthanized. Nothing about defending your life is fun. Training should be as close to the real thing as possible. Most trainers today believe prey is your foundation. That’s BS.
@@shaniceervin1465 where did that come from? Evidently you do not have a clue as to what I do! Prey is the chase….I agree! However, fighting is entirely different. Look at my videos with muzzle work and passive find and bites. I also have muzzle fights with a passive hidden decoy without any equipment at all. I personally have 29 bites in the US and 11 in Iraq and Afghanistan……two different dogs. You do not need to explain to me about reality…..I have been there, lived it and survived. I use hidden sleeves, muzzle work and prosthetics in various scenarios including passive, active, hidden and exposed. I have also been involved in firefights with a dog at my side. Tell me about your experience watching TH-cam? Be that as it may, if it makes you warm and fuzzy to criticize something you do not understand, good for you! I was simply trying to encourage the person in the video to take it one step further. Unlike you, I was not being critical or condescending, I was just offering some feedback from someone who has been there. Honestly, I do not get your comment whatsoever! However I thank you for your Monday morning quarterbacking inside your secure house that my dog and I provided!
@@combatK9 Hey I really apreciate your answer and that you share your experience with us. I really think the same about commenting and give value to the discussion. I think that we never stop learning in dog training, specially in protection, "reading a dog" is almost an art these days. So again, thanks for sharing.

Some useful tips - but likely to over whelm the dog if done too fast. The owners seem so serious...dogs need fun too!
